This performance absolutely stuns me. Sondheim in general is NEVER easy to sing and yet here you have a girl who is about 30 years too young to be playing this role, and she absolutely nails it. The tone of her voice, the facial expressions, the attitude - she completely captures the emotional mood of the song. I am beyond impressed.
save the speech Rummy, She's f**ked, I'm ready and G-d damned show must go on, so let's get cracking, shall we. I was just cast as an understudy... just saying I'll drink to that.
If you haven't seen the movie Camp, it just makes this performance so much better. She plays a somewhat nerdy, quiet, shy, etc girl who is taken advantage of by the first girl. This scene is her transformation, also just awesome in general.
Yes, it's definitely her singing - she was a broadway actress and actually was the second-youngest performer to ever receive a Tony nomination at age 12.
In a December 2016 New York Times essay that Anna Kendrick wrote about the experience of making Camp, she said that "people have either never heard of it, or they want to tell me that it changed their life, no matter how inappropriate the circumstances."
I know she comes from a Broadway background, being the youngest nominee in history, so I would love her to go back to her theater roots and be in a musical. For someone so small, she has such presence and power.
TK omg I was a gay teen when this was new... lmao... I went to an intesne drama camp as a child s remembered her name going around people saying she'd be famous. never met her but I loved this movie :)...
This is the part of the movie that sticks out the most in my brain. It's an enjoyably bad movie, with some truly horrible characters, but this scene and this character are simply enjoyable.
I love how you can basically read Anna's book with RUclips by your side, and to go back and see most of the things she talks about. Like, you can even see her super high in painkillers during the Spirit Awards when Cate Blanchett won. And who else cried when she talks about her mom standing outside the theatre listening to the audience clapping for her at the end of High Society? Omg that always breaks me. (Yes, I've read it more than once)
Man! I remember watching this when the movie first came out, and thinking, "Who IS this girl?? She knocked it outta the park!" When she wound up in Twilight, I was a bit disappointed. Thank goodness for Up in the Air! When Glee came out, I hoped she do a guest spot, but she did one better: Pitch Perfect! I mean, she's no Elaine Stritch, but for an 18 y-o, dang!
There was supposed to be a scene in between her singing where the boy she poisoned was puking nearby while glaring at her sing. They cut it though, because Anna's performance was just that amazing that the director didn't want to take her spotlight. It's explained in her book.
Malvavisco That was Stephen Sondheim’s response to her singing in this movie- she said it felt awesome to get any kind of compliment from him, but that that’s not necessarily what you want to hear from him.
first time I actually heard kendrick sing. She's my favorite character in this movie. She's an inch away from throwing acid at her face. Best line in the movie was said to her by Mr.Henly, the one the lead to this scene. "It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done."
Lol yeah, she was on Broadway when she was 12 and got nominated for a Tony Award for that. This movie is about a bunch of teens at a summer camp for musical theater. Its a little weird and kinda slow but this scene is one of the best things to come out of Anna Kendricks career so far in my opinion lol. Her character was hilarious but didn't get as much screen time as I wished.
The movie is called Camp. You need it, in your life. When you see WHY she does what she does, you will have nothing but respect, for the Rise of Fritzie.
i love anna kendrick in everything she does, but "save the speech rummy, shes fucked, im ready and the goddamn show must go on" has to be the greatest line shes ever delivered
my gf, bonnie grant attended that camp that whole movie was about and filmed in. Stagedoor Manor. it was in The Catskills Mountains in upstate New York. Natalie Portman went there, Zack Braff, and Mandy Moore to name a few.
@asburycameron I'm glad so many people like this vid! 'Camp' was the first movie I ever saw Anna Kendrick in...but I didn't know who she was back then. Now when I go back and watch this, I'm like "Damn, this girl is really good; why didn't I pay attention to her before?"
Nobody else sing this song so well and so convincingly. I listened to a bunch of other, famous, singers, because I couldn't find it on iTunes. But nobody comes close, so I have to make do with the yputube video tonplay it. Great song, talented singer.
if you aint never seen this movie WATCH IT! it may be low budget but it was funny and boy could they sing. This was how i was introduce to Anna Kendrick. How she sabotage that other girl to get on stage was hilarious.
wow.......I am soooo beyond having a complete crush on this girl. I think I just moved from past infatuation to love! This performance is awe inspiring.
