    it is always encouraging when something you put together works better than expected. you might try putting wheels and tires, like the lifted mower you did a few years ago, on this to give it more ground clearance. looks like a lot of fun.

    For the kill switch if you want it on steering wheel I would weld a washer on the steering shaft right below the steering wheel then attach some kind of springy contact from the steer wheel to the washer. Then it would always make contact no matter what position the steering wheel is in. And do the same at the bottom of the steering shaft and just use the shaft itself as the conductor from the kill switch to the wire ran to the engine. Hit me up if you like the idea. I'm not sure if the settings are right on here for me to receive a reply. But awesome build so far I really like it.

  • @jeffreyplum5259
    @jeffreyplum5259 9 лет назад +1

    It may not work well in really wet or muddy conditions, but it does have lots of possibilities out of the muck. It may well have more top end than the rigid suspension and its current tires can handle. I don't know if you could gear it down further. Larger tires would help ground clearance and ride, but bring on more gearing and frame clearance issues. A front bumper or frame might help steering. It seems like the old VW dune buggies, with it heavy rear and enough power to go anywhere the tires can float it. A step in floor pan rather than the purely flat golf-cart floor may be a good option. Just a bunch of ideas for what is clearly a killer field and trail rig.

    I like how you repurposed an old golf cart frame, and I enjoyed your clip. I have a suggestion. You could make a bottom shield with a integrated air scoop for the rear Axel so that mud will not coat the engine and Axel assembly.

    Crazy cool! I knew it was going to be faster than you expected. I have the same setup for drive train i the rear of my gokart, same engine too. Same tires, and breaks. Lots if fun. I think mounting a battery up to a winch is not at terrible idea considering no reverse.

  • @bobordewald1367
    @bobordewald1367 9 лет назад

    Hi, Nice start. You really need more suspension. More travel in the front and some travel in the rear would really help. As you mentioned reverse and one other thing is your should cute some groves in the rear tires. This will allow them to hook better than they are now. Because of the inner tube you will need to run more air pressure or possibly rip the valve stem out.
    I like the side by side and the drive set up as well!

    Looking good! Comet has a reverse box for their clutch setup but kind of spendy. Not sure if you could find a used one. I would want reverse at my age. A full underbody skid plate would be good but use a UHMW plastic one like soybean heads on combines use. You will slide over everything and not stick to it.

    Suggest a plug in 'kill/start/stop' like a jet ski, in the left hand arm rest by your hip, so if you come off or need to its right by you and will cut the engine if you bail? One of them clippy caribina things, but of rope, and a guitar jack plug/socket, Wire the guitar jack short circuit, so it completes the curcuit when plugged in.......

    First, let me say excellent job. After watching and rewatching, I'm more than likely going to install a kart trans between the comet and rear (oh if only it was a 4 stroke rear end...) on my 89 Marathon.
    So to that end, I think what I am going to do is follow your method and tube out the back and mount the powertrain in the rear, leaving the underseat area for storage. Given the cradle orientation for the 2 stroke, I think it would be too tight the other way.
    I'm going to stretch it as well, so the weight should be offset in the end (which brings up the brake cable issue). I'm just going to be hauling the family around concrete and blacktop, so clearance and crawling suspension won't be a real issue (I hope). I started poking around in there a few days ago, and am going to document the process, though I doubt as well as you did. Thanks for the inspiration. BTW, how is it hilding up?

    Not bad, you should definitely put a removable throttle stopper on there as a governor, for when your kids are driving it looks like it could get out of hand very easily.
    Will you be able to trail register that, similar to how the diesel is registered.
    In your opinion what's stronger and easier to work with bicycle brake cables for your throttle and breaks or lawn more brake cables for both??

    • @Fearlessfront

    Fearless, you did an amazing job. In its present build, it is an excellent Kart for relatively smooth trails. If you want to use it for the rough stuff and mud, you must double at least the ground clearance, otherwise, you will be hanging up. If you get hung up in mud, it will be a bitch to get it out. One way to do this would be to mount an axle under the present rear axle and connect each side with sprockets and chains from the original axle to the new one. I have no clear idea for the front end. Once again, GREAT JOB!!!. You are a mechanical engineer at heart.

  • @galaxie500xl7
    @galaxie500xl7 9 лет назад

    The only thing that I see that I would do, I would stiffen the frame by adding some metal and welding it in. As long as it is, If you bounce it around too much or too hard, it seems to me like it might warp in the center. That's just mild steel tubing. It will not take much of a beating.
