The most awesome thing about this series of videos is that we can apply it not only for food mentality but also to our daily day lives. Feelings, emotions and, especially, the way we embrace them and consider them 'normal' is the key to live a healthier life. And you talk about it like a true master, love listening your ideas, thanks for sharing them with us Dani. Be happy!
I have been lucky enough to not grow up in a home where anyone has had a diet mentality. So naturally, when I moved out of home and started making my own food, there were many issues and temptations that resulted in weight gain. However, once I started educating myself on food and nutrition, the passion far surpassed any temptation. My trick to not being tempted is having healthy, nourishing treats around that there is no guilt associated with and you have made the conscious decision that you deserve a treat, but let's have something tasty AND good for you. In saying this though, I still am at work all day where the team members bring in lots of "naughty" foods and i won't punish myself for partaking every now and then.... Everyone deserves to have a guilt free and healthy relationship with food and i love these videos so far :)
Hi Dani (that's my daughter's name too) this is excellent advice all around. Much of this is great Cognitive Behavioral principles! I really think the awareness of our thoughts is so key because our thoughts can be out of awareness as they frequently may be so automatic that we may be unaware of them. I am growing more in awareness of diet mentality and beliefs so engrained in our culture. One of the pressures I'm under in my own mind and from others is to do this ketogenic diet that is all the rage. It promises quick weight loss which I'm sure can be very enticing for many in our "quick fix" culture, but at that the same time it is so draconian in its rigid restrictiveness. I won't be going that route! Keep up the great work!
Advertising is the worst culprit in our society. Telling us what to eat that's healthy and what's not. When you learn that the reason something like say coconut oil was touted as being bad, you find out the propaganda pushed on us was paid for by the vegetable oil industry. Or when we're told that sugar doesn't cause health problems, you find out that the study showing this was paid for by the sugar industry. People will, however, believe what they want because they don't want to give up all the foods they love, even though they're bad for us. It isn't until you're diagnosed with heart disease or diabetes that you finally get a clue. Keep up the good work, Dani. I've been watching your videos for a while and even commented on them but my screen name then was "Mars". Now I'm using my real name because it's time to come out of the shadows of anonymity. lol. Continued good health and thank again for posting these videos. I absolutely love your recipes! BTW, I can no longer digest raw vegetables so now I simply cook them. It's a battle staving off old age but hey, it's inevitable. Just want to be the healthiest I can be when getting old(er).
Dani thank you for this ❤️ Coming from an eating disorder i feel like this is the only thing and mindset that has helped me. I am definetly practicing this forever 🤗 LOVE YOU and your contnent.
I have been trying out these thing that you talk about in this 10 week programme. This is really working for me. Thank You😍😄💕 I can not afford the books though, but by you doing this on your chanil I can do it. Thank You again.😄💕
Harnish1102 I relate to you so much, this is like tha black and white mentality. I find what helps me is eating it mindfully, after that I just remind myself that I can have another one if I am willing to eat it mindfully and with joy. The key is giving your body and mind the peace to know that food is there for you to fuel you!
iovanna cobian I am like Hamish1102 and really need more advice for coping with this. Not just eating more cookies but the thought that I will eat more cookies. Dorsey.
Diane Shepard This is hard, I am currently recovering from Binge Eating Disorder and I know what you must be feeling: it is anxiety compulsion and obsession around food! I tell you that stop trying to lose weight is the best thing you can do for your mental health.
I've found that if I give myself full permission, with no guilt, eventually I was satisfied with one cookie. In the beginning there was some cookies all day. But it loses it's appeal if you are allowed as much as you want because then you can tune into how it makes you feel. And- from experience- cookies all day doesn't usually feel good! Been there!
kmlb81 I agree, this is about choosing to give yourself time to tune ínto the real signals of your body even if it takes time to adjust. I came into a point when i preferred to recover my mental health that way instead of fighting my need to be in shape.
Beatifully presented. Intuitive eating is something I do now, but I also know I'm not going to always eat 'correctly'. I now make the concious thought about what I'm eating and how I feel afterwards. Very empowering. And yes, it's difficult at times. And I never 'diet'. And yes, I'm at a 'normal' weight and fitness level that works so I feel healthy. Woof!
Dani this is so helpful! Thank you for bringing this awareness of good and bad foods to the table! This is definitely an “ah ha!” for me! Love the series! 👍🏻
My takeaway from principle 4 is that we need to use CBT techniques to combat the negative self-talk responses we find ourselves conditioned to make when thinking about food. The chapter has a lot of detail about specific beliefs and the countering statements that we should learn, so that we can displace the negative self-talk with more rational self-talk.
Thank you for giving me new tools too my weightloos. I love your Channel and your personality, you are a Big inspiration for me to eat healty and be positiv. Thanks for all your recepies, they are fantastic 🙏🏻 Thanks for all🙏🏻😀 Love from Tanja in Denmark
Happy Tuesday + Welcome to Week 4 of our Intuitive Eating Series! This week we will be chatting all about the pesky little food voice in your head - aka - the food police! Would love to hear any and all of your thoughts, questions + experiences down in the comments below! xo-Dani
Clean & Delicious I do not like that this series does not at all take into consideration someone’s ethical reasons for not eating certain foods like being vegetarian or vegan. To dismiss that as “food police” is a bit insulting.
Dani I've been reading about veganism and all that lately (let me clear that I am not a religious or very spiritual person) but for about a year I was feeling uncomfortable consuming animal products. I was not reading about it intentionally I just somehow come across. I was been vegetarian for almost three months initially it was quite easy but now I'm craving my old favourite dishes. I started eating eggs yesterday but I still feel uncomfortable eating meat but I don't think I can be a vegan or vegetarian. It is a very annoying situation for me. Any suggestions? What can I do?
