That’s not accurate without having Constantinapole/Byzantium/Istanbul in the ranking. The original city was always in Europe, it extended to the Asian side administratevely during modern Turkey.
Originally, Turkey is also Christian.
@@1158supersiri No it wasn’t, hundreds years ago that land was ruled by Roman Empire until Turks conquered. It wasn’t called Turkey. This data is about cities geographically in Europe which Istanbul is. Your remark makes no sense
@@St4rBoy_ I refuse to spell it like that. I speak english, no other word in the english language has spelling like that and if it did it would be three syllables. Also, fuck erdogan
@@cemdo9292 presumably they're referring to anatolia
True. Also where is Thessaloniki, Genoa, Massalia, Trieste etc. In Pax Romana times a lot of big Roman Cities are missing as well.
It took 1800 years to restore the population of Rome. Just amazed how Roman Empire was great in its golden age
Baghdad reached population higher then Rome 300 years after Rome fall but ofcourse you only know about European history.
@@kingmaker2603maybe because we are european and prefer our history?
@@leuxemio27363 He said it took 1800 years to restore population of Rome that is a factually incorrect statement.
There is nothing wrong with preferring your history but be factual.
@@kingmaker2603 isnt it a fact? Do u see any city surpassing Rome before 1800 years? Dont get me wrong. I am talking about the video.
@@leuxemio27363 the guy made a statement above that it took 1800 years for a city to pass the population of rome I pointed out that it was a false statement.
What are you talking about ?
Yep, that correct. 90% of all cities spontaneously began existing all in 1957. How did you know?
they all just got built in one year weirdly...
Stats are incomplete: Florence reached 70.000 around 1200 and 100.000 around 1300
I always heard Rome had 1 million people during it's peak
It's debunked now
In greater Rome under Marcus Aurelius it did reach 1 million
unrealistic , excludes information , doesnt have istambul
Uhm . . . does the creator of this video have something against Vienna??
I think the creator just offended all of Austria. Vienna was firmly in the top 5 from the 1700s through the beginning of the 20th century.
I thought West Midlands was an area, not a city???
I just took it meant Birmingham
I'm pretty sure that Vienna was bigger than Palermo at some point
Thank you for sharing!
Athens and Lisbon are the oldest cities in Europe would like to visit Athens Lisbon is the best city I have been , just unbelievable
I guess many data are missing, right?

Constantinople is.

Asia
Condition of London is due to India
No its not indian
List is lacking a lot of cities, used database is useless.
If anyone is wondering why Istanbul suddenly disappeared after 1926 and made a come back after 1959, here is a simple explanation. France, the UK, Russia, Italy, Greece and their allies the Serbs, the Arabs and Armenians fiercely attacked the Ottoman Turks between 1914 and 1918 (WWI). Having lost over 3m lives, the Ottoman sultan had to surrender to the Western Powers. As part of his deal with the UK and France, he tried to silence his own people who did not wish to be ruled by western powers. (Yes, Istanbul was occupied by the UK, and the rest of modern Türkiye by Italy, Greece and France). During the occupation period, Turkish families who survived the western powers were eitherkilled or escaped and were forced to leave their homes for rural towns in Anatolia...Eventually, the Turks rose up against their sultan and the western powers (incl those who came from NZ and AUS) under the leadership of Atatürk and declared the Turkish Independence War (1919-1923). Only after 1923, the Turks regained their independence but they also lost millions more lives. Within the old empire's borders an estimated 8 million of Turks lost their lives between 1914 and 1923. This is the main reason why Istanbul's (and other capital cities') population dwindled.
When the new Turkish Republic was finally established in 1923, there were no teachers, no doctors, no architects, no schools, no hospitals, no factories in the country. Many people, mostly children and women had become homeless; unempleyment and hunger were widespread across the country. So, the Turks had to start from scratch. Just as they thought things were getting better, the second world war broke out...
Constantinople/istanbul is a European city. Major mistake on the video.
It’s both but it’s mainly in Europe like the town hall is in Europe
I mean it’s in both
For a place to be a continent, it must be surrounded by water on all four sides. Europe is not a continent. It is the western part of Asia. Türkiye is also on the Asian continent, but barbarian Europe does not like Turks.
You removed turkey from the map 😕

Doesnt seem very accurate to add places with huge populations like Hamburg only in 1963. Like the population of the 10th most populated city went from 500k to 2million in a year isnt true
Also classifying West Midlands as one single city
Vienna????
