Outstanding vid! great explanation of all the features. I just wired one of these up to an AIO board. Because SRXL2 is so new they had no instructions for it. I wired the signal wire to the RX instead of the TX. Thanks so much for your help!!!

@@Savage_Offroad Betaflight 4.3 recognized the receiver immediately. Only the setting to throttle to the left (mode 2) I still had to adjust. That was really super easy and works well. Only my transmitter has too few options to control the flight mode on channel 5 or 6. With both mixers I get only 4 possibilities. Yes, and telemetry just does not work with the old radio.
So I have one of these and it was working just fine but i rewired some stuff on the FC and now It will not bind to the DX6. What could have gone wrong? I'm at a compleat loss for ideas!

I have a quick question if you see this: I am trying to set up serial communication between the SPM4650 and an Arduino Nano 33 IoT board for a custom flight controller and I'm struggling to read in the serial data properly. I currently have the receiver's signal wire connected to the Arduino's Rx pin, but I noticed here you said to connect to Tx for BetaFlight since the communication is bi-directional. Would the same apply for the Arduino?
@6:00 you didnt set the serial rx uart and then you also didnt have channel movement. Editing mistake? Also, i cant get this working on betaflight 4.2.9, probably should not combine spektrum with fpv stuff?
I did all of this and i still have no response in beta flight. I have the battery plugged and receiver showing a solid light.im using a foxeer f722v2 and the spm4650.
for all who have problems with the error code "no rc link" but in the receiver tab there are all channels working like they should -INAV and the Spektrum SRXL2 receiver only works until SW 2.38 on the receiver (actuall in august 2024 there is 2.44 on the new ones) otherwise you get this error code and cant arm ...

I have installed the 4650 on 2 brand new quads and for some reason they both randomly failsafe for RX loss, even at a few yards of distance. A couple of time even while sitting at my desk, the motors started beeping to signal RX LOSS. Not sure what is wrong.
I have the iFlight Cinebee with the SuccexF4 v1.5 flt controller and SPM4650. iFlight says to connect the recvr signal wire to R2 on the controller but this video says to connect it to the T2 on the controller. Connected to R2 i get no stick movement. Which is correct?
Well I went form loving Spektrum to now hating them as I have bought 4 of these damn spm4650 boards and 2 quads (and a new FCs in each as I thought I must have just gotten bad ones out of the box?) and I cant get a single rx to work. All 4 rx boards bind with no problem but no matter what setting or tx pad or rx pad I use, I cannot get the rx to communicate with betaflight. This was me trying to get back into drones after loosing my rc collection to a fire and after weeks of scouring the forems for help I am very discouraged.
Is it a F3 or higher flight controller? If not you won’t be able to update to the latest version of beta flight that is needed. Otherwise, Here are things to check, signal from rx goes to a tx uart pad, (make sure the uart is not inverted) set that uart to serial in beta flight under ports menu, then in config menu set receiver type to serial and select srxl2 for protocol. If you want telemetry select that slider in same menu, then in receiver menu change mapping to TAER and you should be good to go. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone, I'm wondering how I would go about getting my spektrum receiver's telemetry (AR637TA with speed/altitude/rssi/vario/etc) over to some kind of simple OSD/VTX solution. My receiver has xbus and SRXL2, and I'm hoping something can tap into those and grab that data. I would rather not leave the spektrum ecosystem if I can help it, as I already bought their expensive remote & telemetry receivers. The data shows up on my NX6 transmitter, but for FPV purposes, I would like to get it on OSD. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I just bought a diatone Rome L3 HD PNP. I am a total newbe to the hobby. I cant just solder on the connector, plug it in, bind it, set up my flight modes and go fly? I dont understand flashing ? Help lol !

yes, SRXL2 is simply a new protocol for communication between the receiver and flight controller. It is completely unrelated to how the transmitter binds to the receiver, still using DSMX

Can you help? I downloaded your BF hex file, now I am missing UARTS in ports tab.Also the CLI commands in BF are not working, I get errors, "Values not allowed". when typing in your suggested CLI commands.
If you are getting "Values not allowed" you most likely have the wrong betaflight firmware, or have typos int he commands. Simply copy pasting should be good enough.

