Yeah. While I still like his reviews I don't like his newer ones quite as much. He gets a little too enthusiastic at times and lays it on kinda thick with the different OSTs from different games. I liked his older deadpan approach more.
I’ve finished every Mega Man game (except Mega Man & Bass, the Legends Series and the Battle Network/Star Force series) and, despite my belief that X6 is worse, I’ve played through that piece of garbage 3/4 times, while I’ve only ever played through X7 once. As for why I’ve played X6 so many times: I’m an idiot who wanted to beat the game with only Zero and only X (after one play through of switching between them)
@@aionicthunder I beat the game with zero and X separately and the X playthrough was much easier with the shadow armor lol that thing is overtuned. On the opposite side of the spectrum beating the game with zero was a nightmare. I still love X6 but man you gotta be in the right mood.

X4 is good but is extremely ez minus final sigma, the controls are friggin solid in that game, may be the reason i feel it is so ez, it feels so right to move in that game, X6 is frustrating tho, its nothing but cheap deaths, do you like bottomless pits, spikes and other ways to die instantly, X6 is full of them, its just annoying, and lets not mention the nightmare system and the practically repeat armors from X5. Also the bosses minus two are just a cakewalk.
X5 is dogshit unless you patch the game ISO with the patch that removes all alia dialogue and fixes the problem where if you pick Zero you're stuck with no armor X. Even then it's still a chore to play because you have to purposly get 8 or 9 game overs so the bosses level up and you can actually get upgrades from beating them.
Why didn't they just make X already strong the moment you get him? He's supposed to be the best, right? Give it this feeling of, "He's amazingly strong, but he doesn't WANT to fight, rather than he CAN'T fight," so finally being able to play him suddenly has even more impact than it already would. Oh wait I forgot this game sucks

There are so many more things wrong with Flame Hyenard than his constant yelling. His attacks are super hard to dodge. It's hard to understand that you have to climb the giant horse in the background to actually damage him. The crappy collisions on that giant horse make your jumps fail to work half the time. Climbing on that horse is also glitchy... etc...
MegaPhilX He has the biggest battlefield and yet you can only damage him on the top of the mech, a small arena. The robot is constantly moving and bouncing so actually jumping over his attacks relies on luck. The robot and the fact that he can summon clones has nothing to do with fire or being a hyena. You can't disable the mech...etc.Sorry, just continuing where you left off.
MegaPhilX Also, whenever he turns, you can end up sliding off of the giant gazelle (yeah, I am fairly certain it's a gazelle, which would make sense since he's a hyena and gazelles live in the same environment) and falling into the lava, where you BURN! BURN! BURN TO THE GROUND!

X8 is basically X7 done right Better story, cooler mavericks, returned to proper Megaman X gameplay, three different attractive robot ladies who actually give you useful advice that is different depending on who you choose, and you could play as all three heroes at the start, even the voice acting is better! I would not mind there not being anymore X games, X8 is the best we are going to get in terms of a finishing game
Also, the lock-on should have either been 3d only or at the press of a button. Aiming in 2d could have just been the right stick, and kept a bit of challenge.
I absolutely agree. The Legends series has its flaws, but for the most part it was 3D Mega Man done right, and infinitely superior to X7 in that regard.

Never lower your expectations for a game you've never played (I had the opposite experience with X4 where I pushed my expectations too high, and thus I ended up not enjoying it as much as the others).

Funny story about X8, I've never seen the ending for it. My disc got damaged and the game would freeze just as the final cutscene started. The rest of the game played fine, except for that one moment.

Corrections: Warfly's stage has a really short 2D section before the boss. There are 16 reploids in all 8 maverick stages! so you only have to complete 4 stages to unlock X.

