I moved last year and I remembered to take a piece of my rhubarb plant with me. It's growing here at new place. Be couple years before I'll have enough for pie. My Mom made rhubarb sauce with me growing up and we ate some raw in are hands with sugar... great memories Thanks
We have 3 rhubarb plants growing in our garden. I've made pies, of course, but also sauce & jam. A rhubarb sandwich? Yep. Yummm. Put some of the sauce in turnovers for a treat, too.
My Mom used to cook down rhubarb with sugar and we ate it plain and over vanilla ice cream. We liked it so much that we had a calico cat that was real special that we named her Ruhbarb! Her partner in crime was our fox terrier called Ginger Dog. They were great pals. Grew up on Lake Micigan and both would go to the beach with us and also went on vacation with us. What wonderful memories! Thanks.
When I lived in Westport, Massachusetts we had a rhubarb plant, I use to make a strawberry 🍓 rhubarb pie, it was delicious thank you for reminding me of those days! Love your videos! I like how you lay out all your ingredients first! Thank you!
My mother, who passed away a few months back, made the BEST rhubarb pie!!! I loved it when she made it, which she did at least once every rhubarb season, she knew it was my favorite pie. I’m struggling because I want to make one, but I know mine will not be as good as my momma’s. But boy oh boy is rhubarb pie incredible!!! ❤
Oh my goodness. It’s the middle of the night here and I’m sleepless, came to visit y’all and treat myself to your company and some great recipes. I was nearly in tears when I found the rhubarb pie. My mom used to make them when I was a kid but I hadn’t even heard of them in 50 years. What a nice memory you triggered-thank you. And now that you’ve given me the instructions I’m going to make it my business to locate some rhubarb and make some pies. Thank you for letting me sit at your table. ❤ ❤
We love having you at our table and it really touches our heart to hear that you've connected with a nice memory of your mom making this pie! Thank you so much for watching our channel. We really appreciate it.
Mymom used to make old fashioned rhubarb pie and cobbler. Way back there was no Pillsbury pie crusts. She even grew a long row of rhubarb in her garden.
I've had rhubard pie in my younger childhood years and into my teens. My great grandma, moms grandma, grew her own and made pie with it. I like the way your do your crust around the edge. It makes it look more ... decorative.
We are in the northern tier of the US, so rhubarb grows very easy here and very plentiful. Besides pie we enjoy rhubarb crisp, rhubarb sauce and rhubarb scones are so good. We absolutely love rhubarb!!
You’re fortunate to get it easily. It’s been a bit of a search this year to locate it in central Kentucky. Stores that do carry it have trouble keeping it in stock. Apparently it’s been very popular this year.
I love rhubarb!! I've used it in chutney and other savory sauces. My great grandmother made an rhubarb pie with an oatmeal crust and topped with meringue. It was delicious! I have the original recipe from 1920.
I love Rhubarb pie. My Mama fixed Rhubarb pies a lot when I was little. It's been at least 50 years or more since I saw here make one,but I seem to recall that she cooked the rhubarb in a big pot on our Coal and Wood Range.
My mom use to make custard rhubarb pie too or even rhubarb crisp. So delicious!!! She’d even added a package of strawberry jello (dry ) to it to give it a different taste. Every pie she made was so delicious!!! Sure do miss those days .
Up here it grows like a weed, in fact a lot of people treat it like a weed. It grows fast and in big huge bunches. You almost can’t kill it with a stick (lol). I love rhubarb pie and I like to make rhubarb crisp. Not sure if you have it but we can get frozen rhubarb in our grocery store. It’s a pretty sour thing but when prepared correctly is amazing. Add it to an apple pie and with strawberries in a pie. The latter is delicious and pretty well available up here in Alberta. Just as an fyi you can use corn starch or rice flour or other starches. I use corn starch in mine. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
We had a rhubarb patch in the backyard. Mom made rhubarb pies, sauce, and dump cakes. We'd cut off the leaf and put a little bit of sugar in our hands, and we walked around thinking we were so special, eating our rhubarb in hand, because not everyone had a patch. Lol, the pucker was real 😂❤
I have not had rhubarb pie, it is nearly impossible to find in grocery store anymore. When I was much younger, we had some rhubarb growing in a small patch, I would wash it and take a salt shaker and eat a stalk. The tart and salty was so good, I also like tart green apples with salt. Your pie is beautiful.
