Unlike a BMW or especially Mercedes, this Lexus /Toyota will run forever and be overall reliable. And hold its value for that reason. Look at 6 year old merc, it's worth a quarter of original.
It's a Toyota. I measure my expectations knowing this going into viewing this or any other car video. . End of the day, it is NOT a Mercedes nor a BMW. Please stop trying to fool yourself! The Lexus is a good option and makes good fiscal sense. IMO I just don't like the looks. I have a Merc GLE 350( a GLK 350 Sport before that) and have driven and owned an Acura, Infiniti and Lexus. I currently drive a 2018 Honda Accord 2018 Sport 6spd so I am not being a dick. The luxury brands of Honda and Toyota are great "value" when you are cross shopping but they are NOT Mercedes nor BMW. Can a car guy(s) get an AMEN ?
Lexus is currently building a 4.0L V8 twin turbo that is capable of +600hp for a LS variant. Once this engine comes out, it will be the first high horsepower twin turbo V8 that is... gulp... reliable. Would NEVER buy a used German car. This on the other hand is the exception in luxury cars.
Branden McHenry, I will be honest, I don't know too much about those series of engines. However, I've known of two cases of turbo's giving out on the M279 twin turbo V12. Overall, I know this is subjective. Furthermore, I do know a technician at Audi, and he's told me the majority of the internals (which are mostly forged) on the twin turbo V8 4.0L can withstand a lot more horsepower/torque.
I may not know particular variants, specifically, AMG and M-Division engines but regular variants of many MB and BMW, like the N54, with their plastic VANOS parts are as about unreliable as it gets. BMW's, specifically, are notorious for plastic valve train mechanicals. Or how about MB designing calipers for their brake systems where the disc is not the correct size (this leads to changing the disc everytime a major brake service is warranted). Honda, on the other hand, has multistage V-TECH systems that virtually have a zero failure rate. Branden McHenry, you do realize why BMW's and MB depreciate in value so much? How is it that a CL65-AMG is $190,000 and a 100,000 miles later it's $25,000.00 and requires anywhere from $5,000-30,000.00 worth of maintenance and repair? It's not because their reliable, for sure. I don't know of one BMW owner, who in the end, didn't succumbed to getting rid of their car because it was a maintenance/repair hell.
Nothing I like more then turning on the massage function when I'm tracking my car. So satisfying taking a hard turn while the seat tries to push me out of the car. ; ) I love your reviews man!
It's worth mentioning that a twin turbo V8 F version is currently in the works, but I'd probably still opt for this twin turbo V6 because it's plenty quick enough, gets excellent fuel economy (when you're not driving like your hair is on fire) and it even sounds pretty good. I'd still definitely consider the F version though, depending on the price difference. I think the LS is the one to get in the large luxury class, even ahead of the Germans, due to its outstanding value and undeniable long-term reliability. Thanks for another great review Matt.
Welp it's been 4 yrs as of your comment and still nothing. Maybe lexus is over testing it to make sure it will be ultra reliable throughout the yrs and any abuse it may be put through - which takes time. But still it's been a long while with no word of a performance ls
well tbh, he took it slowly out at first so i think the transmission switched back into eco mode so when he floored it, it got confused. the downsides of lexus gearbox imo... this happens in my lexus all the time. i have it in sports mode and the moment i let off the accelerator, the car just goes into last gear and delays to change back down when i really need it. love the car, but hate the transmission.
Buy a used European car If you want to become an experienced DIY-mechanic. Buy a Lexus if you don't like spending much time on car repairs. It's also alot of value for 5000 pounds (15:57).
Headlights are gorgeous. Grille has grown on me. Your right matt move the lighter from cup holder. Analog clocks are obsolete. I miss looking at the engines with metal cam covers. Intake runners. Headers. Not a fan of plastic covers hiding coil packs and vacuum/coolant tubes. Love interior design like new edge art deco