"She's fucked. I´m ready. And the goddamn show must go on."
Showbiz in a nutshell.
True😂
best Anna Kendrick line XD
more real than Real Deal Holyfield
"PLEASE, I'm a CHILD!"
with a drink in her hand...
Then proceeds to curse lol
If Anna Kendrick tells you to rise, you better rise.
Even if you're a foot or so taller and could squash her like a bug (not that you'd want to, of course.), you'd better rise.
She's a force of nature.
I'd have no problem rising for her
She is our prophet
It sounded to me like she was saying fries.
"Please, im a child." probably my favourite part from the whole movie
i didn't give it much thought until seeing your comment, but that is pretty hilarious. i also love "you're a scary little girl."
She was around 16 in this movie and I think she still looks exactly the same at age 31.
Anna oh please.
She looks like 12 or 13 but also kinda adult. Just ageless in a way
She was about 18 or 17
She was 17, almost 18 during filming. Born 9 Aug 85, movie released 29 Aug 2003, means filming was prior to Aug 2003, so 17.
According to Google she was 16 during filming. Some films are made then released a year or more later
save the speech Rummy, She's f**ked, I'm ready and G-d damned show must go on, so let's get cracking, shall we.
I was just cast as an understudy... just saying I'll drink to that.

Was she taken advantaged by the first girl? I thought Anna volunteered to wash her knickers.
da96103 like she let's the older girl treat her like shit because she wants to fit it.
please links of camp
I'll stick that on my Netflix list.
That girl always got the leads and she sucked at singing
Yes, it's definitely her singing - she was a broadway actress and actually was the second-youngest performer to ever receive a Tony nomination at age 12.
cool i never knew that about her past. what role in what broadway show?
@@johnjohnfox Dinah Lord in High Society
I would love to see Anna Kendrick do a role with that kind of attitude in the future.
I’d also love to see her play Marta.
A simple favor. She delivers the role you seek.
She swears a lot more than I do.
I’d like to see her play Amy Winehouse ❤
@@superawesomegamer2170😂
This was the first time I ever saw Anna Kendrick in a movie. After this scene, I knew she would be a force to be reckoned with.
Chase Salyer The gays got to know her first in this role. She will always be Fritzy.
Would you believe me if I said this was the first movie she was in?
Ditto. The same. Exactly.
@@DerrickMims Ironically, she didn't think she was one of the more talented singers in the movie.
In a December 2016 New York Times essay that Anna Kendrick wrote about the experience of making Camp, she said that "people have either never heard of it, or they want to tell me that it changed their life, no matter how inappropriate the circumstances."

She still does musicals. The Last Five Years, Into The Woods; heck even Pitch Perfect is a musical
@@josevich live theater I mean
Watching this after reading about it in her book. I'd never heard of Camp
I saw this a few years ago but had to come and re watch it because of her book :)
TK same 😆
TK SAME!!
TK omg I was a gay teen when this was new... lmao... I went to an intesne drama camp as a child s remembered her name going around people saying she'd be famous. never met her but I loved this movie :)...
jaja me 2!
I want to see her play someone like this again she's awesome like this
Omg she was FIFTEEN in this part! Such a voice range for that age! I love her little girl voice when she talks but amazing voice when she sings
This is the part of the movie that sticks out the most in my brain. It's an enjoyably bad movie, with some truly horrible characters, but this scene and this character are simply enjoyable.
I loved the whole movie but the best part was here's where I stand.
God well said. A hideous movie with some great musical numbers
She should've done this to Bella
MrAspiringactor Ahahhahaha!!!
The biggest leap in logic in Twilight: somehow Kristen Stewart is supposed to be hotter than Anna Kendrick.
"Oh, save the speech Rummy. She's fucked. I'm ready. And the god-damn show must go on!"
Bwaaa-haaa-haaa-haaa!!! Love it!
I love how you can basically read Anna's book with RUclips by your side, and to go back and see most of the things she talks about. Idc what people think. I personally think Anna's performance in this was awesome. It also goes with her character
I literally have lost count on how many times I've watched this clip 😂
Man! I remember watching this when the movie first came out, and thinking, "Who IS this girl?? She knocked it outta the park!" When she wound up in Twilight, I was a bit disappointed. Susan Hawk She is 29 this yer ;((
She's 30 this year
immaGirl turning 30 aye
I'm so scared! I've loved her since 2003 and I was only 9!
immaGirl Literally going to sob I've known her for the same amount she is just perfect 100% of the time... time flies by when you're having fun.