Thank you. We appreciate the nice comment. We did find rhubarb at our local Kroger store but we heard other people having a harder time finding it this year. Have a great day!
my Mom and I used to make rhubarb pies all the time for my dad and I. problem is Mom passed away from dementia and couldn't remember how to make one and since it was just me and her making them before she got dementia I couldn't make dad any cos she never wrote out the recipe. thank you so so so much for doing this video as your recipe is exactly like hers so I can finally make some rhubarb pies again. I love them so much and we have rhubarb that grows wild in my back yard so I cut it every year and freeze it to make pies with it. thank you so much for this recipe it is so appreciated. God bless you.
I made several recipe versions of rhubarb pie. some have egg flour, cornstarch, or tapioca. Most mix with strawberry, I've mixed in peaches, raspberries or blueberries. Strawberry is my personal favorite in with the rhubarb pie. My grandmother made this for us when we were kids. I'll be making this tomorrow.
That looked good, here (in England) when I was growing up every garden had a Rhubarb patch because it is easy to grow and has a longer season than most other veg. You tend to find that after about 5-8 seasons it starts to go wooden, so you have to replace the plant. If it has been a good plant use it's own seed pods to grow the next plant. We used it a lot, including eating it straight out of the garden dipping the end in sugar. If your viewers are nervous of trying it, an easy place to experiment with Rhubarb is as a stew that you can use as a side for ice cream or a fruit salad. Just stew it as you would a cooking apple, with sugar and a spice if you want it that way.
Thank you so much for those tips you've shared with everyone for rhubarb! That was really nice of you to do that! We appreciate that you watched our video!
My favourite pie. Up north of the border we make strawberry rhubarb pie. I prefer just rhubarb. Your pie looked fantastic. I wish I were at your table.
Oh my goodness you don't know how happy you have made me watching you ☺ make this Rhubarb pie. My Mom use to bake these when I was a little girl is my favorite pie. I grew up in Oklahoma and we had Rhubarb in our garden. Has been a great many year's since I had this could never find the recipe this one you have made was just like my Mom's. Thank you Tom and Melissa for bringing back some wonderful memories. Like I can almost smell it now when I got home from school it has honestly brought tears to my eyes. Thanks again and God Bless the two of you and your family as well. HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
We are so happy to read this! We love that food connects us to sweet memories and your story just confirms this for us. Thanks for sharing it with us. We sure hope you can make this recipe yourself sometime soon. Have a wonderful evening and a blessed holiday season.
What is rhubarb? I’ve heard of it for years just never had it here in the south. I use the pillsbury pie crusts too. They are just as good as homemade. So why go to the trouble? Someone mentioned on the potato cakes video that they like your channel bc of how you set all ingredients out. I like it for that reason as well plus I like that you are so informative and careful. Like the size that you slice onions and bell pepper as an example. I like that. I like detail in everything. It’s especially important with cooking. So is cleanliness. You get all that here on your channel and it’s appreciated. I think it’s also why your channel is so popular and getting more so. So people, let’s get busy and help this channel grow even bigger! They deserve it!
I haven't had Rhubarb pie since I was a kid in Maine. Our neighbors had it growing in their yard...they would let us kids help ourselves to it. We would get a little dixie cup filled with sugar to dip it in when we ate it. Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me here today. Your pie looks delicious!!
I am 74 years old, and I remember my grandmother had rubarb in her garden, she used to make rubarb sauce which we would eat on ice cream or maybe pancakes, it was delicious. I remember she would cook it in a sauce pan on the stove, there is probally recipies on you tube.
I’m from Kentucky too and my mom and grandmother made this pie and rhubarb dumplings ❤ delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this 🥧 pie! I feel brave enough to make it now 🥰
I'm from KY also and I absolutely love rhubarb pie! My mom used to make pies, cobbler's and rhubarb dumplings and they all were delicious. I make a rhubarb cheesecake and bar's that are so good I could eat them every day. I make my pies a little less sweet than you do but your pie looks delicious. Rhubarb is a fantastic food and I love to eat it anyway you fix it even raw. Don't just stop at pie!
