After watching this video I mounted my gatorskins on 420 american classics rims. I'm the least experienced tire repair guy in our group and I always end up watching the guys change out my tube. Only had to use tire irons the last 8". My group would be surprised I did it quickly by myself. Thanks for this video I feel a little more confident now. Hope I remember!
The video was cut when the guy fingered them onto the wheel. I have the exact same wheel with the exact same tyre and I can't do anything to push it onto the rim. The manual says you can do it without any tools but I call bullshit on that one. That's what I get for trying new things.
Just fitted a pair of ultra sport III tyres to a Carrera wheel. It took me half hour, both hands, both legs, a pair of tyre levers and a sofa for leverage. So glad I wasn't on the side of the road with a flat.
Continental owes me 3 inner tubes (at least) trying to mount the gatorskins. Y'all really should provide a special tool for this. I've never had this problem with any other tires.
Continental would serve it's customers well by providing video instruction on how to; a) install a new Gatorskin Hardshell on a wheel b) remove same to repair a flat while on the road. They're great tires, but very difficult to get on/off. Any advise or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Dan Conrad I find it best to yell loudly at the tyre, then get a taxi home. Fortunately I've never had a puncture on it while out riding, but after a plane journey - it kept pinching the tyre when I tried to reinflate, so I ended up binning it and getting a GP4000 instead
I have Continental GP 5000 tires and now carry some Dawn liquid detergent in a zip lock baggie, Cool Stop tire bead jack, extra powdered tube and textured rubber grip gloves to avoid calling Uber when I flat. Next tires are gonna be Pirelli's as they are much easier to get on.
I finally bought a "KoolStop tire jack" and it saved me tubes and my hands installing these tires!! My hands/fingers are much to old and weak to do these Hardshell by hand. I strap it to the bike just incase I get a flat on road. Great tires though.
+Carl Conn Due to the production process, tires as well as rims are subjected to certain production tolerances (even if they are very low). In some cases it might happen, that you catch a combination with a rim of the higher range and a tire of the smaller. Then it needs more force to get on the tire. Kind regardsContinental Reifen Deutschland GmbH"
Hello, due to different combinations between rim and tyre manufacturers as well as slight production tolerances of both, a more difficult mounting is possible in individual cases. Based on the general valid standards, the tire shall fit properly anyhow. If you are not able to mount it by any means, please contact us directly under rekla.fahrrad@conti.de
I tried many techniques, metal tyre levers etc. When you finally get the tyre on, it has a high chance of pinching the tube and making you have to redo it all anyway. Avoid.
I seem to be having just the opposite problem. Mine seems a good deal too small. I removed an old dry rotted 26X1 3/4" and replacing with GatorSkin 26X1 1/8", so technically, there shouldn't be a noticeable difference. But it's like putting a 20" kids bike tire on a 29er. 🤯
@@zzubuzz somehow when I read it it just made good sense to me and I am not surprised on the source of this information.. thank you for sharing it ! 👍😁
This video is BS. Continental tyres are the worst to get on the rims. The amount of flats I've had just trying to get the tyre over the rim is unbelievable. Avoid!
Ruined a Mavic Open Pro UST Disc rim (laced with a Chris King rear hub, red Sapim CX-Ray spokes & anodised nipples in alternating colours) in attempts to install a bloody Continental Sport Ultra II. A shit tyre. No wonder it's affordable.

Continental this is not how your tires go on. At least not Gatorhardshell. Just broke my lever on it. Show a challenging mount.

me too and I gave up

So if you use 'Continental' tyre levers the tyre goes on as if by magic..... 🙄
Yep,they are the only magical levers on the market...just say "abracadabra" while mounting and voila !😁🤣😅
He did it bare hand the first time lol

who doesn't have soap lying around on a 120k ride?

So where in that video was the beaded tire demo?
great video. watched it and did mine myself. thanks
Thank you so much just fitted my tyre back on. 😊
Ultra race fitted 👌
excellent video, thank you
Agreed - please show a video with the Gatorskin - with rigid tyre; very tough to get on and off. Tyre levers do not crack it. Please advise.

my Tyre levers actually cracked trying to put this tire on

I had to return them. The idea of spending half the day by the road side changing them if I get a puncture was too scary

Hi continental. I bought a gatorskin folding tyre and it is far too big for my rim bit dimensions are correct. What's goimg on?
Mine are too freakin small. Lol

Apply talcum powder it helps lubricate it
another vid using a nice easy tyre to get on...
nice quality product
Thanks you
I llways use allot of talcum powder on the tube and also inside of the tire which helps it seat well and also prevents pinch flats and dry rot.
Good to know ,I'll try that out next time
@@jpoupon66 Yeah, didn't make this up myself, a long time bike mechanic told me this a few decades ago.

Something is EXTREMELY OFF from what I'm experiencing. Seriously off. That looks so simple.
Useless when you're looking for folding tire information.

No body teaches you to push the valve up so that way the tube stays in the tire
Yeah right - let's see a video of him installing Ultra Sport II without going postal
Installing continental tyres just with the hands? 🤣 I wish I would be able to do that.
Literally impossible to install.
There is no way you can get Continentals on without assistance..... maybe The Six Million Dollar Man can do it with only his hands. Of course he can.
Coming to the point where I won’t buy Continental tires. Hard to get on and when on they are wonky.
Lol if only it was that easy! Avoid people, avoid!

Nope, this is not what happens at all.
That's a foldable tire not a bead tire smh
Do not buy this tyre! It’s impossible to put on, I’ve broken 3 tyre levers and 2 metal knives and it’s still not on!
Lol he he ha ha 😂 x
So true