This car ruined the LS line. I’m 6’2”. I cant sit upright in the back. I can’t have the front seat in my position and get into the rear seat without turning my feet sideways but somehow the car is slightly longer than the pervious long wheel base LS460L. How did they do that? The arm rests on the doors move side to side if any force is applied to them. Everything feels cheaper than the old LS460.
Is this possibly the best car ever made? Quick...good looking, reliable, luxurious.Might just be lol its also cool how it has the same power as a first gen isf but with more torque
One nitpick. While the Bose Panaray has a much higher speaker count, that’s not indicative of a better stereo. Bose stereos are uniformly loud, and tuneless, and you never see real audiophiles with them in their homes. The Mark Levinson does more with less.
This car tho 😍😍😍 damn Lexus great job! This looks 10x better than current Mercedes and BMW models in my personal opinion. Now Audi is looking damn good over the other 2 germans. This stands out and its different and it's going to run 10+ years with no major issues! #teamlexus
Nice work Matty-Midnight ! While I respect the build quality/reliability of Lexus/Toyota, I simply cannot get behind the gaping maw that represents the new design language of the front end. Looks like it should be swimming in the ocean hunting for krill.
Great video! Two things: 1.) See if you can find an alternative to the word ‘really’. You overuse it. 2.). Try something else with your hands. Feels like you don’t know what you’re doing with them at the start of all your videos. Legitimately good videos, just want to help you be even better.
This is the F Sport version. Lexus wants it to be sporty, it's literally in the name. If you want a more comfortable one, they have the regular LS too.
@Faisal Khan you can't realistically have both with the technology we currently have. Handling sacrifices ride quality. Ride quality sacrifices handling.
Better then S class and the rest of the Germans. For the value this car can't NOT be beat. By any other luxury car. It's twin turbo engine is a better base engine and more powerful then any of the German base engines. Very strong motor I wonder how much better it can her with a tune seems Lexus left some power on the table... Great to see Lexus making their cars fun to drive WHILE still keeping comfort. This car is really sleek and beautiful. It's very long in person. Great looking car. Great review man !!
Don't you blabber your jaws off about how unreliable Turbo engines are and how N/A is the way to go? I guess it's okay if it's in your precious Toyota products. Loving the way you contradict yourself with every comment.💯
You should have a wardrobe for the different types of vehicles you review. You look so out of place in that Lexus. Just a recommendation to boost your channel and you will probably gain more subscribers.
I have a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 EX-L at just over $30k. Now, this Lexus may arguably be a more "luxury" car, but there is NO WAY that it's $50,000 more worth of Luxury. $80K?!?!?!!? riiiiight........and no CarPlay?? C'mon. Great review though! :)
DPhoto I'm sure the 2019 LS will offer CarPlay on board. Given that the all-new 2019 Avalon was the first vehicle from the Toyota Motor Corporation to support it.
Lol. If we have to explain luxury to you its a lost cause. I pay for what I expect. The LS meets those expectations. The NVH alone is a huge part of why you buy high end luxury cars. The Accord is good but the fact that you compare it to the LS shows that's you're no where near being able to grasp why these cars cost as much as they do. I used to own a TL but at no point did I think my TL was as luxurious as an LS.
You’re comparing apples to oranges. People don’t buy a LS for value. These are luxury goods and they cost a ton of money for a reason. If you want an everyday “value oriented” car, stay in your accord.
The Lexus’ Brand styling looks good to you but not me. I’m seeing a cartoonish, “Roger Rabbit” theme. To help your fan base understand what I mean, try wearing one of those large bunny costumes when you get another one of these land yachts to review. Or better yet, hop back in the Mustang and do some track video Bro’.
Unlike a BMW or especially Mercedes, this Lexus /Toyota will run forever and be overall reliable. And hold its value for that reason. Look at 6 year old merc, it's worth a quarter of original.

