John’s voice and wit always gave me the warmth and sense of ‘coming home’ to your loved ones; then he’d play Nag nag nag by Cabaret Voltaire - ace! With John’s absence, this land has become a rather wearisome place
This guy liked all types of music. Pop, punk, techno, grind, folk, reggae, prog-rock, classical, jazz, thrash, you name it, he enjoyed listening to it.
I used to listen to and record on cassette most evenings listening to John Peel in the late 70s and early 80s. such magic unforgettable times. John you are deeply missed. You defined my adolescence...
@@richardp1156 Ever thought about digitising them and putting them up? Do you remember his ' Euro' nights (long before we had the EU) I've tracked down very little of the brilliant, bizarre stuff he used to play.
I will always feel so sad of him leaving this panet so damn soon as I wasn't able to listen to him in his heydey because I'm from Basque Country, Spain and of course it wasn't impossible for me to listen to him live...but since I was 14/15 years old and I listened to Hatful Of Hollow from The Smiths (full of Peel Sessions recorded by the band) I've been enamoured with the sound of those sessions, his voice, with the bands he discovered to the world, and with everything he did as a broadcaster and as a person. To the extent of having myself a program in a free radio since 2004 (the year of his death) and I try to live by his code and celebrate his love for music every single day osf my existence Long Live John Peel, Inimitable and eternal
The care taken in putting together a programme shows what we are missing on radio today. Nowadays they just push a button and the computer runs the show. Wherever you turn the dial you're tuned to radio bland.
@clivedxb Someone has produced an album called Needle in a Haystack, which features John Peel's commentary. You can simply type John Peel Needle in a Haystack in Google and you'll find it.
Sounds like you had a blast, son. Were you in my country, (scotland), you'd have been a rock star. Dont beat yerself up, man. Gutted she died, and gutted you guys couldnt make it work. Stay safe in yourself, friend xxx
Thanks so much for caring! Having problems with that site so will test again when not on an Android device... Hope they work! I have 2 or 3 full shows on my desktop if it helps anyone..
I've been trying desperately to find them but all Perfumed Garden links are down. I'm very keen to have as many stored as possible! Any help appreciated.
John Peel gave the BBC ,so-called, "Street Cred" ! They've used this to give the youth of the World,et al, the impression that the BBC are believable/ honest/etc.......!
A hint of what the BBC thought of Peel: after he died, they never tried to replace him with someone similar. He just didn't fit in with what they wanted.
CONTINUED - So he had affairs with fans, but this fan who claimed she had a baby, was in fact 15. He didn't know, he didn't ask questions and he was careless, because she produced a baby. At the end of it, he didn't rape or abuse young girls like Jimmy Savile. Plus John Peel moved on with his life, got married to Sheila and had 2 sons and 2 daughters, plus 1 grandson, while he was alive.
Hi .I've been trying to find a way of sending you a reply to your comments on my videos but this is the only way I can find. You don't appear to be on Facebook, but if you are please visit my 'No Airs' page there and msg me as that's an easy way of keeping in touch. Cheers Owen
john peel's shows were like boxes of chocololates... youd never know what youd get. but good stuff most of the times... the best that was new on the market. Ok also some crap sometimes... but worth for all the diamonds he dug out
Well first, John Peel was married to an american girl, she was 15, but it was legal in some states of America. Plus he didn't know at that time. Also he split up with her and he moved back to the UK. When he moved to the UK, he was technically married, but split from his wife who was living in America. In fact he only divorced her when he managed to get the papers for the divorce, while he was going out with Sheila, his future wife. Before his 2nd marriage, he was a free man. So he had ...
"hometown of Liverpool"lol..John Peel is a woollyback. Grew up in the same town i moved to out of Liverpool. Kinda funny how that works with people from Cheshire. They are only from Merseyside when it suits them :) Nothing against John personally though
Legend, no one comes close in the Radio/Music game!
Peel was the voice of radio and he is sadly missed!
John’s voice and wit always gave me the warmth and sense of ‘coming home’ to your loved ones; then he’d play Nag nag nag by Cabaret Voltaire - ace! With John’s absence, this land has become a rather wearisome place

We'll remember you John even when we're in a nursing home.

If Radio 1 is ever mentioned in 500 years time, it will be in discussing John Peel. The rest are destined for oblivion.
I wonder what happened to his music collection? I would love to get hold of it! OMG
It's still at the same place at his home
miss you!

Does anyone have a link to the tribute single involving Johns rant about needles? I think it was by Cold Cut.
John Peel gave the BBC ,so-called, "Street Cred" ! They've used this to give the youth of the World,et al, the impression that the BBC are believable/ honest/etc.......!
do you mean The Nation Needs You by The Cuban Boys? It contains Peelie ranting about someone nicking his styluses.
A hint of what the BBC thought of Peel: after he died, they never tried to replace him with someone similar. He just didn't fit in with what they wanted.
PLEASE someone link me to john's shows.. I will preserve them.. I have 4 or 5 full shows in mp3 and off looking for more! Do they exist!!!??
There will NEVER be a successor for JOHN PEEL !