If you update your board to 4.1+ betaflight firmware it should support SRXL2. **A lot of this info is dated now. Betaflight 4.1 and the latest configurator support SRXL2, no CLI commands needed!**

Will the SPM4651T work with a DX7 older version? I can get radio commands to work but I cannot seem to get RSSI to work. I have followed the steps in your video and even tried a few variants but I always get the same result. 0 in the RSSI on the OSD. I should say that I'm using Betaflight 4.2, I've run your CLI commands from 4.1, and I have it on TX1.

More or less depends on your application. But for FPV with a OSD the 4650 is likely better for you because it is easier to setup and smaller. Hope that helps!
I have this connected up to a Tmotor F7 30x30 flight controller. I get motor RPM and betaflight textgen menu but not Vbatt. Do you have any idea why I wouldn't be getting Vbatt?

It is a hardware digital interface to send data across a wire. The flight controllers will usually have multiple UART Tx (transmit) and Rx (receive) ports. The Tx pin on these flight controllers is capable of both transmitting and receiving however, which SRXL2 requires, so that is why you must connect these new receivers to a Tx pin instead of an Rx pin.
I've downloaded 4.0.3 and flashed my F3. I've checked, checked and rechecked the wiring. I'm wired, the signal wire, to UART1. I've got the port tab set on UART1 Serial. On the configuration tab I'm set to spektrum sat and have selected SRXL... because there is NO SRXL2 or SRXLV2 to select. The receiver is binding to my radio. I'm binding it with the bind button on the receiver. Solid light on the receiver. I've checked my port settings, looked at the old manual, the new manual. I've looked at 3 videos. I've looked through the github pages. I've reflashed my F3. I've rebound the 4650. On and on and on. Why is this so difficult to get a simple receiver to work with my flight controller? ITS JUST A RECEIVER! Just impossible. I'm going to DJI. If that doesn't perform, I'm going to Frsky. But this nonsense is over.
I'm trying to get one to work right now too on an CLF4S running bf 4.1.1. This video doesn't show an actual selection being made on the ports tab even though there are two scenes of it. I know he mentions using port 1, but then there is a scene of the receiver tab with none of the signal bars moving - just like mine. Spektrum, please update this video :D
@@StatFPV Fine, but which tx pin? 2 has been suggested (been there, tried that, didn't work). Another person said try pin 6, but no idea where pin 6 is on the board. A location/hint would be great. All of my DSM/DSMX equipped drones work just fine with my DX6-but try to add a stand alone reciever? This is far more work than it should be for something so simple. As Jeff Mueller stated, "it's just a receiver!" This shouldn't be this damn hard. And Spektrum, it would be really nice if you guys would update your videos. Just sayin'.
@@fredmorton4291 I assume you can use any uart that isn't hardware inverted. That depends on your flight controller. Whichever rx pin you would usually use for any other sbus receiver, try the tx pin of that uart.
@@StatFPV 1. I don't know how to tell if a UART is, or is not hardware inverted. The FC I'm using is a iFlight SucceX-E 2-6S 20x20 Stack/Combo (F4 FC, 35A 4in1). Per their wiring instructions, the DSM data line from the receiver goes over to a pad marked "R2" which is where I started. Then I tried using "T2" per a suggestion from this video. That didn't work either. So, we're back to where we started. I am longing for the days when I built up quads using all DJI parts. I imagine a lot of folks rag on DJI, but their stuff always worked together, and worked well. No communication issues whatsoever. Oh well, I'll keep working on this thing. I know the problem is something simple and stupid, and I'll find it eventually! But it would be nice if Spektrum would get with the times and update their videos!
You will likely get the best performance out of the 4651T. That being said these are still 2.4ghz, so being "long range" is subjective when we are talking about 2.4. Thanks!

SpektrumRC both I tried TX and Rx and turning it on.. its connected to my remote but and followed the steps even changing later firmware. Inverted signal on tried it of also duplex on and off also.. will buy another one later i hope it will work
Doesn't work at all in betaflight 4.4.2, and works in 4.2 w omnibusf4 target.....watch your throttle values in the receiver tab, wouldn't let me arm and couldn't figure out why for a while.

