- A simple little video to test out the new #Shorts feature on RUclips. Some of you will be well used to my Reels on Instagram. Let me know what you think, should I keep these shorter format videos on my other platforms? Or would you like to see them on here too?
This video shows how I glaze my coffee cups in my dark green crackle glaze. At the end you'll see how they appear once reduction fired up to 1295ºc, (2363ºF).

Finally, someone who doesn’t put crappy music, commentary to satisfy attention spans, etc. over something peaceful and creative like this. Thank you for sharing and props for fitting the entire glazing process into a Short. :)

I love how the glaze is red but when it's fired it looks SO different.
A lot of glazes are like that, and I used to get super freaked out that it somehow wouldn't match the color it was supposed to be once I fired a piece.
(It always did, I was just an idiot kid with anxiety.)
I'm guessing that they fired this glaze in a reduction kiln. In a reducing environment, where oxygen is low, the flames will actually rip out oxygen from the iron oxide in the glaze, changing it from a red color to a blue-green. If you fire that same glaze in a normal kiln, it would probably be a red or dark brown color.
Good
@@paperspiders8893 wow-
i'd also look pretty different if i was fired
Damn thats a lot of ketchup
🤣🤣😂😂😂
😂😂

That's blood...
stop it☹️he ran out of mustard😢😢😢
I miss high school. I had art as an elective and my art teach had access to the old pottery room and she'd let me go in there during lunch or even stay a couple hours after school there. The class wasn't up and running since the old teacher had retired. Although when he'd substitute we'd go in there(that's how it all started). The clay was old and dry, he showed me how to revive it by adding water day by day. We also had a kiln in there and was able to make a few things which was awesome because it was around Christmas and i was broke atm, so i at least gave me family something at least. I'm a very impatient person, but this made me be patient, it showed me a few things other than just making dishes and all. I can spend hours on this if i had the chance too, although I'm not so good.
❤
Imagine the disaster of just dropping the whole entire shelf of red cups? Actually don’t think of it
He's dropped like a dozen bowls once
@@Setixir
Fortunately those were unfired so he could reclaim the clay.
Imagine spilling a whole bucket of glaze 😳
I Imagined and I can't sleep now. Thanks😡
@@ragnkja Can the clay still be reclaimed if it's been glazed?
Florian I love watching your videos! Even this short one. I myself am a newer potter (been practicing just over 2 years) and am always looking for awesome mentors to inspire me. I am so glad I found your channel and really look forward to your content.
Thanks Heidi, so pleased you liked it. I've got lots more to come so I'm glad to have you aboard 🙌🏼

Glazing pottery is a true art. I have a few simple pots where the glaze is utterly beautiful. This is a great skill, especially in Japan.
I love such arts
The sage green color is just gorgeous 💚.
It’s so hard to edit this long process and make it 30 seconds. Good Job👌🏽
They look a lot like the cups we had in the restaurant.
They were also handmade.
Glaze is so interesting. Definitely goes on a different colour than what it comes out as when cooked. ❤
I cannot express how much I love this with just a comment, your gonna have to restock soon :)
So beautiful. I have always liked pottery and I actually wanna start doing it.
I would love to have a mug!! I drink Coffee ☕ nite and day 24/7 😁
You should totally do more of these! The sounds are so relaxing 😌
Glazing is the most interesting part for me.
I wish I enjoyed it as much as I like throwing and trimming pots-it always feels like a bit of a slog for me but at least it's the last step in the process then they can finally be fired in the kiln.
I am also a craftsman. I like the process of glazing and the process of taking my creative work out of the oven. I wish you good luck in your master work. 👍🔥
That colour bruv!!
Can’t lie I really like the colour of the cups
Hey, been digging through your channel. It’s soothing content and I’m learning a lot. I’m always curious to ask people, especially artists, what their favorite book is or a book they’re very fond of and was wondering if you would care to share? Looking forward to your next video. Hoping you’ll restock your online shop soon. Wanted to order something for my moms bday but looks like it might have to wait til Christmas (no pressure).
The sonds in this video are so relaxing. I wish more people would do videos like this.
Beautiful glaze and cups, thank you for sharing.
Dang, that turned out great!
No nonsense, pure stuff
Woah, the result looks so pretty!
This could be asmr I love seeing the pottery get made and it’s so satisfying even when it’s bloopers I love this so much keep up the amazing work!
Please keep this up. On god this at least slightly satisfies my want to create ceramics.
it's so quiet. and peaceful.
i like it.
This man puts a lot of work and dedication to his art and I respect that
Sometimes I wish I could do that but I'm so damn clumsy and would probably break things
I can imagine the scent and the temperature of the coffee by just looking at your pottery. Great artwork!
That so was calming to watch
I just love everything related to mud , soil, sand, and much more like these ❣️
I want one of everything of your masterpieces please
A tea 🍵 in that cup would be wonderful
i just wanna say "wooowww" 💖
Your consistency is impressive
Woah that was so satisfying
Beautiful!!
that is so pretty
Wow pretty!!!
I am obsessed with the natural red color of the clay and glaze. Would you ever consider doing red pieces instead of the blue?
Ur vids r satisfying
how do you cover the bottom of the mugs so that there is no glaze left on it?
One word: Beautiful
Man I miss Potter in high school so satisfying
Fabulous!
Complimenti sei bravissimo❤ hanno un bellissimo design molto ricercato le tue ceramiche❤grazie x condividere la tua arte

