- From the album Kerosene.
[Verse 1]
One last chance, one more try
One last work straight through the night
One more cry, one last fit
Do or die, and getting sick
[Chorus]
Uh-oh, you're gonna put yourself in the corner
Uh-oh, you've gone and done it wrong again
[Verse 2]
Listen close, make it quick
Overflow their heads with shit
Spit it out, make a scene
Wonder why they shit on me?
[Chorus]
Uh-oh, you're gonna put yourself in the corner
Uh-oh, you've gone and done it wrong again
[Refrain]
At the top is only one way down
There's one way down
There's one way down
At the top you've got a bigger mouth to feed
At the top there's only one way down
There's one way out
No doubt about it
At the top you've got a bigger head to feed
[Verse 3]
When in doubt, when in need
There's no time to disagree
With yourself when you scheme
All you are is kerosene
[Chorus]
Uh-oh, you're gonna put yourself in the corner
Uh-oh, you've gone and done it wrong again
[Refrain]
At the top is only one way down
There's one way down
There's one way down
At the top you've got a bigger mouth to feed
At the top is only one way down
There's one way out
No doubt about it
At the top you've got a bigger head to feed
To feed
Feed
Feed
[Outro]
If you want it
Go and get it
Reputation
Adulation
Expectation
Complications
The temptation
Isolation
Vinny overflows my head with shit every Sunday
I've seen comments about how 'the ending of the album version of Ozymandias should have been its own song', and honestly I feel that W A Y more about how this song plays itself out. I could loop the back half of this track for an hour and not get sick of it, honestly
this ^
I fully agree.
I love how Vinny usually blends his voice in with the music so the lyrics feel like they are one with the music. I also love how much all of his songs make me think, understanding and interpreting these songs is something that goes through my mind often, because the lyrics have a message so vague it could mean a variety of things, but maybe that’s just how it’s designed
that’s how most good music is tbh
This absolutely is how Vinny writes his music.
He admitted it in one of his Doom 2016 streams, around part 4 I think.
In my interpretation, this is about not just Vinny, but streaming as a whole. Right off the bat the song starts with "One last chance, one more try.
One last work straight through the night" which relates back to how Vinesauce is a nightly streaming channel, and how he's had to work a lot of jobs in his life, this is another try at a job. Then he says "Uh-oh, you're gonna put yourself in the corner
. Uh-oh, you've gone and done it wrong again" several times throughout the song, which is a possible nod to him feeling like he's backed his identity into a corner where he only feels like he can be noticed as a streamer. The next line in the chorus now makes even more sense, in his mind he messed this job up to. Then in the second verse Vin sings "Listen close, make it quick, Overflow their heads with shit, Spit it out, make a scene, Wonder why they shit on me?" In my opinion this is a huge reference to the countless memes the community has made. Listen to chat, make a joke, overflow their minds with memes, regurgitate it over and over and then Vinny feels like chat hates him for it and gets frustrated. In the next few lyrics Vinny says theres allways a bigger mouth to feed, a possible nod to how RUclips and Twitch operate as well as companies like Nintendo who have constantly tried to tae down his videos and streams. As for the outro it seems like vinny got swalloed up by his reputation, he feels he has to high of expectations to reach, complications in his life and then he feels alone at the end of it all. But, this is just my interpretation of it, please lemme know your thoughts.
First off, I really do like this theory and it’s cool to see other people’s interpretations! Another user, Hatch22, has the same idea and I responded to his comment in length. I think most of what I said applies to this comment here, so I’d recommend reading it.
If the length drives you away, tl;dr is that I believe the whole song better aligns with the idea of egos. Even the name ‘Hungry Ghost’ seems to be referring to an ego. For one, ghosts and egos are not something you can typically see, unless under certain circumstances. For instance, a ghost may reveal itself to you or someone’s ego may be showing through their actions. The other part of the title aligns with the notion that we _feed_ our egos!
Well now im depressed for vin
@@MegaPikachu5 I hope he knows lots of people love him for more reasons than just "funny meme man play game." if he ever quit streaming the best of us will support him, if he keeps going than I hope he stays strong and doesn't start seeing himself through his followers eyes. Depersonalization and lack of sleep is what I'm most worried about
That breakdown at 2:55 tho.
So fucking good
Hell yeah that guitar is so sexy sounding.
'all you are is kerosene' *chills*
I think maybe this song is about Vinnys streaming career. I know he's said that he enjoys streaming, but there's a lot of parts were the lyrics make sense in that context.
I think this song is more about the negative side to any form of success, particularly a starving and exaggerated ego, which anyone can relate to. Obviously I don’t know Vin personally, but from everything I’ve seen, he seems to be a humble guy and isn’t above interaction with his community, leading me to believe Hungry Ghost is not a form of personal expression. Again, it feels like this was written to convey an idea and feeling that anyone can understand and connect with.
However, I don’t totally rule out the idea that this is about streaming. Again, this is all my opinion and I’m not claiming to know for certain, but In The Garden seems to be Vinny’s struggle with his community, the very thing he created and grew. I would not be surprised if Vin himself continues to voice his stress with streaming through music and almost expect him to. But, I simply don’t see enough evidence for this to be another work of personal expression.
Sorry to write so much, I’m just so passionate about this band and their music and I’m so happy to see it also makes you think :))
@@isopodparty That makes a lot of sense, and fills in the lyrics I wasn't sure about. I guess the part that got me thinking about streaming was "Listen close, Make it quick. Overflow their heads with shit" It sounded like Vin was being hard on himself for meming too hard. I know it's silly, but most of the other lyrics made sense from there.
This is the first Red Vox song I've ever listened to. Interesting
If you are hooked, I'd also recommend "Hazy" off What COULD Go Wrong, and "Forgive and Forget" and "Settle for Less" off Another Light.
The way it goes from 5 to 100 at 2:54 reminds me of Tusk by Fleetwood Mac.
the last bit of the song always hits me hard
Best song on the album imo, tops.
That part at the end caught me off guard the first time lol, anyways good stuff Red Voxyot!
I have so many interpretations of this song but all of them seem wrong, I just want to understand what Red Vox meant with this
Me too I wish I could show what I can see when I hear the song but my shitty hands cant do it xD
I feel like Fry playing the holophonor
WOAH WOAH WOAH
HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN OUTSIDE OF THE LOOP FOR ME TO MISS AN ALBUM DROP
He didnt tell anyone. Classic Binny lol
He actually quietly dropped in on a Red Vox fanserver to announce it and then left
Absolutely in LOVE with this song.
Holy shit that ending
God damn it i cant belive how good this is
"At the top you've got a bigger mouth to feed."
Vinny's Reputation
Man this is really good I'll even put this on the list of albums I've loved so far.
1:10 is my favorite part man, so good
quite the banger
The ending part is pretty nice.
I keep expecting "Spit it out. Make scene. Wonder why it's kerosene."
Reminds me a lot of Cellophane from I'm In Your Mind Fuzz
What's the instrument at 3:02 that sounds kind of like tires? I love how it sounds
Pretty sure it's just a synthesizer. One of the comments states it's a Rhodes piano.
this one has to be my favorite of the album
i enjoy very much
Uh-oh I gone and done it wrong again :(
quality
I got some nice pink floyd vibes off this one
am i hallucinating or does the outro sound a _tiny bit_ like wah wah by king gizz
I didn't hear the wah wah but listening from about 4:16 kind of sounds like road train
I got a Holy Diver feel from the first couple chords.
Sounds more like Cellophane
I am the 666th like
