Maybe I'm nitpicking, but the correct way to report the transformer's power rating is in VA (Volt Amps) not Volt. Also I believe, that's weird if an amp is generating 80 W @ 4 Ohm and 150 @ 8 Ohm: IMHO you got those the other way around. In any case, keep up the good work! :)

@champer slimmerthannone Yeah the AHB2 looks nice if the claims are true but its also almost double the price for a mono pair. Plus I thought benchmark went for a very neutral analytical sound at least with their headphone amps and that may not be to everyone's tastes. Every piece of equipment sounds a little different, synergy is king, and we all have different ear canals and cochleas. So that's great you like the Benchmark but its not the only answer lol.

After listening reading and watching multiple reviews of the Kinki P7 preamp and M7 monoblocks, all brimming with positivity, included a hugely positive review from this man, I rolled the dice and bought them. To cut a very long story, short, the sonic performance was impressive, but not to my taste. Too clean, too quick and too staccato! Alvin at Vinshine kindly sent me the Denafrips Hestia. He thought it would better suit my taste. Fuller, warmer, more legato and with better acoustic mass. He was right. It’s an awesome little preamp. Matched with the Kinki M7 monoblocks makes for a highly synergistic marriage and now the beating heart of my hifi gear. I too, highly recommend the Denafrips Hestia preamp.

Have these attached to LSiM 700, everyone is always surprised at this system, door knocks are scary enough to wake the girlfriend from a sleep, fun stuff. Is it the best, no but darn close to some waaay more expensive units I've own or listened to. The amp is an overachiever for it size. No knocks there. I will be obtaining the Athena pre and the Apollo for this next iteration.

For the moment I'm in an apartment but going to purchase a much larger space where the speakers can breathe, that's the reasoning behind the larger and much quieter background. The Hestia and Hyperion are verrrry good for the dinero spent. No qualms as they are coveted by my brother also. He may get them when I croak then its up to Lisa to surrender them. I'm using Blue Heaven 💙 cable's that go well here. Silver of course, but to go beyond that is a financial precipice that bears no value to the sonics overall. Hey Jay .. I feel the schitt freya + is also a great sub 1000 pre-amp and paired with an Atoll power amp may give this denafrips combo a tough fight.. maybe I'm wrong too but ths jus my thought
I started off (& mostly carried on) with carefully chosen s/h hi-fi, & have owned stuff from classic tube gear to modern & every nearly every half-decade inbetween. (Pre-e/Bay so far cheaper even accounting for inflation) I always wanted a look inside before buying tho some sellers said "Why? ..No!" or "why, you heard it work! ...so no" For my good money, I'd want to check for sloppy repairs (ive seen some bizzare ones) & check the electronics visually. One change ive certainly noticed is that 'decent' power-amps Power-supply electrolytic capacitors have not only generally got much higher in capacity but they've come to be much smaller & accordingly more of them to get the total capacitance. Coke-can sized electrolytic power cap's were common in very beefy 1970 - mid 80's but you dont see them now. Good thing to! Cap's (unlike resistors) are additive when in parralel, so their ESR, (equivalent series risistance) drops substantially the more there are & the "energy flow" is very far-less impeded. I don't think ESR in power-supply cap's was even considered in the 60's 70' & 80's, but It's one of the few improvements in basic amp design for many decades imo & i was glad to see loads of small caps when my Jungson power-amp arrived from China Hi-Fi, instead of 2 or 4 humungous ones like the old days, (& maybe still, in some amps?)
Would you get the Kinki amp and pre amp over these? For reference, right now I use a Hegel H120 and a Schiit Bifrost 2 (the dac on the Hegel is lifeless in my opinion) with a pair of KEF R3.

I'm hunting for a solid but affordable preamp for a secondary listening system and the Hestia is interesting. It's true that there are few preamps under $1k, but there are some and as a stack there is a lot to choose from in the same range. Personally I like minimalist, but with that display being large and bright I'm just not sure.
The display has 15 (overboard, I know) brightness settings, accessible using the "time" button on the remote. It can't be turned off, but the lowest setting is nicely dimmed.
Have the Hestia and Hyperion, both are verrrry good bang for your dollar. I wont be selling them, but will put them in my man cave and be super happy. Have to remember these are significantly better than Best Buy, Crutchfield or other type stores. Ive had most of the high end stuff, Classe - boring; Krell- beefy; Edge M8- the one that got away, plus many tube amps both purchased and hand built by yours truly. These make an impression and thats why they will stay. The update is just me seeking the next level and quite possibly my last as I'm 65 and don't wish to pursue this hobby much more. My hearing is still excellent so at least I should have a few more years to kick back and enjoy. There is no additional gain (Unity Gain) with Denafrips preamplifiers. The Hestia and Athena are passive buffered, buffered passive, or simply called "buffered" preamp designs.
I doubt the transformer in the amp is 300 volt. I suspect you mean to say 300VA (volt/amp) which is the rating that specifies the power output of a transformer. For example 50V at 6 amps is a 300VA transformer. I use 1000VA for the B+ supply of each monobloc in my tube amps for example.

Ok Jay, I checked the Denafrips web page and they appear to have lots of interesting products including a CD transport called The Avatar. The Hestia has no gain according to their specs. If you own a power amp that needs driving then ( for instance ) the Schiit Freya maybe a better choice. All the amps that I own need to be driven so it wouldn't be for me.

Under $1K usd preamp? Schiit Freya+!! It’s an awesome preamp. Plus you get solid state modes AND tubes. And tube mode is crazy good.

How's this stack stack against the Kinki Studio integrated? They sort of have similar design language.

If you own a power amp that needs driving then ( for instance ) the Schiit Freya maybe a better choice. All the amps that I own need to be driven so it wouldn't be for me.

@@garygrice921 interesting. As a musician I find it to be the exact opposite. Most realistic timbre I’ve heard from components. But that was due a lot to adding the LH4 pre in there.

ALL preamps are class A, using this as an argument for quality is ridiculous. also "it has a veriaty of inputs and outputs" you must be joking. in the old days the whole purpose of a preamp was to introduce functions and connectivity. nothing like that here.