Like, the entirety of House of the Dead 2, or playing against Ness on Smash 4? Flame Hyenard was one of the earliest examples of me personally doing this.
Ironically, I'll be playing THIS instead of the whole Kingdom Hearts series. HOLD IT!!! 🤚Lemme explain: I play for story most of the time, and going back to it after finishing the story. Kingdom hearts: Number 3 shouldn't even be made after how it got presented. Megaman X: 7 is bad while 6 is majorly panned, but one is fun and the other is trying. Kingdom hearts is great to play, but. DAMN that story to hell!

While not perfect by any stretch, i honestly think people exagerate in their hate for x6, and personally i even like it ... i also do think people exagerated their hate to MN9, and while it obviously didn't lived up to the hype, i think people bash on it more due to its troubled production(the masterclass trailer was just rubbing salt on a wound, had the development not being so bad, i think most people would have let it slide and even get a few self-deprecating snikers instead of the massive bashing and calling it a capital offense to their core audience) than due to the end result itself , just like i feel people bash more on X6 due to it supposedly being rushed in less than a year, minor retconning and witouth inafunes input than due to the game itself X6 needed to give a little bit more of a breather/ error margin on saving reploids and take into consideration unarmored X (and according to some, tone down its diffiuclty, i find it alright save a few cheap spots) and specially remapping Zero's Sentsuizan (pressing the up button making an attack go downwards is not a good idea, specially when you're trying to grab a wire over a bottomless pit), and a bit of polish on some areas but overall i consider it a good game MN9 needs to rely less on F´CKING CHEAP INSTA-DEATH TRAPS (and probably considering extending the mercy invisibility to them as well, all the games after the original Megaman got it right) and not making dashing into enemies a necesary mechanic to destroy them, the Xel Absorption should JUST be an incentive for high risk/high reward expert players, not a punishment for players who want to play a little more safe by making them either have to shot a ton of lemons before destroying a single enemy or forcing less expereinced players do run straight into an enemy's fist if they didn't counted/timed correctly their shots or moved to a more crowded area where trying to finish an enemy means you'll get hurt by the others. i feel MN9 trie too hard on bieng a "HIGH SPEED HIGH ADRENALINE ACTION PACKED " game and dare i say, tries to be a speedrunner focused game, where you must have perfect reflexes, perfectly memorized enemy posicioning and finish it off fast and achieve the highest score, and if you don't youll just get yourself into a world of frustration .while ironically, it's predecesors (specially the original megaman) were more about understanding your enviorement and taking things slowly(without it being a chore or taking forever), clearing your path before proceeding and often the worst you could do was to be impatient as that would mean running straight into an enemy attack (somehting MN9 on the other hand tries to incentivice), and yet all the other series still have a healty speed runner fanbase for those who have mastered the game and push it to their limits, while still being friendly to more casual players. i feel MN9 is misguieded in this aspect, and by trying to make it more "hardcore", migh end up alienating the rest of the fanbase, and let's be honest, even if seeing the pros pullin some crazy s#1t, if your average player only experiences frustration after frustation, they'll leave, and you'll lose mane fans/clients who would otherwise become eternal fans or being in their first step towards becoming the next generation pro's at the game) AS FOR what should X7 do....just play the clip,you know the one
People only give that game a pass because it's 2D. X6 had godawful level design, a rushed translation, the Nightmare Mechanic was broken as fuck, the game literally opens with a gigantic plot hole (so, three weeks have passed since X5 and humanity was nearly wiped out? So why the fuck does X still remember Zero? That is the result of the good ending that took place three years later and you managed to stop the Eurasia crash), Zero's death from X5 was retconned so insultingly stupid this side of Nanako Dojima (he repaired himself? Were the writers even fucking trying?), and it butt-fucked Inafune's original plans for the "Mega Man Zero" series. X5 was supposed to be the last, but Capcom got greedy. They didn't care when they made it, and you could tell with how the game was designed and translated. At least X7 was finished. X7's worst flaws were Axl and people not getting used to the new 3D design. I stand by what I say. If X7 is "Sonic '06," then X6 is "Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric."

