    Maybe I'm nitpicking, but the correct way to report the transformer's power rating is in VA (Volt Amps) not Volt. Also I believe, that's weird if an amp is generating 80 W @ 4 Ohm and 150 @ 8 Ohm: IMHO you got those the other way around. In any case, keep up the good work! :)

      @champer slimmerthannone Yeah the AHB2 looks nice if the claims are true but its also almost double the price for a mono pair. Plus I thought benchmark went for a very neutral analytical sound at least with their headphone amps and that may not be to everyone's tastes. Every piece of equipment sounds a little different, synergy is king, and we all have different ear canals and cochleas. So that's great you like the Benchmark but its not the only answer lol.

    • @gatticusfpv3174
      @gatticusfpv3174 3 года назад

      @champer slimmerthannone Yeah that totally makes sense. The OP just didn't specify speakers. All my speakers are pretty low in sensitivity =(. And I totally agree when spending that much on an amp being able to get it serviced is super important. I hate to admit it but I've really liked almost ever tube preamp I've tried. I'm just a little curious how the kinki stuff does with tube pres when driving appropriate speakers.

    After listening reading and watching multiple reviews of the Kinki P7 preamp and M7 monoblocks, all brimming with positivity, included a hugely positive review from this man, I rolled the dice and bought them.
    To cut a very long story, short, the sonic performance was impressive, but not to my taste. Too clean, too quick and too staccato! Alvin at Vinshine kindly sent me the Denafrips Hestia. He thought it would better suit my taste. Fuller, warmer, more legato and with better acoustic mass. He was right. It’s an awesome little preamp. Matched with the Kinki M7 monoblocks makes for a highly synergistic marriage and now the beating heart of my hifi gear. I too, highly recommend the Denafrips Hestia preamp.

    I started off (& mostly carried on) with carefully chosen s/h hi-fi, & have owned stuff from classic tube gear to modern & every nearly every half-decade inbetween. (Pre-e/Bay so far cheaper even accounting for inflation) I always wanted a look inside before buying tho some sellers said "Why? ..No!" or "why, you heard it work! ...so no" For my good money, I'd want to check for sloppy repairs (ive seen some bizzare ones) & check the electronics visually. One change ive certainly noticed is that 'decent' power-amps Power-supply electrolytic capacitors have not only generally got much higher in capacity but they've come to be much smaller & accordingly more of them to get the total capacitance. Coke-can sized electrolytic power cap's were common in very beefy 1970 - mid 80's but you dont see them now. Good thing to! Cap's (unlike resistors) are additive when in parralel, so their ESR, (equivalent series risistance) drops substantially the more there are & the "energy flow" is very far-less impeded. I don't think ESR in power-supply cap's was even considered in the 60's 70' & 80's, but It's one of the few improvements in basic amp design for many decades imo & i was glad to see loads of small caps when my Jungson power-amp arrived from China Hi-Fi, instead of 2 or 4 humungous ones like the old days, (& maybe still, in some amps?)

    Ok Jay, I checked the Denafrips web page and they appear to have lots of interesting products including a CD transport called The Avatar. The Hestia has no gain according to their specs. If you own a power amp that needs driving then ( for instance ) the Schiit Freya maybe a better choice. All the amps that I own need to be driven so it wouldn't be for me.

      I'm running the AHB2 fed by the DAC3. Mind blowing upgrade from the Hegel H390 (which costs more!)

      @@garygrice921 interesting. As a musician I find it to be the exact opposite. Most realistic timbre I’ve heard from components. But that was due a lot to adding the LH4 pre in there.
      No worries man. We all have different tastes. Cheers.

    Jay, getting something as simple as the power rating into 4 and 8 ohms reversed takes credibility away from your review. Please proof your videos, especially against a manufacturer's specs.

    ALL preamps are class A, using this as an argument for quality is ridiculous. also "it has a veriaty of inputs and outputs" you must be joking. in the old days the whole purpose of a preamp was to introduce functions and connectivity. nothing like that here.

    Power output wrong, 300 volt transformer? Shouldn’t that be Watt? Not a very convincing “audio expert”, think also what he said was “grunt” is technically known as current headroom and reserve...
