Wow, I dropped a 79 Pontiac 400 from a grand safari wagon in a 1965 lemans. My buddy and I used a huge tree branch. Ran like the devil in that Lemans til l blew it. Dang, l remember that crank sound like it was yesterday had a 4 barrel too. Miss that car. Enjoyed this video! TKS!
Ty , i got in an arguement with someone who claimed they were the best. I put a brand new one on my truck once, something wasnt right after driving it, would knock a tad at start up. So i slapped a new wix on it and it never did it again. Im lead to believe it went straight to bypass instead of filtering. Never used fram again.
Here's what I would have done pull the plugs squirt oil in the cylinders and spin it till it makes oil pressure then try to start it . And when I went to start it I would have primed the carb and gravity fed the carb it will work fine to run like that it sounds good tho for real
Pretty sweet deal $175 for a 180hp/325ft lb classic v8! You could clean/freshen it up a bit and put this in a clean classic, and run this as a daily. As long as its tuned, with regular oil changes....probably get another 200,000 miles just loafing around.
@@patrickcannell2258 The sbc V8 for it's time in the 70s-80s was fairly reliable compared to other cars. 180hp wasn't a lot, but most cars/light trucks had less than that. 80,000-100,000 miles was common in those days. These days, 300hp and 200,000+ miles are what you get from average cars.
Done this several times with pontiac motors. Have one out of '72 carolina right now. Put it in a 81 firebird. The only problem with a pontiac motor they are way heavy. Keep the 6x heads.
Small block Pontiac and big block is not exeistemt they are all the same block and I always got them Pontiac motors whenever they came in to the two boneyards by my house and stuck them I'n eveerthing lol and 350 rockets too ran them in all kinda shit cuz they are direct replacents for the deisel engines of. The 80s
You guys look like my mom and the church lady trying to do a tune-up pitiful bro pitiful but it just goes to show even a broken clock is right twice a day
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. So sad to see this car It’s probably going to be crushed anytime soon I’ll because somebody crashed into a pole and instead of selling it On somebody else they sold it to a junkyard that wants way more for the car then it’s is probably ever going to be worth buying. But I do get it that salvage yard needs to look at the parts value in order to make money so I can understand on there and why they need to do it this way but it is a shame I would love to find a car like this in the junkyard that you could get real cheap and doing a little work to it and fix it up and have a good driving Car because it’s newer that you are not afraid to bring on long distances because of how muc newer it is
@@Silverado-nw2lj most salvage yards want more money for older cars then there worth because of what they sell regular parts for and the vehicle I saw in this video was a prime example you can only sink so much into a project and it starts with the value. And getting it for decent price

Of course the oil filter is clogged. It was a Fram oil filter which are complete garbage.

6:53 SHE'S ALIVEEEEEEE!!!!!! 💪
Sorry that's not a T400, it's a T350.
That starter sounds dead

the timing on the 78 Pontiac 400 shoud be set at 12 degrees before top dead center
sounds good!
Nice score 😁👍
Another great one !! Nicely done
Why did the guy in the shorts keep jumping back every time you tried to start it? Like it was going to blow up or something.
engine sounds pretty good needs a set of headers on it LOL
400 engine in a 1978 or a 301?

Geeeeez put some fuel down the carb and if the fuel pump is bad than gravity feed the carb and put a dam stronger battery in..
IKR!!
Nice! what transmission is that the t350?
What junk yard did you get it from
No need for such strong language… Spooled it for me…
I wince as you crank that dry motor with plugs still in...timing so low the starter is hot....😞
So what are your goals for this engine?

Well doggone it !! No Oil ?! Sick!!!

Yeah... check oil level... check for spark... put gas in carb... start instantly...
Too long of a hose on that gage. Air compresses takes a while to fill up with oil