Long time no see? Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3! Aww man I miss you guys so much! You guys are amazing! Man. Those games. So much fun. I love playing those games who you play as something other than what the game is named after.
The difference with most of those are, we don't go in expecting to play as the titular characters. We've know since the beginning you play as link and samus. With Megaman X, we've spent 6 games expecting to play as X. So while you have a point, there is a very definitive difference.
Something else that bugs me about X7 that I don't hear a lot of people mention: I hate how the 'cutscenes' are just text with voice acting and sprites. Yeah, that was passable in the 2D games, but when your first and foremost selling point is that you're all cool and 3D, it comes across as lazy that your presentation amounts to a powerpoint with some bad voice acting.
Miyamoto Fan The difference between Zelda and Mega Man is that Mega Man has ALWAYS been playable from the start. The series REVOLVES around HIM. In the Legend of Zelda series, the protagonist has always been Link.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was fantastic. Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time and Bowser's Inside Story were great. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team was, you know, good. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, was, not as good, but they are all still fun..
Flame Hyenard is worse in the Legacy Collection, the framerate was enhanced in X7 as well as the load times so he essentially talks twice as much where he can't even finish a sentence lol
My opinions on the main X games X1: Pretty great start to the series, but it's not my absolute favorite. X2: For me, the best of the SNES games. While the music isn't as badass as X1's, the rest of the game besides Pickle Maverick makes up for it. X3: Good. That's really all I have to say, never found it as interesting as the previous 2... X4: It's an awesome game, but I wish X's weapons had a bit more power to them. Final stages should be longer too. X5: Certainly not perfect, but I enjoyed this one the most out of the 8 X games. X6: Terrible, but I do enjoy it from time to time. X7: Terrible too, and I didn't really enjoy much of it besides 4 stages. X8: Great game, but it has terrible weapons for X, and an overall mediocre Maverick lineup.

You know, I'm not even AGAINST the idea that X, being naturally pacifistic and the more kindhearted out of the Hunters, is now so sick of the fighting that he wants to give up or is actively questioning "just how much good are we doing when we have to keep doing this and it never seems to end"? But the way they went about it was wrong. It would have been better to play as him but to have him questioning just how much good he's doing from the start, and to then have it made clear at the end that what he does DOES help, however small an impact he may think he has. Though to be honest, there's one big problem I have with the Mega Man series and its the lack of human characters. Seriously, think about it. We never see the real impact that Robot Masters and Mavericks have on humans, who are pretty much the biggest target. They're just shoved to the side. It's why the Z and ZX games were refreshing, you could play as a human or work right alongside them and be able to understand the struggle from their POV. That made what you were doing feel meaningful. But even then, there's something that's always glossed over. The idea that "Oh, how awful humans are for developing weapons of war, yadda yadda yadda". When it's ROBOTS who have been causing the most damage in the series, killing more people in a few years than half of human history combined. ELF WARS anyone? And half the planet was killed off thanks to Maverick behavior during X5 and Eurasia. But no, no, it's HUMANS who are the big problem with the planet, not a species that's inherently ten times more powerful, can easily snap a human in half if they met them on the street, has weapons built into them and armor-GIMME A BREAK. If the average human tried to fight the average reploid, he'd be a grease stain in seconds, but noooooooo! You keep whining about how untrustwothy and awful humanity is, series. And ignore your own shameless hypocrisy.
Nick Grey What's even worse with X in this one is that he is a huge whiny dick about it on top of it being a subject he has brought up in just about every game in the series. So it's overdone as all hell but he's being a douche on top of it. Actively refusing to fight when he knows there are lives that are in danger, he had to basically be forced into getting off his ass to do anything. Maybe he wasnt playable from the start because Capcom knew how much of a douchenozzle they made him :p

One good thing came out of this game. Mega Man ZX Advent. Okay granted, the only thing it drew out of this was Mega Man A (Biometal Model A is based off of Axl for those who don't know) himself, but it's cool in that game :D
It was created to emulate Master Albert and his A-trans ability, but it's character design, weapons, voice and personality closely resemble those of Axl, who also just happened to be the first reploid with A-trans even though he isn't even mentioned in MZX:A. Nice try though

