Yes, you can create as many model states as you need. You can also mix substitutes and normal model states. I haven't tried having some Model States that represent different configurations, similar to an iAssembly, and others that are substitutes. There shouldn't be a limitation on this.

But if you had a previous level of detail, now design assistant doesn't work. Pretty serious flaw.