What about the Jaguar?
Bmw is rated as one of the most reliable brands

Braden McHenry The most reliable brand to stay in the garage more than on the road😂
@@bradenmchenry995 😂😂😂😂😂
Saw one of these on the road over the weekend, it's huge! Looks like a spaceship.
It drives like a spaceship too😉 check out my review
Great review! I just reviewed a black f Sport LS 500 this week too 😉

ErwinSchrodinger64 how can you make a statement on unreliable high performance German engines when you know nothing about them?
Braden McHenry no knowledge required really all German products turn into money pits after the warranty that’s why it is better to lease them.

Great review Matt!
all his reviews are great
I live close to the Toyota HQ in Plano, TX and you always see these running around. Every time I see one I can’t help but to stop and stare.
Love how this car looks.
Let's talk about the colored and designed perforations in those seats!!! The attention to detail that Lexus is doing is soo superior!!!
It's worth mentioning that a twin turbo V8 F version is currently in the works, but I'd probably still opt for this twin turbo V6 because it's plenty quick enough, gets excellent fuel economy (when you're not driving like your hair is on fire) and it even sounds pretty good. Awesome looking car and review! Great job Matt!
That throttle response at 15:15 was embarrassing... Almost dangerous in the wrong situations.
mjmont92 the thing about Lexus Is their transmission setup, both the engine and transmission are quick but they always set up toward comfort
Throttle response is slower when in comfort or normal mode, sport and sport plus has tighter suspension and handling and throttle response
well tbh, he took it slowly out at first so i think the transmission switched back into eco mode so when he floored it, it got confused. the downsides of lexus gearbox imo... this happens in my lexus all the time. i have it in sports mode and the moment i let off the accelerator, the car just goes into last gear and delays to change back down when i really need it. love the car, but hate the transmission.
This car is flat out gorgeous
I was just rewatching one of the older reviews and realized I miss the old car review opening with the music and car montage.
This is the best LS500 review Matt! 👍
autumn shimmer color looks the best on this car.
Lexus never fails with the LS, good review
Great review, always look forward to them!
Would definitely take this over a seven series BMW or S class Benz .
Buy a used European car If you want to become an experienced DIY-mechanic. Buy a Lexus if you don't like spending much time on car repairs. It's also alot of value for 5000 pounds (15:57).
I like the sound of the exhaust. Also, the HUD would be so cool
LOL that two second delay at 15:15 you looked so disappointed lol
the 2000 Subaru Outback center storage spot, it opens so the door faces back, i think that's the best solution
One of the best cars ever. Lexus kills it!
Headlights are gorgeous. Grille has grown on me. Your right matt move the lighter from cup holder. Analog clocks are obsolete. I miss looking at the engines with metal cam covers. Intake runners. Excellent review! Lexus is up there with the best in the luxury car business! I don’t care what anyone says!
The LS500 F Sport in Canada comes with the 24inch heads up display
You should review the luxury version of the Lexus LS500
love those ls headlights....but I can only imagine the cost to replace one
Now that's a bad ass sedan along with the q70L. Nice nice cars!!
This will be helpful. Thanks Matt!
I'm wearing my Lets turn on to this back road and see how it does shirt from your Channel today 😁
Thanks for getting one!

How did you get started with doing car reviews??
i didn't know that u filmed with a camera that big
will this motor show up in the RX?
can you review a K900 too? Thx luv the cannel great info :)
Most stylistically epic car in its class!
Hey Matt, have you reviewed the LC 500 yet?
Is this possibly the best car ever made? Quick...good looking, reliable, luxurious.Might just be lol its also cool how it has the same power as a first gen isf but with more torque
Matt i think the LC500h has a CVT and a 4 speed auto combined, not a 10 speed
It combines to make a simulated 10 gears.
well that's some interesting math! haha
This car looks exactly like a new 2018 Camry XSE! Awesome!
Ricky Rick nope I don't see it at all
Ricky Rick
Take the sunglasses off, they're blinding your vision. LOL
The 2nd gen honda fit has that same kind of volume nob.
Without nav
side skirts are coming back in 2020 with large sedans.
I don't know why the red coloured Lexus LS and GS always come with black interior, I wish they had white or red interiors.
looks great except the back wheel arches look kinda off
The LS has air suspension..If you start the car it will lower itself
Love this car
Take this over Tesla any day
Oh my god that throttle response😂
Damm that intro was sick!!!
One nitpick. While the Bose Panaray has a much higher speaker count, that’s not indicative of a better stereo. Bose stereos are uniformly loud, and tuneless, and you never see real audiophiles with them in their homes. The Mark Levinson does more with less.

