So many great titles here, I especially love the work of Delany, Butler, Okrafor. Dhalgren, Babel-17, Parable of the Sower, and Lagoon are favorites. Delany's "Nova" is arguable the first cyberpunk novel...though he never seems to be mentioned in the "founders of the subgenre" conversations.. great video
Thanks for watching. Idk if I'll ever read Dhalgren. I'm very intimidated by it. In the anthology Stories for Chip which was put together to honor Delany, I think there was an essay about cyberpunk and conversations about firsts and literary lineages. It'd be cool for me to read Nova and then revisit that essay.
Glad you found the video helpful! Any particular reason Escaping Exodus isn't holding your interest? I might be able to tell you if it gets better or recommend you something more up your alley.
I live Rosewater so much. Always in my top cyberpunk books recommendations to people. I’ve been meaning to get to Midnight Robber for a while now. Awesome stuff, thanks for all the recs. Added a bunch to the TBR.
Glad you found it helpful! I should re-read Rosewater at some point. It's been years, and I wonder if I've gained any perspective since first reading it.
I've had Sorrowland on my shelf since the day it was released... I keep forgetting that I own a copy. I've GOT to get to it one of these days. Same thing with Octavia E. Butler -- I've had a copy of Kindred for ages and haven't gotten to that one yet either. I wish I could read books as fast as I buy them, LOL! Great list of recommendations! MEM sounds pretty cool - I might have to check that one out!
Thanks! I've had books for years that I still haven't read. I asked my mom for books for Christmas, and she asked me if I finished them like 2 months later. I didn't know how to explain to her that that's not how this works.
Right, lol? I think I'd look into the future. Even if I saw something bad, I think I'm delusional enough that it wouldn't destroy me. Like I'd be like 'well this future seeing is faulty/ a scam'
Truly! I want more of it. If you're interested in fantasy set in Philly, there's a historical fantasy The Conductors by Nicole Glover which is set during Reconstruction.
*gasp* Wildseed was my entry point, so that's what I'm going to plug. Lilith's Brood could be good too. I just know that a lot of people are introduced via Kindred, and that works for them, but I dreaded reading it so I usually recommend waiting to get to that one. Thanks for watching, Sophia! Hope you enjoy Escaping Exodus.
@@ThistleVerse yeah, she self published so it doesn't have as wide a circulation and it's not readily available all the tome, but its gotten out there a good deal. She and I are friends and collaborators on many projects. Speaking of you should read my book ARKDUST by Alex Smith if you haven't already
@@Majesticon I think I saw you at a reading sometime before COVID at the Insectarium. Don't remember the name of the story, but it was about a very smug spaceship captain whose ship might've had an oil leak. I enjoyed it.
@@ThistleVerse hi! I def read at the insectarium but I don't think that was my story haha..I can't remember what my story was about that day 😜 super small world!
I can’t find a spaceship in bronzeville literally anywhere

Thanks for the mention! Tlotlo Tsamaase is amazing!
No problem. I've enjoyed the shorts I've read from her, so I'm sure I'll like the novella.
no one does it like u! ur taste is unmatched and i always know i'll be reading a banger when u recommend it.
I'm flattered, Bea! Hope these recommendations don't let you down.
Lots of great recommendations here! Ty!
Glad you found the video helpful!

Thanks for watching, Olivia! Glad you found it helpful
thank you for this!
Awesome list. My tbr just got way longer 😂
Thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful. The curse of the neverending TBR isn't the worst thing to have lol
Thanks 👍🏽 💯
Thanks for watching!
If you had the opportunity to glimpse into the future, would you do it? And look at you talking about a YA!

@@ThistleVerse I think I have that on the library list, I’ll add it to my personal list as well 🙂
I still need to read a book by Octavia E. Butler
Escaping Exodus is on my list!!
Your recommendations are always on point, can’t wait to check some of these out

coming in hot! Rasheedah's book is great
Glad you enjoyed it! I haven't met many people who've read it