Anna Kendrick when she was younger looks like she could be a sister to the Spouse brothers from Disney channel
Omg! That's what I thought!
There was supposed to be a scene in between her singing where the boy she poisoned was puking nearby while glaring at her sing. They cut it though, because Anna's performance was just that amazing that the director didn't want to take her spotlight.
It's explained in her book.
People need some context to his. Makes her performance even better lmao
I just love the look on his face, like, "well she's insane but dayum....DEM PIPES!!! ."
I bought the DVD because I couldn’t find a download of this best version ever of Ladies who Lunch
She fucking commands that stage
Who else is reading "Scrappy Little Nobody" and then coming back to watch these videos? :))
Chucho E. Quintero me lol
Same here
She's been nominated for a Tony and an Oscar in her life... She is freakishly talented.
Anna Kendrick was the best part of this whole goddamn movie
She snatched for her moment! I love this lol she knew what she wanted
She was so real for this
She's a beautiful monster.
I watch this video like 3 times a week
She has nice teeth.
Nice! I'm somewhat disappointed no one else got this reference.
Shotgun Charlotte I got it :)
Help me out here
Malvavisco "Anna kendrick geeks out and sing with Stephen" look that up on RUclips at like around 5:20
Malvavisco That was Stephen Sondheim’s response to her singing in this movie- she said it felt awesome to get any kind of compliment from him, but that that’s not necessarily what you want to hear from him.

CAMP! I love this movie so much. The songs are spectacular with such talented kids (!!!) performing them.
I wonder if Sondheim or Elaine Stritch have ever commented on this performance.
This blows me away..."save the speech rummy..."
Anna's comedy chops were brilliant. And at that age and with all her other talents in singing and acting. Just...wow.
I've rewatched this so many times. Best part of the movie.
I love that the "everybody rise" part was actually Sondheim's attempt to get a standing ovation, and that's 100% what she's going for too
I've never seen this movie, but I don't get to see a lot of Anna Kendrick singing that ain't that song from Pitch Perfect, so I like it.
She does have the talent. And a cool song.
The Last Five Years and Into the Woods are good
Lol yeah, she was on Broadway when she was 12 and got nominated for a Tony Award for that. This movie is about a bunch of teens at a summer camp for musical theater. I would LOVE to see her portray Amy Winehouse in film ❤ I’ve been feeling for years she’s the one that can do her justice ❤
This is my favorite thing I love Anna Kendrick!
Such an awesome talent…. Great musical theatre
Ugh, I love this so much!
I remember seeing this movie when I was like 5 and I still love it to this day. You just don't see musical numbers this authentic on Glee.
She is an awesome actress and singer!!
I've loved Anna Kendrick since this movie and it's awesome to see her career take off
YES this is from Camp. It's my faaavorte movie and I'm so glad people realized how great of an actress she is!
I love this video soo much
I knew she was going to be a star when I first saw her in Camp. ♥️♥️
I have freaking loved her since I first saw this scene back in high school. I'm so excited she'll be singing again in "Pitch Perfect." SO talented.
"You scheming bitch!"
"Please! I'm a child!"
How is Anna Kendrick not more famous already?????
In the present world of talent, Anna Kendrick is over-looked! SHE is PURE talent!
anna kendrick so great in -ladies who lunch - (camp 2003 ) !!!
I love this movie!
I am in awe ❤️😍
I swear when I first saw this movie when i was 13 (or so) she was my favorite, character, performance, and actress.
We never know what the background of these performers are. Even to get into a small part in the small movie takes talent.
This girl blows me away.
One can only hope that in about 25 years they will be another revival of COMPANY on Broadway and she can play this role full out.
This is by far my favourite scene in Camp
my gf, bonnie grant attended that camp that whole movie was about and filmed in. Stagedoor Manor. it was in The Catskills Mountains in upstate New York. Natalie Portman went there, Zack Braff, and Mandy Moore to name a few.

Anna K was in CAMP. I'm shook. How did I not realize! Such a star