Granted the zx series are a continuation of the zero series, but the original x and zero are referenced in the former and actually show up in the latter, both without so much as a mention of Axl. Maybe he never became an official hunter and that's why there's no record of him? I never finished 7 and 8 so I'm not sure ^_^
Model A is what Axl should've always been. The concept of being able to play as the Mavericks is so sick, it absolutely has to be revisted if we ever get an X9.
Other than the good soundtrack and nice looking character models, I can't say anything else good about X7. I'm surprised that Jared didn't point out how many load times are in the stage where you fight the mavericks again; if I remember correctly, there are about 18 load screens in that stage.
Mega SilverX I know it's PS and standards were way different back then, but "nice looking", really? They look like crap. Models are low-poly, they're too small so there's a lot of distortion especially when they're moving. It's especially jarring compared to previous Rockman X games on PS with sharp 2D sprites.
That boss fight was just boring once you figured out his weakness. He has wayyyyy too much health despite never really changing his predictable tactics. The Sigma battle is so, so much worse considering he's got at least 2 phases that hit like freight trains.

I’ve finished every Mega Man game (except Mega Man & Bass, the Legends Series and the Battle Network/Star Force series) and, despite my belief that X6 is worse, I’ve played through that piece of garbage 3/4 times, while I’ve only ever played through X7 once. As for why I’ve played X6 so many times: I’m an idiot who wanted to beat the game with only Zero and only X (after one play through of switching between them)
@@aionicthunder I beat the game with zero and X separately and the X playthrough was much easier with the shadow armor lol that thing is overtuned. On the opposite side of the spectrum beating the game with zero was a nightmare. I still love X6 but man you gotta be in the right mood.

X4 is good but is extremely ez minus final sigma, the controls are friggin solid in that game, may be the reason i feel it is so ez, it feels so right to move in that game, X6 is frustrating tho, its nothing but cheap deaths, do you like bottomless pits, spikes and other ways to die instantly, X6 is full of them, its just annoying, and lets not mention the nightmare system and the practically repeat armors from X5. Also the bosses minus two are just a cakewalk.
X5 is dogshit unless you patch the game ISO with the patch that removes all alia dialogue and fixes the problem where if you pick Zero you're stuck with no armor X. Even then it's still a chore to play because you have to purposly get 8 or 9 game overs so the bosses level up and you can actually get upgrades from beating them.
Why didn't they just make X already strong the moment you get him?
He's supposed to be the best, right? Give it this feeling of, "He's amazingly strong, but he doesn't WANT to fight, rather than he CAN'T fight," so finally being able to play him suddenly has even more impact than it already would.

There are so many more things wrong with Flame Hyenard than his constant yelling.
His attacks are super hard to dodge. It's hard to understand that you have to climb the giant horse in the background to actually damage him. The crappy collisions on that giant horse make your jumps fail to work half the time. Climbing on that horse is also glitchy... etc...

MegaPhilX He has the biggest battlefield and yet you can only damage him on the top of the mech, a small arena. The robot is constantly moving and bouncing so actually jumping over his attacks relies on luck. The robot and the fact that he can summon clones has nothing to do with fire or being a hyena. You can't disable the mech...etc.Sorry, just continuing where you left off.

Better story, cooler mavericks, returned to proper Megaman X gameplay, three different attractive robot ladies who actually give you useful advice that is different depending on who you choose, and you could play as all three heroes at the start, even the voice acting is better!
I would not mind there not being anymore X games, X8 is the best we are going to get in terms of a finishing game

Mega man worked in 3d exactly twice. (not counting battle network and star force) And that was in the two mega man legends games.
Also, the lock-on should have either been 3d only or at the press of a button. Aiming in 2d could have just been the right stick, and kept a bit of challenge.
I absolutely agree. The Legends series has its flaws, but for the most part it was 3D Mega Man done right, and infinitely superior to X7 in that regard.