Yeah, it doesn’t work It doesn’t communicate with beta flight The cli codes say error when you cut and paste. They are bogus I tried every rx and TX pad. Spent 9 hrs trying And I’m not new to this hobby And I’m not new to spektrum
I have been trying to get this to work on my tinyhawk freestyle for about a week now. Just saw this video which gave me hope but it was still no good. Im using 4.0.4, but cli commands keep giving me an error. Invalid name, invalid value.. etc. I can bind just fine but I have yet to see any rx movement in betaflight
Make sure if using this receiver you are connected to a tx pad on flight controller. Not sure if that’s your issue but it was my problem because I didn’t have easy access to a tx terminal on my quad.

Hi, new to the hobby and just letting you know this receiver is the reason I have gone out and bought a second hand Taranis Q9X plus and will leave spektrum products behind now and move on in the fpv hobby with much more compatible radio components that are available. To sum up this receiver the SPM4650 It’s expensive for what it is. The pads are very tiny and so close together making it difficult for most people to solder. The connector can be soldered but also quite difficult. The wiring it comes with is really garbage and not silicone wire. Seriously. WTF is this sh.t. Did you find it in an old telephone spektrum? Lastly it HAS to be wired to a tx port. Which means I can’t fly my shiny new plug and play quad I just got because the quad provides sbus or ppm to connect to and this expensive fussy little receiver wants only tx. Sorry Spektrum, I really gave you a go but you disappointed me too many times in such a short amount of time with your rigid software mentality. I’m going to the opposition now they seem more relaxed and user friendly. Just waiting for a couple of cheap frsky receivers to arrive in the mail so can finally get my new toy in the air and continue my enjoyment of this awesome hobby. Goodbye guys...

What if you set the CLI commands after 4.1? Are the settings unoptimized or are the settings 100% the same?
@@antdx316 It will work the same, just easier on 4.1. Just select SRXL2 as the protocol type and it sets everything for you.

The Receiver works with SRXL2 protokoll on a SpeedyBee FC. And the Receiver works with my old Spektum DX6i radio

Telemetry doesn't work properly. Can't get gps to work, only able to see satellites. And most of my Telemetry sensors are not names properly
Bind command doesn't work. Is there an updated command? Or does the bind sat command work? (i did not try that).

if you update these with the usb cable THE LATEST FIRMWARE can they display RSSI info on betaflight OSD?
It is not required BUT there are versions of betaflight that are buggy with this aspect. Best to run the latest stable releases. Hope that helps!

There have been updates to the 4651T that may help with this. You will need the USB update cable SPMA3065 and adapter SPMA3066

More or less depends on your application. But for FPV with a OSD the 4650 is likely better for you because it is easier to setup and smaller. Hope that helps!

I have this connected up to a Tmotor F7 30x30 flight controller. I get motor RPM and betaflight textgen menu but not Vbatt. Do you have any idea why I wouldn't be getting Vbatt?

Can some one share what is the meaning of Uart?? Have been doing search but not of them actually are RC Related..
It is a hardware digital interface to send data across a wire. The flight controllers will usually have multiple UART Tx (transmit) and Rx (receive) ports. The Tx pin on these flight controllers is capable of both transmitting and receiving however, which SRXL2 requires, so that is why you must connect these new receivers to a Tx pin instead of an Rx pin.

You will get some basics like flight pack voltage and current (depending on your setup) but you will not get Text gen
I've downloaded 4.0.3 and flashed my F3. I've checked, checked and rechecked the wiring. I'm wired, the signal wire, to UART1. I've got the port tab set on UART1 Serial. On the configuration tab I'm set to spektrum sat and have selected SRXL... because there is NO SRXL2 or SRXLV2 to select. The receiver is binding to my radio. I'm binding it with the bind button on the receiver. Solid light on the receiver. I've checked my port settings, looked at the old manual, the new manual. I've looked at 3 videos. I've looked through the github pages. I've reflashed my F3. I've rebound the 4650. On and on and on. Why is this so difficult to get a simple receiver to work with my flight controller? ITS JUST A RECEIVER! Just impossible. I'm going to DJI. If that doesn't perform, I'm going to Frsky. But this nonsense is over.
I'm trying to get one to work right now too on an CLF4S running bf 4.1.1. This video doesn't show an actual selection being made on the ports tab even though there are two scenes of it. I know he mentions using port 1, but then there is a scene of the receiver tab with none of the signal bars moving - just like mine.