My grandmother grew Rhubarb in Michigan. Loved her Rhubarb pie. And her Rhubarb bread pudding . She used nuteg instead of cinnamon and topped it with a vannila glaze. 🦇🥧
Strawberry Rubarb Pie is the best!! Love your Channel! Mom made both. I've never made cream puffs but remember them from childhood. My Aunt made them several times I remember with the fillings vanilla, chocolate and also banana pudding. Very good channel, whether you're a guy or gal...new to cooking or not...recipes we can all use. Thank You and God Bless You Both.
My mother-in-law used to make a Strawberry Rhubarb pie. She thought it was my husband's favorite. He hated rhubarb, but he eat a piece anyway, so she never knew how much he disliked that pie.
I have a mennonite recipe for "Rhubarb Crunch Cake" from my Mennonite Cookbook. Made with red jello and walnuts/brown sugar/cinnamon crunch layer...yummy
My aunt always makes a jello salad with raspberry jello and rhubarb. It also had pineapple and pecans in it. I love that salad. The pie looks really good and I will have to give it a try.
Do you happen to have a recipe that you could ask her for and a name what it is called. That combination sounds fantastic and that it would be great together. If you could share it that would be so heavenly and thank you very much. Have a beautiful day. I am from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin 🎉 🎉 ❤ 😊 😊
My Dad loves rhubarb pie, especially strawberry rhubarb, but I've never tried it. Your pie looks very delicious & beautiful. Anyone would be honored to have a pie made by you. Thanks to you & your lovely wife.
Also you can make rhubarb crisp or crunch. Both are made like Apple crisp or crunch i like to top it off with either vanilla ice cream or sour cream if you don't want to add to the sweetness of ice cream. If you haven't tried these yet please do they are great.😊
Another of my cousins had a rhubarb patch that I thought was huge. He gave me several stalks. I love to eat it raw , dipping it into salt in my hand. Very tart. Mmmmm! These are my Nebraska cousins. I have not seen rhubarb in any stores here in Texas. Wish I could find some.
Do you ever add strawberries to the recipe, and if so, how much do you add. I tried strawberry rhubarb pie for the first time 3 days ago. My husband has always talked about his aunts strawberry rhubarb pie but he doesn't have the recipe and I would love to surprise him by making it. I'm so glad that I found your channel ❤❤
I have.never made a rhubarb pie but I ate my share and then some when my mom was alive to make them. It was my understanding that strawberry rhubarb was a variety of the plant; with smaller, redder stalks and not as tart. But I could be wrong about that.
I haven't had Rhubarb pie since I was a teenager. My aunt made strawberry Rhubarb pie. I liked it but you are right it is very tart. Enjoyed your video ❤
I've had a rhubarb and strawberry pie which was very tart. I've also had English rhubarb & custard hard candies. Its easy to get here in California. What's hard for me to get are green tomatoes. I've never had fried green tomatoes and the closest place that serves them is an hour away. Shrimp & grits is pretty hard to get here as well.
We are having fried green tomatoes tomorrow! We'll post a video for them but I'm so sorry it's hard for you to get them. We bought ours at the local Farmer's Market. They look very good. Thank you for the comment. We really appreciate you watching our video.
Strawberry rhubarb pie is delicious
Mother would sweeten and cook it and we ate it on buttered homemade biscuits! Grew up in Lincoln County, Ky.
It's gorgeous looking pie
Yes, it is a beautiful looking pie

It’s a beautiful pie!
I think you did an excellent job on that crust
Knott's Berry Farm always has cooked rhubarb with cherry as a side dish to their famous fried chicken. Love it.
Such a beautiful pie, Tom. I'm so glad that you sprinkled the top with sugar.
Whata beautiful looking pie! Even before it is baked.😋🤤😋
Thank you 😋 We really appreciate that you're watching.

In New England we will use strawberries in the pie to help with the tartness
Also you can make rhubarb crisp or crunch. Both are made like Apple crisp or crunch i like to top it off with either vanilla ice cream or sour cream if you don't want to add to the sweetness of ice cream. If you haven't tried these yet please do they are great.😊