Never lower your expectations for a game you've never played (I had the opposite experience with X4 where I pushed my expectations too high, and thus I ended up not enjoying it as much as the others).

... i also do think people exagerated their hate to MN9, and while it obviously didn't lived up to the hype, i think people bash on it more due to its troubled production(the masterclass trailer was just rubbing salt on a wound, had the development not being so bad, i think most people would have let it slide and even get a few self-deprecating snikers instead of the massive bashing and calling it a capital offense to their core audience) than due to the end result itself , just like i feel people bash more on X6 due to it supposedly being rushed in less than a year, minor retconning and witouth inafunes input than due to the game itself
X6 needed to give a little bit more of a breather/ error margin on saving reploids and take into consideration unarmored X (and according to some, tone down its diffiuclty, i find it alright save a few cheap spots) and specially remapping Zero's Sentsuizan (pressing the up button making an attack go downwards is not a good idea, specially when you're trying to grab a wire over a bottomless pit), and a bit of polish on some areas but overall i consider it a good game
MN9 needs to rely less on F´CKING CHEAP INSTA-DEATH TRAPS (and probably considering extending the mercy invisibility to them as well, all the games after the original Megaman got it right) and not making dashing into enemies a necesary mechanic to destroy them, the Xel Absorption should JUST be an incentive for high risk/high reward expert players, not a punishment for players who want to play a little more safe by making them either have to shot a ton of lemons before destroying a single enemy or forcing less expereinced players do run straight into an enemy's fist if they didn't counted/timed correctly their shots or moved to a more crowded area where trying to finish an enemy means you'll get hurt by the others. i feel MN9 trie too hard on bieng a "HIGH SPEED HIGH ADRENALINE ACTION PACKED " game and dare i say, tries to be a speedrunner focused game, where you must have perfect reflexes, perfectly memorized enemy posicioning and finish it off fast and achieve the highest score, and if you don't youll just get yourself into a world of frustration .while ironically, it's predecesors (specially the original megaman) were more about understanding your enviorement and taking things slowly(without it being a chore or taking forever), clearing your path before proceeding and often the worst you could do was to be impatient as that would mean running straight into an enemy attack (somehting MN9 on the other hand tries to incentivice), and yet all the other series still have a healty speed runner fanbase for those who have mastered the game and push it to their limits, while still being friendly to more casual players. i feel MN9 is misguieded in this aspect, and by trying to make it more "hardcore", migh end up alienating the rest of the fanbase, and let's be honest, even if seeing the pros pullin some crazy s#1t, if your average player only experiences frustration after frustation, they'll leave, and you'll lose mane fans/clients who would otherwise become eternal fans or being in their first step towards becoming the next generation pro's at the game)

People only give that game a pass because it's 2D. X6 had godawful level design, a rushed translation, the Nightmare Mechanic was broken as fuck, the game literally opens with a gigantic plot hole (so, three weeks have passed since X5 and humanity was nearly wiped out? So why the fuck does X still remember Zero? That is the result of the good ending that took place three years later and you managed to stop the Eurasia crash), Zero's death from X5 was retconned so insultingly stupid this side of Nanako Dojima (he repaired himself? Were the writers even fucking trying?), and it butt-fucked Inafune's original plans for the "Mega Man Zero" series. X5 was supposed to be the last, but Capcom got greedy. They didn't care when they made it, and you could tell with how the game was designed and translated. At least X7 was finished. X7's worst flaws were Axl and people not getting used to the new 3D design. I stand by what I say. If X7 is "Sonic '06," then X6 is "Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric."

Something else that bugs me about X7 that I don't hear a lot of people mention: I hate how the 'cutscenes' are just text with voice acting and sprites. Yeah, that was passable in the 2D games, but when your first and foremost selling point is that you're all cool and 3D, it comes across as lazy that your presentation amounts to a powerpoint with some bad voice acting.