Also I have very limited choice in food here. I do not take a healthy. I don't want to eat what is cooked in my house. I hate the taste. I'm not a good at cooking and as I said ingredients are limited. My head is always like I'm hungry. What should I eat? Maybe I'm not it might just be emotional hundry. What's the point the food has no nutrition and no taste. Most of the time I end up eating junk and then oh I did it again. I should not be eating this and it goes on and on.
My husband and I set out the coffee and donuts at our church. About half the time, we are not tempted, but now when we are tempted, we will tell the other person "Oh, I want one of those donuts." The other person's reply is "What type of response do you need?" (meaning "yes, go ahead enjoy a donut, one donut wont hurt you"... or... "don't eat that, it will upset your stomach."). These conversations help us figure out if we really want to eat one or if we want to resist. I finding this type of response is good in other areas as well when someone presents a problem asking them "What kind of friend do you need right now? encouraging? reprimanding? just listening?" This way, I know how to respond and the other person has to think of what they need.
Thank you, Dani, that’s my problem and need to change my mind not only about nutrition but about many other things... well, am scheduled for a shift!😂🤗😘
Interesting video as always. What you are describing here seems to me to be too close to the concept of moderation for comfort for me. Any thing we do in life is either right or wrong towards the end of accomplishing a goal. None of us are perfect and having a scheduled binge meal once a week is not going to hurt most people and may actually help some to stay on track for the rest of the week, as long as there are predetermined guidelines set and adhered to.In my mind if I don't have a plan I am planning to fail. You do great videos! Keep it up!
I am becoming more aware of my eating but I am finding it hard to not eat after I am full or eat that cookie even though I am not hungry and it is there to eat. My biggest thing it wasting food.. It is very hard for me to leave food on my plate even if I am full
Janine Ashcraft Try asking yourself how it feels when you eat when you are full, or when you eat the rest of the cookies. If you just feel too stuffed and uncomfortable then prioritize yourself enough to say I’m not going to continue I’m too stuffed and pack it away in the fridge or next time portion yourself something less when you sit down and eat
Hi Danny, Thank you for your video. I understand what you say about silencing your food police. But I got a practical problem : I have a trigger food : pain au chocolat (I am french, it's a kind of pastry). I really know that eating one pain au chocolat once in a while is not a problem or a big deal. But the thing is, when I eat even one, I eat all the ones I can put my hands on. We regularly have colleague at work bringging a lot of pastry (pain au chocolat, croissant, pain au raisin, etc. ) for a communal breackfast. There is usually way more than needed, so it's not even rude to eat 15 of those. So I spend the day stressing to not eating these pastries, because when I surrender saying to myself one is not going to kill you, I end up eating way, way, way more than I should. I don't know how to deal with it. Because, I don't thing I should forbid myself to eat any kind of food (And let's be honest, if I have to never again eat french pastry, kill me now ^^), but that the kind of food for which I can not find a kind of balance of moderation. I really need to find a way though, the stress is killing me and useless.
Hei Dani, I'm 16 years old and I have been in the world of culture dieting for my whole yet short life lol When I was like ten years old, I was really healthy and ate normal amounts of food and managed to have a healthy weight. But trough the years I've started eating progressively more and more food, without properly tasting the food, just eating tons, fast, I'm a little bit overweight on my lower region, and I'm really self conscious about it, I've started to read and know better intuitive eating, But I've been really confused, because, I don't really know if I have to listen entirely to my hunger or to my mind, In my family we eat really good, here in Italy, its normal. So, when I eat like a little bit too many cookies I feel bad afterwards feeling like I didn't need to eat them after all, and I find it difficult to fully understand when to eat, And I sometimes eat when I'm bored, I think it's bad is it? Do I have to think about my habits or is it still dieting in a way? In these days I've tried " ie" but I've found myself over analyzing my hunger signals, and feeling bad for eating after my fullness, I'm just really confused and I'm afraid that it's not going to make me healthy, please answer me I'm in a mess of thoughts 😩😊
Eylice I worked out this week I have struggled all my life with the diet culture. I’m now 43 and would love to help you not go in that direction. Intuitive eating takes time and I’ve recently been introduced to structured eating. Eating every 3 hours, 3 meals and 3 snacks a day without judging the foods either good or bad. Keep it simple. Realistically enjoy food, don’t waste time measuring or counting. I’ve done it for years and wasted many years. Pause as you eat, no distractions, phones or tv but truly savour the foods or experience. Xx
Food choices are either healthy or not...it is NOT a moral choice. Labeling foods good and bad attaches emotions that induce guilt and shame and makes it a moral choice which is totally wrong. Food is either healthy or not......period! Don’t allow yourself be played by the food police.
Are you going to address the taste buds and portion control. I am one that dose not care what others think or say I just love my food. Type 2 diabetic dose not go with this.
Turn off the TV...get rid of cable. Read the Bible and seek the Lord. He will help you. God won't lie to us. It starts in your heart. Don't follow your heart, follow Jesus.

What are your thoughts on AIP or other healing elimination diets?
I am new here and will definitely check other videos 😊👍👌
Welcome! I hope you enjoy the videos.
I have another question.. If I get the book do I need the work book or should I get the workbook and not the book?
I would get the workbook - I just love how it comes with all of the exercise too and still covers al main points that are in the book.
Thanks
Do these principles also apply to drinking alcohol? Intuitive drinking maybe?
Can I do some healthy summer treat recipes
I will!
Dani, thank you for your '3 ingredient oatmeal cookie' recipe. I have taken the blue print to a whole level by adding things l want, thx.

I doubt anyone can eat only one cookie and stop. 8-10 is probably the norm for most people when they do eat them.
I intuitively want to eat an entire pizza.
Please check your focus before you start filming, the focus is behind you...
