Il y a trois ans, je suis par hasard tombée sur ce clip. J'ai écouté l'album entièrement, je l'ai réecouté encore et encore. Nous étions en janvier 2020, et je sortais à peine de l'adolescence, je venais d'entrer dans cette période transitoire terrifiante de l'adolescence à l'âge adulte. Je tombais en dépression, et tout autour de moi, mes repères, semblaient s'écrouler petit à petit. A l'aube de le rupture avec mon premier amour, d'une crise sanitaire mondiale et d'un retour imposé dans la maison de mon enfance dans laquelle j'avais vécu difficilement ma puberté, c'était un retour en arrière sur les libertés que j'avais acquises à mon arrivée dans les études supérieures. J'étais enfermée, avec ce sentiment pesant de nostalgie qui planait toujours au dessus de moi. Je ne faisais que penser à l'avant et l'après, il n'y avait pas d'entre deux, le présent n'étais pas. Cet album m'a sauvée la vie, vraiment. Les paroles de chaque morceau bien que plutôt allusives semblaient toujours s'apposer justement à mes sentiments, au contexte dans lequel je me trouvais à ce moment là. Requin chagrin m'a rassurée quand ça n'allait pas, quand tout aurait pu me faire lâcher c'est un des éléments qui à contribué à me relever plus haut. J'écris ceci les larmes aux yeux, très émue, car je suis terriblement attachée à cet album et à ce groupe et je ne me lasserai jamais de Sémaphore.

C'est très touchant, je suis également émue à la lecture de ces mots puissants et tellement beau qui me ramènent à l'adolescente que j'ai été...

This video is the closest thing i ever saw from my teenage years.
I had this friend who was my Sémaphore. Our dynamic was pretty similar, i wanted to be physically close to him as much as possible, spent most nights of the week in his room. We used to fight a lot, playfully most of the time, but sometimes things would get intense and we would hurt each other for real.
Teenage years were really rough, lots of mental anguish over the shame and the desire. He's not in my life anymore, but i swear i didn't drown him.

I had to watch this four times to fully understand the story, and I think I got it
they’re friends, they can also be brothers. The long haired dude is jealous of the blonde guy, he seems passive but in some scenes you can see it in his face, while the blonde dude get girls, dance, and is happy, the long haired guy is kinda in the shadows. That’s for the beginning of the video, those are like flashbacks or their story, the actual story happening is when they’re at the sea. And they play but end up fighting. At the end of the video we see how as long haired guy is actually putting blonde guy under water (killing him) we see in the multiple images how he’s now winning, dancing, smiling. And the attention is all on him. But we also see the struggle and pain in his face after drowning the blonde, at the end of the video.
The religious imagery can be the perfect link to interpret this as some kind of cain and Abel dynamic

The french really know how to express love, better than any other language, but this video really is an experience. The music the lyrics the video all integrate in this indescribable feeling of having emotions for a person regardless of sexuality when circumstances weren't great although summer. People like these stay deeply in our hearts and only impulses like these songs bring them again on surface level. I've cried so many times listening to this. Love is so powerful

I agree but also nobody would say they're siblings if they were a boy and a girl. The way they look at each other is a little bit too intense. They're also not physical in the way brothers are. All that nervous touching and then pulling away. There's an underlying tension in their relationship. They could be lovers or just friends, but brothers? I don't think that's accurate.

Two guys with high love and more tension between them, for almost Screaming that each one feel some for the other, and people is so obssesed with making them like straight or brother or just friends. The most common thing done for hide different love.
At the same time, just defining them as 'gay' means that people don't want to accept brotherly or friendly love expression for itself, but have to call it 'gay' when two men have an intense or close relationship. Intense love isn't just romantic/sexual. It could also be brotherly, fraternal, friendship-based. I like the ambiguity of the nature of their relationship as portrayed in the video that leaves it open to interpretation. I love that they used an intense relationship between men - which is possibly as just brothers or friends and not romantic/sexual - as the focus of this video. Intense and meaningful relationships aren't always only sexual/romantic but can happen in different types of dynamics.
Requin Chagrin a bercé mon début d'année 2023, j'ai (re)découvert en décembre/janvier chacun des morceaux de ce groupe pour qui je voue maintenant une extrême reconnaissance, Sémaphore est un album, mais c'est aussi une chanson, la chanson d'une vie, la chanson qui a aidé et aidera des centaines d'êtres humains perdus, divaguant sans même savoir où aller. Requin Chagrin c'est de la poésie, alors merci. J'ai hâte de relire ce commentaire dans quelques mois/années lorsque tout ira mieux.

Nobody have paid attention to the reference of religious art? From the beggining is shown to us the culture in wich they are inmerse: the stained glass of the church, pictures of saint or religious figures. For me is about a gay relationship that is more difficult for the guy with dark hair, because he want to feel it real, not just like sexual tension between two friends. But is clear, for the way they look each other, that they want each other. Is the tension of not be able to be toguether in a free way. That's why the scene in the sea is so important, is like a struggle in love. And maybe he is not killing him in a literal way, but in a simbolic way.

My interpretation: They are both close friends with tension between them. The brown hair guy is attracted to the blonde. Blond is too, but he holds himself back more with those feelings. The video features religious art and churches. A religious background may interfere with their desires for each other, among other things. Like in social settings there’s always a girl, captivating the attention of the blond guy. It is very confusing, frustrating (we can see that in the fight scenes) for brown hair. So frustrating because he wants his friend’s attention and the desires they have for each other are not being acknowledged. Not understanding those emotions and how to deal with them are then expressed with aggression. Brown hair loves and deeply admires blond because of his confidence, playfulness and free spirit. The prevailing interpretation on here is that the long-haired boy drowns the blonde boy at the end--but I don't think that's necessarily right. The whole music video is nonlinear so there's no reason to assume the scene by the sea is the last scene in time. In the first moment of that scene, at the very start of the video, we see the blonde boy with a yellow shirt hanging from his swimsuit and the long-haired boy taking off a grey shirt. The two boys are wearing what seem to be the same exact clothes (yellow "royal nepal airlines" shirt and grey "nike" shirt) in the scene at the bar 1:27, where the blonde boy dances with a girl and the long-haired boy watches. There is another scene where the blonde boy wears the yellow shirt (at the ampitheater 1:11) and another scene where the long-haired boy wears the grey shirt (in the church 2:26 and at the lighthouse 3:32), but in neither are they wearing the two shirts at the same time. So the scene at the bar seems to be the only scene continuous with the scene by the sea. And since the scene at the bar appears to be at night, I suspect it comes right after the scene by the sea--thus the blonde boy survives the fight. (It's also possible we see the blonde boy survives at 0:47--we see him walking around shirtless with wet hair looking for, presumably, the long-haired boy). I love the thought that the film seems to end with a victory that turns out to be no real victory at all--regardless of whether the long-haired boy won this fight, he still hasn't won his friend. The defeat shows on his face as he washes up on the beach, and it shows on his face when he watches his friend dance with someone else hours later. He instigates yet another fight at 1:45 as soon as his friend invites him to join in dancing at the bar by the looks of it, too--another one of their endless fights in which victory is always defeat. As I see it then, the final climax of the film is just an ordinary moment of their friendship, the ordinary tragedy of unrequited love.
