Its funny to me that people cant fathom enjoying a Bethesda game without it having to be the “greatest Bethesda game of all time”. Alot of people rip on Elder Scrolls online but I throughly enjoy that game as well.

yeah, people rip on ESO yet according to a report about a month or two ago (I can't find the podcast that reported this) ESO brings in an average of $15 million per month for Bethesda. Go figure.
Skyrim launched with backward flying dragons, bouncing carts, and floating objects. Glitches from hell and it still won Game of The Year. And it's still widely played today!
Starfield has been my favorite game so far since its release. I've logged over 800 hours in it, and I haven't even bought the DLC yet. I dont think I'll need it for another 3 or 4 years because I'm STILL finding new locations, new characters, and new stories hidden all over the place! Sure it have flaws, and glitches. What game doesn't at launch these days? It's far from a broken game that wouldn't allow you to complete the main story. And they're constantly patching out the wrinkles as they did with everybody's favorite Skyrim.
I honestly think the backlash is because of its exclusivity. But why not those naysayers just play it on PC?
If I wanted to gripe on the game, I'd say I wish we could play the cards, gameboards, darts, etc that we find as minigames. Places like Neon should have a casino, and underground gambling should be everywhere. Just go full on Shenmue with how you interact into minigames with things from your surroundings.
And secondly, that flashlight needs help when exploring in caves. With all the technology in this game you'd think they would develop a more powerful flashlight to navigate the caves.
And lastly, I wish you can travel with more than only one of your companions, and I wish you can communicate and make requests to your companions that are in your ship while you're far off exploring the planet.
      Otherwise, the game is AMAZING.

    • @tjroelsma
      @tjroelsma Месяц назад

@@MoreTjeff148 Many people don't really hate on Starfield, but they just point at the obvious: it doesn't have enough content to fill the world it creates. The second point is that the Creation Engine is bouncing off its limits over and over again (loading screen after loading screen, the bubble creation system that generates all these stutters and makes that there's no "seamless" transition between flying and landing), which is pretty annoying.
All that pulls the game down somewhat, although personally I still enjoy playing it.

Starfield is an amazing game and it is my game of choice when I get some downtime to actually play something. I have been playing since Day ONE. No game is perfect, and neither is Starfield, but it DOES manage to hit all the things I enjoy in games. If I want a to follow a quest line I can, if I feel like just taking out some spacer scum for a little while , I can do that. @@pilovwithketchup there are some pretty cynical money making attempts in video gaming nowadays. Paid content. Skins etc.
It's the world we live in. If you want to know what's happening to gaming now look at what happened to popular music from the 50's onwards.
People who don't care about integrity or art, but instead about sales & money, have a huge influence.
      2 things:
      1) don't blame the devs, don't let it colour your perception of the studio or the game. The attempts to monetise games beyond the initial price of the game is not Todd Howard's or his staff's fault.
In fact they're the ones working hard to deliver something meaningful & decent within the workings of that corporate machine.
      2) don't play the victim, it doesn't change a thing.
They offered both you & I something at a daft price, neither of us bought it, only one of us found something in that to complain about.

Most important, and I believe most difficult will be to update the main cities outskirts. They simply did not create enough art and a world to make New Atlantis too different from Akila, Cydonia etc. They only have a small list of assets to work with and no backup concept art to draw inspiration from.
So artists are limited until they approve some official concept art. That is where we step in, we can suggest it in their official channels at least, or make some and and share it in hopes it inspires them.

While it has it's flaws (and many detractors who have this sociopathic need to comment on any positive Starfield video) I have really enjoyed my time with this game.
They had the theme in mind of trying to make this semi-realistic with the NASA-punk aesthetic and loads of planets that are empty - as the current Galaxy is.
Lush planets that may have more life and barren ones with hostile atmospheres that may only have a base or two.
I have teared up a few times when standing on a new world and looking up at the skybox to see a sunrise/ sunset/ blazing stars in an inky sky.
I've also spent way too many hours pirating Varuun ships in the Serpentis system so that I can sell them and use the cash to build my dream fleet.
Yes - absolutely more POI variety, more meaningful side quests from NPC's, maybe more variety in the temples and the other things you mentioned - but it is far from a bad game and it is fine if I like it and others don't.
I'm also starting to dabble in mods and it can open up new facets to this game.

