I just discovered your channel today and your take on things is so fresh and inspiring! I must admit, I absolutely love that you don’t have music in your videos - music is completely distracting/annoying for me so I greatly appreciate the peacefulness even in the non-verbal parts (aka “negative space” in the videos 😉). Thank you for sharing your style and ideas.
Gail, thank you, I really appreciate your feedback! I too am distracted by music, especially when I'm trying to hear the information over the music. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
I like this piece, enjoy your process and I appreciate that you don't have background music. Hearing and watching you create is great! I always look forward to seeing your videos.
Your videos are fine just they way they are. So glad I found your channel. Have learned so much since subscribing and binge-watching the other day. I even did a batch of my first successful gelli backgrounds thanks to you.
Vikki I have just discovered your work and I’m enjoying it greatly. What I really want to thank you for in this particular video though is sharing the anthem by Leonard Cohen I’ve never heard it before I immediately googled him and found several videos of his performance of the song. It touched me greatly and I have posted it to my Facebook page to share with my friends. Thank you so much for sharing. (I didn’t know of him through the song dance me to the end of love which is a favorite of mine.)
Colleen, thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It inspires and comforts me to read these things, reminded that we are not alone and that wise and compassionate souls travel before us and among us, and so I love to share that, too!
Thanks Shelley! The prints for greeting cards I use copy paper that is at least 24# stock (32# is better if you can find it!) and the black is #92. When printing for collage, I love the rice paper, (Japan Bargain Calligraphy Rice Paper) you can find it on Amazon! I love the rice paper, but it is very difficult to get adhered nicely to the greeting cards because it is thin, which is precisely what makes it so great for collage for paintings!
Wow - just checked out your finished piece - beautiful! And completely different to the initial - underpainting. Like you, I liked the underpainting in and of itself as well. I’m in awe of your ability to see in the underpainting, the finished piece! I’m not at all sure I have that creativity required to create something new and unique, as opposed to following tutorials and workshops - fear of failure……? Hmmmmmm……
Tricia, it's so interesting that you mentioned fear of failure! I did a blog post on that featuring this painting! That fear is what we all must negotiate with to keep painting. Every artist has it. From a book called "Art and Fear", "What separates artists from former artists is that those who challenge their fear keep creating, while those that won't, quit." Here is the blog post - chakramandalas.wordpress.com/2020/12/18/afraid-to-fail/
Romel, thanks for your question...yes, it can, you can use high flow acrylic very much like you use watercolor. The paper should be sturdy though, minimum 90 lb.
Steve, thank you! I actually did a blog post about it which shows the completed piece, and the link is here, chakramandalas.wordpress.com/2020/12/18/afraid-to-fail/ I'm not sure how to post a photo here!

@@VikkiReed big thanks Vikki they are awesome! Your work is excellent, I’m trying so hard! You make it look soooo easy! Your hands don’t even get painted! I’m a mess! At it a month … thank you for sharing, I’m following… & working till I get it!!!
@@suzsaez5977 Keep trying, but play instead of work...this can be so fun! Just do what you enjoy and let go of results...and I do get PLENTY of paint on my hands, often under my nails, that I don't notice until I go out! Keep leaning into what you enjoy, I know you will be successful!
Yes, I always gesso the canvas first, I like textured canvas, meaning I don't apply the gesso evenly, but leave ridges and brushstrokes, sometimes even pressing stencils or textured items into the gesso for effect, thank you for your question!
@@VikkiReed wow that turned out so well! How did you get the wheel on his neck to be so white? Anyway I wish I could do abstract. All I do is watercolor the cactus flowers around here. 🥰
@@arleenaartvark1141 I hear you…keep challenging it! I am using fluid acrylics which have more versatility than watercolor, and I will use spray gesso and/or white acrylic ink applied as a spray to bring the whites back, then tint them with acrylic washes

Thank you Donna! I only have a few (out of over 100) videos that have music and I don't ever add it to the new ones. I'm so glad you enjoy the videos!