@@StatFPV Fine, but which tx pin? 2 has been suggested (been there, tried that, didn't work). Another person said try pin 6, but no idea where pin 6 is on the board. A location/hint would be great. All of my DSM/DSMX equipped drones work just fine with my DX6-but try to add a stand alone reciever? This is far more work than it should be for something so simple. As Jeff Mueller stated, "it's just a receiver!" This shouldn't be this damn hard. And Spektrum, it would be really nice if you guys would update your videos. Just sayin'.
@@fredmorton4291 I assume you can use any uart that isn't hardware inverted. That depends on your flight controller. Whichever rx pin you would usually use for any other sbus receiver, try the tx pin of that uart.
@@StatFPV 1. I don't know how to tell if a UART is, or is not hardware inverted. The FC I'm using is a iFlight SucceX-E 2-6S 20x20 Stack/Combo (F4 FC, 35A 4in1). Per their wiring instructions, the DSM data line from the receiver goes over to a pad marked "R2" which is where I started. Then I tried using "T2" per a suggestion from this video. That didn't work either. So, we're back to where we started. I am longing for the days when I built up quads using all DJI parts. I imagine a lot of folks rag on DJI, but their stuff always worked together, and worked well. No communication issues whatsoever. Oh well, I'll keep working on this thing. I know the problem is something simple and stupid, and I'll find it eventually! But it would be nice if Spektrum would get with the times and update their videos!

You will likely get the best performance out of the 4651T. That being said these are still 2.4ghz, so being "long range" is subjective when we are talking about 2.4. Thanks!

Are you putting the signal on a TX Uart pad? Make sure you are and that you are not using a inverted signal pad

its connected to my remote but and followed the steps even changing later firmware. Inverted signal on tried it of also duplex on and off also.. will buy another one later i hope it will work

We have not seen them update date for SRXL2 Support. The code is available and is in Betaflight currently so hopefully they will work on it soon!

Doesn't work at all in betaflight 4.4.2, and works in 4.2 w omnibusf4 target.....watch your throttle values in the receiver tab, wouldn't let me arm and couldn't figure out why for a while.

You can, but for some builds, the receiver is buried in the quad and inaccessible. Bind command is useful then.
Please do not leave the props on, when you are working on the bench with a battery plugged in

I have been trying to get this to work on my tinyhawk freestyle for about a week now. Just saw this video which gave me hope but it was still no good. Im using 4.0.4, but cli commands keep giving me an error. Invalid name, invalid value.. etc. I can bind just fine but I have yet to see any rx movement in betaflight
Make sure if using this receiver you are connected to a tx pad on flight controller. Not sure if that’s your issue but it was my problem because I didn’t have easy access to a tx terminal on my quad.
@@dingo2756 Ive been in contact with spektrum. Apparently I'm doing everything right, just another miniquad part that simply doesnt work like it should for me. Down to 1/7 functional quads today :( Hopefully this whoop doesnt stop working on me too..

Hi, new to the hobby and just letting you know this receiver is the reason I have gone out and bought a second hand Taranis Q9X plus and will leave spektrum products behind now and move on in the fpv hobby with much more compatible radio components that are available.
To sum up this receiver the SPM4650
It’s expensive for what it is.
The pads are very tiny and so close together making it difficult for most people to solder.
The connector can be soldered but also quite difficult.
The wiring it comes with is really garbage and not silicone wire. Seriously. WTF is this sh.t. Did you find it in an old telephone spektrum?
Lastly it HAS to be wired to a tx port. Which means I can’t fly my shiny new plug and play quad I just got because the quad provides sbus or ppm to connect to and this expensive fussy little receiver wants only tx.
Sorry Spektrum, I really gave you a go but you disappointed me too many times in such a short amount of time with your rigid software mentality.
I’m going to the opposition now they seem more relaxed and user friendly. Just waiting for a couple of cheap frsky receivers to arrive in the mail so can finally get my new toy in the air and continue my enjoyment of this awesome hobby.
