- Who is Mason Miller, and how did he get to this point?
Mason Miller entered the scene in 2023 with the Athletics debuting his elite velocity as a starting pitcher, however after a set back and a move to the bullpen, he has taken things up a notch and is currently the most dominant pitcher in the sport.

If someone put a gun to my head and said, “choose 1 pitcher for 1 inning for your life” I would choose 2024 Mason Miller
Is it recency bias though? 2016 Zach Britton had an 803 ERA+ in 67 innings. That’s incredible for that big of a sample size. Mason Miller is sitting at a 301 ERA+.
@@tooombay11a big reason is that first appearance of the season. Imma have to chalk it up to nerves or the last tune up coming out of spring cause I can’t even fathom guys hitting him right now
I feel ya, but I could never go against Mariano
That is a very bold statement, and you’re right. Juan Soto agrees too. Look at those ABs
mariners should have traded kelenic for mason straight up
Jerry probably is looking for a way to get this kid I bet lmao
@@condlewis I bet he is, but I bet all 29 other teams GM are doing the same
@@ImSleepy509 you're 100% right lmao
imagine him and paul skenes through a whole game
That 4seamer RIPS. My god. Not fair.
Reminds me of Edwin Diaz
Robert Suarez is pretty nuts too
I am a Cubs fan and I watched Mason Miller do well against the Cubs in 2023 until he gave up like 5 ER and they took him out. Glad he is doing better but the guy wont last long trying to throw on average a 100 MPH Four Seam Fastball. He will throw out his arm and get tommy john in maybe a year if he continues to throw this hard even as a closer. The human arm just cannot take the kind of abuse that Mason Miller is doing in order to get the pitching stats he has accumulated.
I get what you’re saying but the guy has an incredibly simple delivery. The velocity comes easy to him. Hes not pumping it extra for “stats” the guy is just a stud. Hopefully TJ doesn’t have to happen
@@justinkeizer2386you are right he has very good mechanics and really uses his body more efficiently than other pitchers who have thrown as hard
Dude can potentially be a righty aroldis Chapman, but maybe better because of his movement and command on his slider
Miller is a ridiculous pitcher. I know if I faced him I'd be knee deep in shit after one pitch.
Clay Holmes : Am I a joke to you??!
Let’s not forget it is the first month of the season
This guy kinda sounds like Foolish Bailey.
450 dead center
DARK MAGICIAN
What is era
Earned Run Average. The average amount of earned runs given up by the pitcher each 9 innings
@@TheCouchGM ok thanks! its the most important metric for a pitcher?
at what age do they start tracking it?
and what exactly is an "earned run"? I'm guessing it means the runner was hit in instead of walked in?
@@nofurtherwest3474 its the oldest metric for a pitcher, its tracked every inning a pitcher plays, and an earned run is basically a run scored that isnt a fielding error
I’d say WHIP (Walks+Hits / Innings Pitched) and K/9, BB/9 are the most important stats for pitchers.. ERA doesn’t always tell the full story, just like wins isn’t the best stat as it’s out of the pitchers control whether the team actually wins the game. There’s also FIP from Fangraphs, which is a good metric for pitchers
@@HawkFX But I don't understand why they times it by 9. It should just be runs divided by innings pitched. So if you gave up 3 runs in 6 innings then it's 0.5.
This would be a fair comparison no matter how many innings a pitcher pitched.
What is the point of multiplying .5 by 9 innings to get 4.5?
Dude has a negative fip right now lmfao
Mariners need more lefty’s.
Someone should tell this guy Tarik Skubal exists
Skubal is great, lot of great SP right now. Mason Miller currently has a 0.10 FIP and 18.2 K/9
@@TheCouchGM 5-0 with a sub 1 ERA
Also Mason is a RP
The guys delivery/mechanics scare me for his long term future :/
SEZ U 😂
I think his mechanics are pretty good compared to other pitchers who have thrown as hard. He really engages his lower half well and does a good job with f using his body efficiently. The way he gets behind and follows through during his pitching motion isn’t like other pitchers who throw 100-103 mph. He’s not just slinging it
He will be gone next year. That's what the A's do. They are a minor league club for the MLB.
