    BTW: I hope you’re either keeping or selling the vacuum pumps. Lots of MB guys who’d love to get their hands on them.

      That's actually mentioned in the FSM. I don't remember exactly what it says but I think it says it will compensate for altitude automatically. There are 4 springs inside that can wear out, so once they are shot, they're shot. And to my knowledge, there are no replacement parts available.

    what Hg range should the OEM pump be pulling? That will give us an idea on what Hg to look for in aftermarket kits too.

      I bought a Hella UP30. Still trying to figure out how to best set it up, as lifetime hours probably doesn’t match how long the engine runs. I think it should only run on demand.

    So I am buildintg a OM617 for a Jeep, with power brakes. I should probably keep the vacuum pump or is it a good idea to delete it and get brake boost from somewhere else?

    • @doomsdaydiesel
      @doomsdaydiesel  3 года назад

      Hydroboost gets the win if you're pushing huge rubber. Otherwise stock pump or a Hella pump will work fine as long as you have a proper sized reservoir

    do not ever delete the vacuum pump if you have w123/w126. Climate controls are running on vacuum, door locks, trunk lock, etc. I've never heard or seen vacuum pump to release ball bearings into the engine and cause catastrophic failure. I have 10 years experience in om617, and my dad has 40 years. Never ever heard of this so you must be trippin

    • @doomsdaydiesel
      @doomsdaydiesel  3 года назад +1

      You have to replace it with an electric pump or you'd have no brakes. It will work just fine that way, and there is no longer a threat of your mechanical pump wiping out the engine.

      @@xsiaze I never said it was common. Just that it's typically catastrophic when it happens. And that's not even the point of the video. The point of the delete for me is for customers swapping 96-04 V6 Tacomas.
