- MOMENT Ukrainian artillery land direct hit on unsuspecting Russian tank in Donetsk.
The images show a stationary tank on a road before it is suddenly hit by ordnance fired by Ukrainian artillerymen. The tank appears damaged and smoke can be seen emanating from it before it moves a short distance.
It is currently unclear if the tank was destroyed.
The footage was obtained from the National Guard of Ukraine on Wednesday, 17th August, along with a statement saying: "The artillery of the National Guard of Ukraine is aiming fire at Russian tanks in the Donetsk region."
Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February in what the Kremlin is still calling a "special military operation". Today marks the 175th day of the war.

I'm not sure that is artillery. If so it's very low yield explosives.
it looked more like a grenade...a 155 art shell would have put that into a crater
@DJ SCHLAGER ERA has questionable effectiveness against even the types of munitions it was designed to counter, which is HEAT warheads.
An artillery shell is going to slam straight through an ERA panel as if it's not there
@DJ SCHLAGER There are a few videos showing the Orc's 'reactive armor'. It's a couple sheets of thin rubber separated by sheets of cardboard. No lie. Look it up.

If that was a direct hit from artillery, the tank would have been obliterated
It’s possibly SMAarT 155 round supplied by Germany. It dispenses two submunitions which have infrared and an MMW imaging radar that scans the target area in 3D. These autonomously home on to tanks. The warheads have EFP explosive formed penetrators. The British Brimstone missile and the longbow variants of Hellfire have these MMW seekers as well but the Germans made 155mm artillery round. I can’t see the second submunition but.
@@williamzk9083 I doubt it, probably a mortar hit or a hit from a 100 to 105 mm HE round... But it disabled anything and everything on top of that turret!
I was thinking the same thing…
This is mortar or Javelin, not artillery.
@@olalundreppe5636 definitely not a javelin..

No way that tank would've been able to reverse or move at all if that was a direct artillery hit
Not necessarily. Artillery is a broad range of different weapons

its a mortar round technically a mortar is artillery. No it cant destroy it but can destroy sights and sensors making it unusable for a while
@@imortaliz yes it is, my mistake.. I was referring to the standard issue 155mm NATO artillery shells but forgot to mention that..
Judging from its precision and destructive capacity, the attack was most likely carried out by a small consumer drone, which should be essentially intended for soft targets like trucks and ammo depots.
No. Tanks, proper MBT’s are immune to the munitions carried by small consumer drones. A larger non consumer drone lobbed a far bigger munition onto this tank. Moreover we didn’t see any aftermath of the munition drop. Did the tank survive, obviously the driver did as the tank moved?
@@teeanahera8949 it doesn't need to blow the tank up, just take its engine out as this one did. All that white smoke = serious engine problems. Not to mention, your position will be amplified for all to see, so, the use of terrain to hide is gone. This tank is effectively neutralized save for its immediate vicinity
Plus, we **have** seen footage of tanks being blown to bits with well-placed drone-dropped munitions/grenades. It just take one of those shells to detonate before the whole tank goes
It was my 149 gram drone!
But but but what about the Ukrainian artillery won't get the glory then...

It's actually great that the tank moves after the hit in my opinion. This means we can be absolutely sure there were living RuSSians inside. They are definitely not the same after the hit.
I bet their ears will be ringing for a month.
The driver is in the front - the guys in the back may not feel as comfortable.

@@dszubert It is just a thick tin can. I am sure that the driver have heard (and felt) it quite well too. Their confidence definitely have dropped from 100 to a single digit.

