Beautiful work Kate!! Absolutely love the rhyalite off-setting that gorgeous opal! I can’t wait to see the finished pendant! I’m learning a lot watching this process, Thanks!😄👍👍👍
Beautiful opal!! You did an awesome job!! Big pieces of opal are definitely a challenge. Cantera style opal is what I think of when I see it cut with the matrix. Another idea when you have multiple color bars is looking for a possible cross cut opal like many mintabie opals are cut. Great video!!👍👍😁
That turned out so beautiful! I bought that lightning ridge stuff from your etsy store and i am hoping to find a little color in it. Even the white opal is beautiful though, but it does look really fractured. Opal fever is contagious!
I would be surprised if you don't find any color. The stuff IS pretty fractured - stabilizing it is probably a good idea - but that's why it's low-grade opal, I guess. :D
Have you tried using a doping stick? It is the only way to do the tiny ones and even the big thin ones if you use a really big doping stick (it does not have to be round) it helps to hold it and reinforces the stone when you are cutting it so you do not break it.
Cut beautiful crystal stones. you are great friend.

A strip of color = a “color bar” 😊

Opal a gem of chance?
