I've been doing archery since well before you were born, young lady, and that was one of the best archery introduction discourse I have ever heard. All useful information without the fluff. Safety first and covered all the basics to build upon. 10/10
this is actually a very good video. I do archery BUT I HAD FORGOTTEN these simple safety tips, I am embarrassed to say. I recently injured myself in a minor way. THANK YOU for this video. We should never take for granted the simple and "everyday " manor we begin our Archery adventures. Remember the arrows can be deadly if not used properly. THANK YOU Mz. Lilly.
Bow shooting has always been my first love at five I've been in love for a long time. This past year I've had a left shoulder and neck injury. I'm recovering but with pain. Exercises help a lot. Looking forward to a little warmer weather. I'm far from to old to stop shooting. I'm only 64.
I used to shoot a Bow about 50 years ago but not anymore. Lilly has a Lot of good Safety and Accuracy Tips here many of which I never even thought about back in the day. Very Informative video .
That was fast. It was very quick. You might consider making an archery basic series of perhaps eight episodes: equipment, safety, stance, draw, loose, etc.
while alot of your advice is spot on. I would add that another way to draw your bow is from the ground up. By using the push/pull method, which allows for using more of your back and stomach muscles and not just relying on your arm strength. As well as it being a safer method to draw if accidentally released the arrow goes into the ground than somewhere you would rather it didnt go. All other advice you gave is spot on. Just remember the draw I mentioned helps Archers that are not as strong to pull a heavier bow with proper technique. Thank you for this video and Happy New Year.
@ approx 13mins; Lily, stretching exercises prior to training/ shooting, is almost imperative! I can appreciate what you are trying to do for, all of Humanity. The ability to accurately launch an arrow, at this point in history, is sadly, waining.😢!
I enjoyed the bow when I was young. I didn't know what I was doing but didn't care. I was standing in front of a wall about as big as you backdrop shot a arrow and missed the whole wall. It wall the last time I shot a bow. Looks like I could had used a lesson or two from you. Thank You
Hi, thank you for this video! I'm glad you made mention of injury's. Your shooting is great dispite your injury. I to shoot with a physical handicap, but I'm fond of my recurve bow & arrows. Thank you Lilly!
Lily, Happy New Year! Keep doing your thing! And I'm sorry that your government, currently, is being less than desirable. I'm hoping that your European viewers have retained the information/ knowledge that you have provided, and can then use it to their advantage. Also, it has motivated me to tune up my bows and get back to refining my archery skills! Thank you, and God bless!
Hi Lilly. I've been following your channel for several years now and I have been practicing archery for 45 years. After watching this video I would have to say that I agree with everything you said about safety and about shooting the bow. There are many people who have been shooting a bow for a few years and try to teach archery but they still don't quite understand some things and therefor, they get some of it wrong in their videos. You don't have that problem. Also, It looks like your release is good as well. You are not flinging your hand open to release the arrow, just as you talked about. Well done.
Love your channel, Lilly :-) For what it's worth, my suggestion would be a takedown version of a short asiatic bow rather than the bulky olympic-style recurve. You only need a thumb ring/leather protector (no need for gloves and arm bracers etc) and you can hold several arrows in your draw hand - less noticeable movement than reaching from a quiver. Also the smaller asiatic bows are lighter and easier to use in confined/stealth shooting spots. Granted, the downside is that it takes more practice with these bows than a centre-shot bows. A minor point for a survival bow, I would consider fletching some arrows with waterproof vanes rather than natural feathers (I still prefer feather though!) Keep up the great channel and good luck with your new store 😁 👍
Great basic safety advice. I love 3D archery though in the UK I use firearms for hunting. I’ve been shooting a bow for almost three years, 38 Lb recurve is enough for me at 65 years old.
Great video lilly, I hope I look as stylish when I'm shooting, you've got a great archery technique, no wonder you are so accurate, best wishes for this year.
I came back to archery after retiring from it 12 years before. I had quit it from frustration on part of how my dad treated me with it (didn’t do it the right way) and I was more interested in gun hunting anyhow. After years of taking game with a gun (which I still do), I have a greater interest in hunting and target shooting with a bow. Have also added slingshots and blowguns to the mix. Longbows are now my favorite, but of course am familiar with compounds, recurves and within the last few years have added “horse bows.” The “western draw” is my preference, but it was interesting how my Ukrainian wife and her sister who have little experience with archery instantly went to what I think is called the “Mediterranean Draw” and were accurate when target shooting. I wouldn’t mind continuing to visit that technique, but isn’t easy for me.
Great video .. I always learn good stuff .. Diverse stuff as well .. Great job Lilly .. Note : You always look like you're having fun in your videos ..
I need a new kviver! Been shooting since i was a kid...virtually all long and recurve...got a Bear compound maybe 45 or so years ago...guy owed me $50 and gave it to me in lieu of the cash...wasn't a big fan...wished i could go back to the Bear recurve from 1969 (i think) my dad had given me...loved that bow...but, when I enlisted in '73 I left it and never saw it again...same with my records, day glo posters n blacklights, bell bottom jeans, a carved ivory 1 hitter, my '72 les paul custom (you know what that's worth today??), a Traynor tube amp and my suede fringe jacket! WTH?? 🤣🤣 have to laugh...or id have to cry!!😢😢🤣🤣🤣
Hi lily, it's really good to see you with a bow in your hands again. I bought myself a 40lb draw weight 62" recurve very similar to the one you're using in this vid. This is all your fault! 😅😂. Kidding. I been getting busy with my arrows, fletching jig and feather vanes. It's a little bit harder than I thought to find a club close to home for practicing though. Keep up with the vids, maybe a competition with your sister or partner. 🙂
You're good. I know a little bit about archery but my dad is the expert. He can make arrowheads that look much like authentic old ones. I've got a magic trick for you. Get a pure copper coin or something around the size and shape of a small coin. Sand any edges or ruff spots smooth. Use medical tape to stick the copper on top of the most painful spot of any joint or tendon. Try to wear it 24/7 . Within a week there's a very good chance the pain will be gone, usually in 2 or 3 days. Seems to help arthritis as well but detoxing mercury from your body and not getting any more has worked for me so I don't have arthritis anymore. One other thing I just started doing, which really seems to help everything, is drinking hot cocoa twice a day. I put two teaspoons of powdered organic baking cocoa in a cup of hot water and stir until dissolved. Just cocoa and hot water, I really like it. This is supposed to release lots of stem cells from your bone marrow which go around your body and repair any damaged cells. Sounds very anti-cancer to me. I'm really enjoying feeling 20 again at almost 60 . That could be the red light therapy lamp though. 😀 OMG I've turned into a health nut 😮😂
yes... i made the mistake of learning in the boy scouts and then when I bought my own bow the cost was so much that I just went with a higher poundage bow for hunting. I wasn't prepared for the extra weight and it was uncomfortable to use. It can also make you less accurate. For target practice use a bow you are comfortable with drawing over and over. Its like using a .22 cal rifle for practice. Its not about power its about accuracy.
Lilly, I wish you a safe, blessed, well prepared and a happy New Year with a good health and prosperous. The same wish is for all your followers and family! Thank you for all your tutorial and informative videos! 🍀🕊️
To clarify one thing. A right handed bow has the shelf where the arrow rests on the left side of the bow, and a left handed one has the shelf on the right.
Hey Lilly! Been watching for years. Came for the survival tips and stay for the news updates. Would love to know your thoughts on the current election situation in Austria because we only get limited and very biased news here in the States. Can you do a video discussing it and is it promising for Austria, or worrying? Thank you so much for over 10 years of content!
I've found that you can get the benefits of drawing the bow in 45 degree up position without its risks if you draw the bow in 45 degree down position instead. Although that was with a compound bow.
Another excellent Archery vid lilly. Great content. Hope you do more, especially with the Field Archery side of the sport. Really into that side of it myself.

