Perhaps somebody actually collects vintage fake Rolexes. This old specimen is interesting in the sense that it is boasting an actual mechanical watch movement, even an automatic. At those times it wasn't an economically viable option to put some actual Chronograph movement in a watch intended to imitate a famous Chronograph model, but a cheap Chinese needle calendar/24h movement was installed instead. I think nowadays a Quartz Chronometer movement is used in comparable cheap knock-offs. One step higher e.g. a Seiko Mecaquartz Chronograph movement will even provide sweeping seconds. The price for the faker still staying well under $50 for the whole watch. On the other hand the victim of a scam will get a fake Chronograph which actually has a Chronograph. 😊
That’s gonna take some serious $$$ to get nice again.