I'm getting 26-28 mpg highway on my LS 460 F Sport.
On eco mode of course and barely stepping on the pedal.
Nice work Matty-Midnight ! While I respect the build quality/reliability of Lexus/Toyota, I simply cannot get behind the gaping maw that represents the new design language of the front end. Looks like it should be swimming in the ocean hunting for krill.
*FLOORS IT* .. Lexus: ............ “oh shit sorry bwaaaaaaaaaaabwaaaaaaaaaabwaaaaa”
Hi Matt
Holy crap Lexus needs to cut that weight down. Many people don’t realize the role power to weight plays a role in fuel economy.
Dang trying to be first. Got beat..know it's a good review cause of the intro music. Rock on Matt
What a machine!!
Sport+ and that kind of throttle response? I would never buy it based on that alone
Yeah stick to the lc500 for performance and gs350 for luxury. Both better values
Great video!
Two things:
1.) See if you can find an alternative to the word ‘really’. You overuse it.
2.). Try something else with your hands. Feels like you don’t know what you’re doing with them at the start of all your videos.
Legitimately good videos, just want to help you be even better.
Please stop praising luxury sedans for being sporty. They're supposed to be comfortable. And the more sporty they get, the less comfortable they get.
This is the F Sport version. Lexus wants it to be sporty, it's literally in the name. If you want a more comfortable one, they have the regular LS too.
The ride quality of the LS 500 is so much worse than the LS 430, for example, due to this stupid "sport" trend.
How bout both.
@Faisal Khan you can't realistically have both with the technology we currently have. Handling sacrifices ride quality. Ride quality sacrifices handling.
best in class
I’ve gotten 27 mpg in eco mod in my LS500 2018
did you feel a bit under dressed rolling in that lexus
This red is nice, can’t see how 7-series, S Class, A8 can be in this color.
Review: 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport AWD
Wow matt the (here )and (there) drinking game I'm totally fucked up
I did not hear even one "aggressive".
#askMattMaran That thing is almost as heavy as a crossover considering how much it weighs
Better then S class and the rest of the Germans.

the back seat legroom is worst in class
That mpg is very surprisingly bad for a 6 cylinder. I have the 2007 LS460 with the V8 and it averages 21.3mpg.
My dad told me that if you wanna change your car every 15 years, don't get lexus....
That car is faster than the Ford Bullshitt.
The Ls500 engine could’ve been the new supra’s engine since lexus and toyota are in the same company 😒
Turbo 6 get bad mileage. Same whether it's a Ford or this Lexus. Yet another car where replacing the v8 has no value
where is the dog???
"Lots of leg room in the back seat. I'm 5 foot 9...."
Still prefer the s8
anyways.... cool to see that
gamefreakmdp18 so let me turn on to this back road here...
That throttle response is atrocious.
Review a 2018 Ford Edge
LC 500 engine in the LS and I will take a look. Until then my 7 series is cool. This is far better than a CT6.
Fugly as sin... but reliable
Would be great if Lexus used metal buttons on the interior like the Germans
Cadillac ct 6 is no way near the same category as this car. Cadillac FLAGSHIP vehicle is Escalade.
Cadillac is ugly. Old man funeral vehicles.
Beefy 😏
