Robert Quine is a hero to all of us law school-educated guitarists. I was happier when you were alive, sharing your low-key mastery with all of us. You proved that even bald tax attorneys can rock, if they try hard enough and have a vision.
Seen this Tour back in the Day. Robert Quine is amazing Guitarist who was good for Lou. Wish Lou stuck with him longer. Fernando on Bass . Great performance. The Blue Mask still remains one of LOU REED'S BEST. Like a Velvet Record.
Bob Quine was a guitar genius. If you check this out he plays like a jazz musician...listening...he always did. He knew when to play licks, when to play noise, when to imporovise. Losing him was a big loss to music.
Such a shame that Lou couldn't handle Quine stealing the spotlight. How much better would New York have been if he was on it? It's already the best post=VU album of Lou's career, but Quine would have sent it to a whole 'nother level.
Is it? I've always loved the Blue Mask for the simple reason that Quine is on it and it makes it so damn powerful. New York is some of the best songwriting, for sure, and probably the most consistent of Lou's albums, but Blue Mask has the raw emotion that Quine provided through his playing.
This is what a live performance is all about !! The band is totally kicking it in gear and feeling the frenzy of the audience, so much positive energy & vibes all around they're all feeding off of it. I love Sister Ray, this version is killer, & so many happy people. Fantastic !!!
Man, if Joe Piscopo happens to be friends with a dissolute actuary, they've got their Halloween costumes set for LIFE. P.S. Quine is the best. I wish someone would put together a best-of that spanned all his work-a few cuts from The Blue Mask, "Girlfriend", that They Might Be Giants song where he rips it up, the Stiff Records version of "Blank Generation", etc. Unlike most comps, that one would actually have a reason for being.
To mefugoenmicarro: I suppose you're the real hero here, giving anonymous commentary to a RUclips-video, as opposed to those "losers" in the clip enjoying a legendary concert?
Whoops, fingers got ahead of the old brain -- I was referring to the question about a comp of Quine's best soloing moments. And yeah, I'm 99% sure this is the companion "Live In Italy" video -- these performances were filmed.
I recall Michael Carlucci (Subterranean Records, NY) expressing an interest in that idea on the Robert Quine tribute site, once his estate was settled...but I don't know what's come of it.
what is the 42 minute version on? i have the quine tapes with the three 24, 38, and 29 minute long versions, but 42 is the longest one i've heard of, where can i find it?

September 2022: who's still in awe at this gig in Verona? I miss Lou and Robert Quine.

Reed treated everyone he worked with like garbage
Mindblowingly incrediable

Holy shit! This is awesome!
Can some one liquify this and put it in my veins?
well - it might be an acquired taste, but lou sure found himself a spot. i still like to hear the 'street hassle' album on long road trips...
I really miss Morrison's lazy/kinky G mixolydian solos. And Maureen, Maureen too.

Totally far out.
loserrrrrr at 4:29
No, a guy experiencing the joy of music...he's no loser.
Lou was always the weakest member of any of his bands.
So? He wrote Sweet Jane and Street Hassle. That counts for a lot when he didn't have the chops like these other guys
end of the eighties
