If you break down the harmonies where Lennon starts the melody then McCartney picks up the melody and Lennon slips "so discreetly" to a lower register harmony, it drove me crazy for years as to who was singing what at what time in the song. It's easy to play a recording an say "Oh I like it". Please study this song and appreciate it for what it is.

In my musical journey, I found things got more interesting with the "Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which was honestly more about the introduction of new recording technology, showcased by orchestral rock and roll. 🌹☮️

And where they evolved from this kind of pop music to more sophisticated. I am one who loves the early stuff equally to the later stuff because I LIVED IT, where others have not, not coming from the era. the Beatles ruled the 1960's along with Motown Music and a few others. the Beatles STARTED the long hair thing, the stadium concerts etc.
Short songs at this time in history was normal. Radio stations set a 3 minute limit on the length of songs they would play on the radio. So The Beatles, like everyone else, had to make songs 3 minutes or less to get their songs played on the radio. BUT The Beatles eventually broke down that wall when the released their hit "Hey Jude." It was so popular from people buying the record and listening to it at home, that when demand to hear it on the radio sky-rocketed, radio stations relented and played "Hey Jude" in its entirety. Once again, The Beatles broke the mold and set another music trend that changed music and radio from that time forward.

If you don't pay close attention to the words, you just think it is about someone who is wanting to give love another try after having been hurt in a prior relationship. But when he says "So I hope to see that I would love to love you, and that she will cry when she learns we are two", you realize that in addition to not getting hurt in this new relationship, it is equally important that his ex-love hurts when she sees him with his new love.