Outstanding Lilly. I've been shooting bow for about sixty years and you taught me a few things. Your awesome!
Been in archery 20yr and this is the best quick start video I've seen. Great job! ⭐

I never realized how dangerous archery was. I'll stick to firearms. i really enjoy shooting ! Thanks Lilly and have a fantastic new year !👍 😊
I suppose you can't cut yourself on bullets.
@@atnfnYou’d be surprised. Also, Lead poisoning.
Bullets never hurt no one.
Most people aren't worthy of gun ownership
Agreed, firearms are much safer and reliable.
Thanks for the refresher. Keep em coming. Happy New Year.

That is how I draw my 65lb recurve, works well
I am not a fan of this method, because it is harder to bring up the elbow in the right position.
@SurvivalLilly I understand. It does take practice, but in the long run, it's easier on the shoulder muscles
@SurvivalLilly maybe use the knee. It is stronger than the elbow. 😂😊
Lily.
You must have been written my mind because I've been thinking about getting back in to archery.Thank you for the video.

I shoot a 40# recurve from Cabelas. The Sabrehawk is really nice.
I’m glad you’re back into archery videos again.

Happy new year shatz!

Nice rig.
Great video!
Very interesting, thank you!
Definitely more skill than using a firearm. ❤ even more safety guidelines too. But still love the sport of the arrow
bellissimo video
You should actually twist & pull when retrieving an arrow from a 3D target, it’s much easier. 👍🏼
I will show your video to my 13-year-old daughter... She has some archery experience
In the near future ,will there be a follow up to this video where an archer can fire a bow while kneeling on one knee?
Also, will be demonstrations of how native tribes around the world go about their experience.
Thanks and Happy New year 2025.💐