My opinions on the main X games
X1: Pretty great start to the series, but it's not my absolute favorite.
X2: For me, the best of the SNES games. While the music isn't as badass as X1's, the rest of the game besides Pickle Maverick makes up for it.
X3: Good. That's really all I have to say, never found it as interesting as the previous 2...
X4: It's an awesome game, but I wish X's weapons had a bit more power to them. Final stages should be longer too.
X5: Certainly not perfect, but I enjoyed this one the most out of the 8 X games.
X6: Terrible, but I do enjoy it from time to time.
X7: Terrible too, and I didn't really enjoy much of it besides 4 stages.
X8: Great game, but it has terrible weapons for X, and an overall mediocre Maverick lineup.

You know, I'm not even AGAINST the idea that X, being naturally pacifistic and the more kindhearted out of the Hunters, is now so sick of the fighting that he wants to give up or is actively questioning "just how much good are we doing when we have to keep doing this and it never seems to end"? But the way they went about it was wrong. It would have been better to play as him but to have him questioning just how much good he's doing from the start, and to then have it made clear at the end that what he does DOES help, however small an impact he may think he has.
Though to be honest, there's one big problem I have with the Mega Man series and its the lack of human characters. Seriously, think about it. We never see the real impact that Robot Masters and Mavericks have on humans, who are pretty much the biggest target. They're just shoved to the side. It's why the Z and ZX games were refreshing, you could play as a human or work right alongside them and be able to understand the struggle from their POV. That made what you were doing feel meaningful.
But even then, there's something that's always glossed over. The idea that "Oh, how awful humans are for developing weapons of war, yadda yadda yadda". When it's ROBOTS who have been causing the most damage in the series, killing more people in a few years than half of human history combined. ELF WARS anyone? And half the planet was killed off thanks to Maverick behavior during X5 and Eurasia. But no, no, it's HUMANS who are the big problem with the planet, not a species that's inherently ten times more powerful, can easily snap a human in half if they met them on the street, has weapons built into them and armor-GIMME A BREAK. If the average human tried to fight the average reploid, he'd be a grease stain in seconds, but noooooooo! You keep whining about how untrustwothy and awful humanity is, series. And ignore your own shameless hypocrisy.
Nick Grey What's even worse with X in this one is that he is a huge whiny dick about it on top of it being a subject he has brought up in just about every game in the series. So it's overdone as all hell but he's being a douche on top of it.
Actively refusing to fight when he knows there are lives that are in danger, he had to basically be forced into getting off his ass to do anything.
Maybe he wasnt playable from the start because Capcom knew how much of a douchenozzle they made him :p

One good thing came out of this game. Mega Man ZX Advent. Okay granted, the only thing it drew out of this was Mega Man A (Biometal Model A is based off of Axl for those who don't know) himself, but it's cool in that game :D

It was created to emulate Master Albert and his A-trans ability, but it's character design, weapons, voice and personality closely resemble those of Axl, who also just happened to be the first reploid with A-trans even though he isn't even mentioned in MZX:A.

...holy shit! hadn't even thought of that. Granted the zx series are a continuation of the zero series, but the original x and zero are referenced in the former and actually show up in the latter, both without so much as a mention of Axl.
Maybe he never became an official hunter and that's why there's no record of him? I never finished 7 and 8 so I'm not sure ^_^
Model A is what Axl should've always been. The concept of being able to
play as the Mavericks is so sick, it absolutely has to be revisted if we
ever get an X9.
Other than the good soundtrack and nice looking character models, I can't say anything else good about X7. I'm surprised that Jared didn't point out how many load times are in the stage where you fight the mavericks again; if I remember correctly, there are about 18 load screens in that stage.
Mega SilverX I know it's PS and standards were way different back then, but "nice looking", really? They look like crap. Models are low-poly, they're too small so there's a lot of distortion especially when they're moving. It's especially jarring compared to previous Rockman X games on PS with sharp 2D sprites.