What I'd like to see from Starfield going forward hopefully is a good economic system that can give more meaning to outpost builds. Maybe you get an exclusive contract from Damois to supply Helium 3 to them or from Taiyo to supply certain metal alloys from one of your outposts or simply add in small businesses you could partner with to sell your goods. At the same time they could fund your operations with new supplies and resources? What if rival companies hire mercenaries like the Ecliptic Mercs to sabotage your operations or The Crimson Fleet begin to attack your cargo ships in space? An Economic Pack could open up new possibilities within the gameand would be a welcoming addition to outpost builds.

Personally space games are some of my favorites to play. I have played most of them , from Stellaris to Star Citizen. Unfortunately Starfield just did not cut it for me. I love Elder Scrolls, and like Fallout, but to me Starfield was like the Bethesda formula, with none of the heart. It just felt empty and hollow to me. The companions were just absolutely uninteresting and annoying to be around. Inventory management was a nightmare, and trying to sell things off or buy ammo was a headache inducing nightmare. Sitting and waiting for them to restock over and over to get an adequate amount of resources was not fun. Obviously the body 1 and 2 were also just another annoying frustration for me personally. I do not hate people for enjoying this game but I do not personally like it at all. Gave you a thumbs up because having a different opinion from mine is not a reason to give a thumbs down.

30% of the game is great, the faction stories, the main quest and even the story elements they did to introduce a new game plus, even gameplay feels relatively good, so ill say 40%
The other 60% though, poorly implemented dynamic generation of the galaxy creating too many look alike POI's,
a Space adventure that somehow manages to remove all the possible joy of an actual space fantasy by creating little encapsulated landing zones that are explorable, not allowing us to fly in low orbit and too many planets with little to no reward for exploring.
An over reliance on Radiant or Dymamic quests, this was inteoduced in Skyrim for the dark brotherhood, thieves guild and tavern keepers, it worked slightly better in skyrim with the variety but still lacked the personal touch and creativity of random missions youd stumble upon in Oblivion or Fallout 3/New Vegas.
I've put roughly 80 hours into starfield, its a good game, worth a playthrough, just dont expect it to keep your interest like Skyrim, it will quickly burn out after the main quest and few faction quests.

    >"Starfield" lets you do what you want, how you want, and that’s where its magic lies
Ok but what if I want to experience a well written questline? What if I want gunplay thats better than fallout 4? What if I want to shoot an npc in the face to solve a quest (Paradiso specifically)? What if I want to travel from planet to planet without experiencing a loading screen every few seconds? What if I wanted an actual reason to do pirate shit and steal ships? What if I wanted to explore dungeons that had actual intent behind their placement on a world?
You cant just say something lets you do what you want, when it wont actually let you do the shit you want

      1. Subjective
      2. Arguable
      3. Illegal
      4. Technically doable if you hold forward for a couple days
      5. Money?
      6. Literal complaint I had
I believe you are right in a way about this, but I must emphasize that this is not an objective review. Many people will disagree with this perspective, and that is perfectly fine. It’s essential to recognize that individuals perceive things differently, and this variance in perception arises from the complexity of the human brain. Each person is equipped with their unique experiences, preferences, and biases, which shape their opinions and beliefs. There should never be any form of blind following when it comes to subjective matters like video games, art, or literature. Every opinion that one holds should be rooted in personal belief and reflection, even if that belief is shaped by external influences. It’s crucial for individuals to engage with their thoughts and feelings critically.
So, let’s entertain a few hypothetical scenarios. What if I claimed that Fallout 4 was a bad game? What if I argued that the gunplay mechanics in Fallout 4 weren’t superior to those found in Starfield? Perhaps I could suggest that the quest lines in Fallout 4 are less engaging, or that having a voiced main character in a Bethesda game feels out of place. Moreover, what if I stated that many of Skyrim’s quests are as shallow as those in Starfield? Now, I’m not asserting that these are my actual feelings, but these hypothetical opinions do exist. It would be strange to alter one’s opinions simply based on what is deemed "popular" or widely accepted unless there is a moral imperative to do so.
After all, this is a video game we’re discussing here, a medium that is meant to be enjoyed and critiqued from various angles. I understand your perspective, and I see the point you are trying to make. I can agree with you on some aspects, but ultimately, those opinions are yours, just as mine are mine. Our individual viewpoints can coexist in this vast landscape of gaming discourse.
