Anyone who thinks it looks bad has no idea how movies are made. The fact they have a prosthetic with that much detail when they could get away with using a tennis ball is telling on how detailed the movie will be. I’m pumped!
It’s a super dated look. I think they could smooth him out and fix his facial proportions for a better aesthetic look on screen but who knows, maybe it won’t read like a bad 80s animation show. I do share the same sentiment about them using prosthetics instead of rushed cgi that turns out looking terrible like Beast or Modok.
@@nicholasemmons1755 you’re proving the point I made in this comment. It’s literally just a mask for them to use in Post-Vis. That’s not what it’s going to look like in the movie. They could literally use a tennis ball instead of the mask we see in this picture and it would be the same.

They have to get the Thing right. They have to get the catch phrases right, too. When he says It's clobberin' time, people have to jump up out of their seats, or they screwed up.
Yeah, that's what makes or breaks the movie. Morbius for example, had that incredible line "It's morbin time!" and people shat their pants out of excitement. I can't believe how amazing that moment was. It's like shitting your pants in a good way.

Man it actually looks good and as true to the classic as much as possible. They are doing the best they can to get the classic version into this modern day.
He said “it looks like one famous Marvel comics illustrator” and I’m like yeah it’s Jack Kirby Thing, let’s go!! And then he said Alex Ross, like uhhh, well… I guess? But that big thick brow is iconic Kirby and always will be.
So glad it’s not completely cgi and mocap, I’m really digging the unique vibe they’re going for with this rendition. It needs to stand apart from the others and I’m all for it! The cast is already growing on me.
Really, Alex Ross's version is based pretty closely on Jack Kirby's version. In the first few issues, Kirby's Thing was more like dinosaur skin, but by around issue 20 or so, the Thing's classic look was established, and stayed pretty much the same until John Byrne in the 80s.
I always wanted to see a version of The Thing where you can tell its made of different rocks, minerals and elements. And in battle, you can sometimes see some of them get chipped off, and something else grows out of him in its place. I can see a dynamic where after years of battle, The Thing gets bigger and bigger, because every time something gets chipped off, something grows out more and takes up more space..
I agree with you Mike, it's like a first draft. It'll get cleaned up in post. No worries. Keep up the amazing work and as always please stay safe. Excelsior! Heff

Alex Ross’ version of The Thing is a painted version based on John Byrne’s design. He talks about this in interviews, and specifically in Fantastic Four: Full Circle. Of course… this is also great news because Byrne had the best FF run right after Jack and Stan.
Yeah it completely changes my mind on how I felt about this movie now that they’ve went to this version of the thing and RDJ as a alternate universe Doom
It looks (dare I say it?) FANTASTIC! Definitely has the vibe of Alex Ross's version of the Thing, which is based heavily on Jack Kirby, George Perez, and John Byrne's versions. I think some people are probably skeptical from the first f4 movie and how terrible the thing was. This one looks so dope though
Not to mention how comic accurate they did galactus

What a great reveal for Jack Kirby’s 107th Birthday! There’s a little John Byrne in there too with the Alex Ross
That is JACK KIRBY's Thing ! :) ~Glorious.

Alex Ross is the bomb, my all time favorite painting of his is the group picture of the Legion of Superheroes
THIS is incredible news and love The pictures of THING for FANTASTIC 4 RISE OF GALACTUS
This fantastic four movie is only getting better and better
It’s always better to have practical effects then the other. Always looks better an feels more real
The footage of them placing the head on Thing looked impressive.

Always been a huge fan of Galactus and fantastic four I am very hyped for this movie.
People tend to forget that in the 2015 FF movie the Thing had a practical head but was CGI.
He looks perfect. Cannot wait to hear him say "It's Clobberin Time" 🔥🔥
I liked the look of the Thing from the unreleased 90s movie.
Thanks again for the update Michael Roman and EVERYTHING ALWAYS you totally awesome and rock
i am excited to see a great Fantastic Four movie. Marvel please get it right, we deserve it.
The fact that we're not getting a cloud out of villain I'm hopeful for this version of the fantastic 4
I actually thought they would use CGI for Ben Grimm/The Thing.
The practical effects don't look bad in the set photo.

saw on ig wow!
Everything Always, great video keep up the amazing work
I really hope they can get FF right! So important for the rest of the MCU
I'm sure he will look fine. The Hulks and other characters have looked good when the CGI teams have been given enough time to work on them.
Looks cool. It will obviously be augmented by cgi too
I figured that they were going for a practical outlook on set, and they're going to do some touch-ups with CGI, of course.
I love alex ross art work
Hopefully we will in the MCU Fantastic Four interact and team up with Spider-Man and Thing vs. Hulk at least once.
I've seen pictures of the Invisible Woman on set. Well, she's invisible in the pictures so I didn't actually see her.
I was thinking John Bryne art, but yeah I def see Alex Ross both are amazing
