The bass playing on this album is so insane to me. I can’t even comprehend how he does it.

Met Hayward and Bullen at Pitchfork (they did a fucking meet and greet!). Told them I flew from Oregon to Chicago just to see them then turned and said "I have to admit though, The Ghost Trade is my favorite thing you've ever done." His response was "Oh yeah, we drove ourselves up the fucking wall doing that one!" Love it.

stunning music and powerful ideas in a perfect fusion. Charles Haywrd is a superb musician who brings out the best in anyone he plays with, what guy, what a song this is.

    Lyrics :
Three weeks on and one week off
That is how my life is planned
Eat, work, sleep when you're on the night shift
    Wheels of industry turning around
Curtains drawn while the sun shines
Working hard all through the night - ah well
The night shift takes its time and takes its toll

Dissociative and disconnected, yet pacey and emotional. What a song...

I saw Camberwell Now live many times during 1984-85, often playing to only a handful of people. Hard to believe given the cult following they have today.

It's crazy how unknown This Heat and Camberwell Now were in their day. While I never got to see either group during their original tenures (I was born too late to catch either), I had the privilege of seeing This Is Not This Heat in Chicago during their very last tour before hanging it up for good, and the venue was thoroughly packed. They played almost everything from their short discography (It was supposedly the first time they had ever played "24 Track Loop" live) and even exchanged some political banter with us between a couple songs. It was such a great experience!

Everyone who saw them live became an almost instant fan and would spread their gospel…but it never really got picked up by the papers as we could say…ThisHeat was making the most raw and disjointed fragmented stuff while punk was just kicking off and then Camberwell Now was seen as too ‘soft’ while all the darker postpunk seemed to be dominant…rip Trefor Goronwy 🙏🏽✊🏽🙏🏽