I love that glaze
So Satisfying
That is beautiful!
Sooooo beautyyyyy
Ugh I miss having ceramics at school
I seriously wanna learn
I don't suppose you would share that glaze recipe with us? :D
@Richard Aubergine thats such a jerk off answer
It's just a tomato glaze - and that's a real cheap finish. Nothing special.
Wonderful !
Many thanks!
How long do you wait for them to dry before touching up the marks?
Curious as a new student. Thanks!
Kat
Just as long as it takes. In my relatively cold studio it can take 1-3 days before they're fully dry but it not also depends on that but also the chemical make-up of the glaze itself.
Hard work but beautiful results.
This is awesome, I always wanted to do pottery 1 of my many interests
I really want to learn pottery and be creative like you❤
It's beautiful
So that's how you make your wonderful works of clay 😍
Have you posted any clear glazes with this same claystock? So curious what the "natural" color is after final glazefiring. That said, the bluegreen crackle is my favorite, nice choice. (Also love ivory speckle glazes...they both, the bluegreen and ivory, seem to have a certain restorative emotional quality that fits well with the artform.)
Does the red clay turn into that blue at the end after it dries? Or is it painted? That last color looks really cool!
What a talent I loved 💯😁
Will you show us the processes of making and explantation of painting colors is
Ehat I love is that glaze wont be red anymore once it's out of the kiln
I love my mugs glazed in tomato soup
When you're expecting the outcome to be reddish brown. Turns out it's the opposite 🟦🟩
Those two colors tho-
It's because of the way the cups were fired. They were likely fired in a kiln where the oxygen was very low. One that happens the flame will actually rip out oxygen from the iron oxide in the glaze. This changes the color from a red to a green/blue color. If you fired that same glaze in a normal kiln, that glaze would probably be a red or a dark brown. You can look up reduction glazes on Google and see what I mean.
Imagine if the thing holding the cups up just...fell...I would cry
beautiful 🎉
Orange=blue
Mindblown
Hello Florian, thanks for yours videos! what kind of wax do you use? I try with hot paraffin but it's make some granules when I but on my pieces...same phenomen with wax for the furniture (sorry for my English)
Your pieces are soo amazing, where can I purchase them? 💜💗
This is nice
I miss throwing pottery, I did hate reaching in to mix the glaze for some reason it always creeper me out
The qualitea
I don’t know why but I feel like dunking my face in that glaze
Damn..i need this in my house
I thought those catch up for a second and I was extremely concerned
Siento que este sera mi futuro trabajo 🤩
Hello Florian, do you make the glazes and muds yourself or do you use ready-made glazes?
I purchase the clay bodies from various suppliers and mix my own materials into them. As for my glazes, I mix them entirely from scratch in my studio.
@@floriangadsby Thank you 🙏
Está muy bueno lo que hacés 😃😀
Dude imagine if you accidently placed the wooden board and something caused it to fall and made the bottom ones fall too
How does that glossy shine comes?
Thank you
I've always been taught crackle is not good safe. How do you avoid any issues?
Sooo satiyfing
how do they make it so the glaze coats the rest of the cup but not the bottom?
The bottom of the mug has wax emulsion coated on, so the glaze can't adhere to that part and simply runs off.
Awesome I want this type of cups how to order please tell me 😍
My skin got TV static when he rubbed the pot with his finger.
My inner wish of them attaining the glaze color n not the green color 😢
I know next to nothing about pottery, so this may be a stupid question but: is there a reason the glaze isn’t applied to the bottom of the cup?
I'm just wondering has a shelf ever fallen or have you ever just accidentally broken a bunch of sculpts. If you have can you reuse them and turn them back into clay in any way. Just wondering
This whole time I thought the pots themselves were red