I know, but the track is off on the right side so they're not going anywhere Albert 😉

I'm thinking RPG -- isn't the right track broken loose?
That's sure gonna hurt, might not have destroyed the tank but looks like the right side tracks have come off⚠️😲😳
Indeed. It's at least a mobility kill.
If the artillery hit directly on top like that, it's not likely to damage the track.
Most likely that's the tank pulling up loose dirt because it's backing up so fast
imagine tightly sitting in metal can and 155mm high explosive ammunition hits you at super sonic speed and bends 100mm+ armor, and you sit like 20cm from walls and your head is touching soviet era tank's ceiling
@@alexsiniov one hell of a headache if anything !
@@ZaraTheFemboy No, the track right side damaged. Can happen even a tank is parking. I have seen it some times. Parking a tank, and next day track is fall off. This tank get a hit, and a weak part of the track failed. Usually a quick fix, but under fire it is to nerve-breaking replacing one of those many thin bolts keeping the track together on the running-wheels, so i guess they abandoned this tank and seek cover, just waiting until they might can repair it. Every track divided in small sections with a bolt between each of those sections for keeping them together. And it is many of this bolts.. This bolts will normally be replaced after a certain period, or else they will often fail. I understand maintanance russian equipment is not the best, so i bet this bolts on russian tanks are not replaced for years.
Slava Ukraina!!!Beat occupants!!!
That's definitely not an artillery. It looks like a loitering drone munition. Artillery would have caused more explosion after a direct hit.
RKG grenade dropped by drone
Was gonna say artillery would be noticeable when incoming and the explosion would be more destructive. Took off it's right track though so still effective, just need to go in and clean up the trash afterwards.
@@IAmThe_RA No that wasn’t

@@danielm.595 And replacing a track is not that difficult. On US tanks the crew is expected to do this on their own. If that were a US tank - 'recover tank' battle drill would immediately begin. “Artillery” in the loose sense. Something from actual artillery would’ve spread it over the entire neighbourhood.
Depends if they only shot one round which is highly unlikely but then again Ukraine are fighting unconventionally
This design is very innovative in the tank structure and works really well in the battlefield. If the tank takes a powerful hit, the turret is self launched and propelled from the main body, then is commisioned and controled remotely by the Russian airforce. You do not manage to subjugate Ukraine, but threaten the whole NATO. Also there you will fail. Unless you are even more stupid and use nuclear weapons. But be sure, that is also your end. The only thing that is really sad about it is that states that can't do anything about it will also go down.
Something important to know, for all who are interested in history and/or support Ukraine:
Rus’ ought not to be confused with “Russia”, which derives its name from the Rus’ but historically is a completely different state, which almost all its existence was at war with the Rus’.
Just like the Holy Roman Empire was actually Germany, Russia is actually Muscovy, despite their best attempts to convince everybody otherwise.
Its name “Russia" received only in 1721, when Peter I passed a decree to change Tsardom of Muscovy’s name into the “Russian” Empire (“Russia” originates from Rosia, name used by the Greek Orthodox Clergy in regards to Kyivan Rus')
Under the reign of Cathrine II Muscovites where even pushed for continuing to identify as Muscovites, and where forced to call themselves “Russian”.
Lands that “Russia” claims were part of the original Rus’, but actually weren't, are Novgorod, Suzdal, and Ryazan, since in historical texts of XI-XII centuries they are mentioned as separate entities from Rus’. They can be considered parts of extended Rus’, although their culture was distinct from main Rus’.
In 1493 Moscow prince Ivan III appointed himself to be the Great Ruler of All Rus’. No other kings acknowledged that. From that point on Muscovy started to make false claims on Rus’ ownership.
“Russia” is an offshoot of Ukraine and not the other way round, despite what Soviet and “Russian” historians have been trying to say for years. Kiev was a developed cultured capital when Moscow was just another swamp village.
Germany used to call itself the Holy Roman Empire, that didn’t mean they became the Romans, and all of a sudden had a right to claim whole of Italy and its history, but yet, that’s exactly what “Russia” did in regards to Rus’-Ukraine, which is a horrible injustice!
Mortar more like.
An artillery shell from above would have gone through, thinner armour.
If that was a heavy artillery shell; that turret should be in orbit by now
😞Artillery hit!? Directly on a tank that can still move like nothing happened? Sorry, as much as I would love to beleive this, I cant. Artillery fire would have been much more devastating and the tank wouldn't even move after a direct hit... To the least, the driver would have been knocked out... The tank wouldn't move for sure... It most likely was a backfire from its old Lada engine ...
