  • In the picturesque Norwegian county of Møre og Romsdal is the largest lake in the region, Eikesdalsvatnet. It is narrow, long, and located 22 meters above sea level. Its length is 20 kilometers, but the greatest width is only 1.7 kilometers.
Eikesdalsvatnet is surrounded by mountains with peaks of 1,500 to 1,800 meters above sea level. The steep slopes of the mountains descending to Eikesdalsvatnet make this area very dangerous and prone to landslides.
On the road Fv191, which runs along the shoreline of the lake, we admire the stunning views as we move along the entire lake to its opposite side in the Eikesdalen valley.
This road has been closed many times due to landslides. In August 2003, 200 meters of the road disappeared due to flooding after heavy rain. A lot of work has been done on the Fv191 road to ensure safety, so most of the road goes through tunnels, but when you emerge from the tunnels, the beauty around you and the transparency of Lake Eikesdalsvatnet take your breath away!
We gradually approach the toll road leading to the parking lot where the hike to Mardalsfossen waterfall begins, the price for cars is 50 NOK. The invoice is sent by mail, but you can also pay online.
There are a lot of cars in the parking lot, which is not surprising, because Mardalsfossen waterfall can only be seen in all its glory during the summer tourist season from June 20 to August 20. On these dates, the water is discharged through the waterfall. At other times of the year, the water is directed through a hydroelectric power station and the waterfall sharply loses some of its appeal. So keep this in mind when planning your trip.
There is a good and wide path leading to the waterfall with a gradual climb of about 200 meters. The route is about 2 km long one way. The first 1.4 kilometers to the picturesque bridge go along the river through the largest hazel forest in Northern Europe.
After the bridge, the path becomes steeper and after leaving a note in the guest book, we climb to the foot of the waterfall at a height of 325 meters above sea level. You can get very close to the waterfall, but the stones there become slippery, and the humidity from the icy spray creates a damp fog, so if the day is cool, take a raincoat with you.
Mardalsfossen is a cascade waterfall, one of the highest in Europe, its height is 655 meters, and the free fall of water is 297 meters. And it looks truly elegant. And it becomes a sincere pity that such a powerful waterfall has been "tamed" by people and only 2 months a year they allow it to fall from the top of the mountain at full force.
The way back goes along the same road Fv191. But the mood at the lake is now completely different because due to the narrowness of the lake and the height of the mountains around it, the lake is already covered with contrasting and dense blue shadows.
On our way, there is a small ferry crossing. The first ferry service on Lake Eikesdalsvatnet was established in 1885, the trip across the lake took 2 hours (compared to 3 hours on a four-oared boat). At that time, Eikesdal had about 300 inhabitants.
And now in the summer season, the ferry MF "Mardøla" travels along Eikesdalsvatnet between Øverås in the north and Eikesdalen in the south.
The last frames of our video are the blue and very clear Eira River. It flows out of Eikesdalsvatnet and flows into the Øresfjorden. Its length is 7.1 kilometers.
By the way, if after watching the video you want to admire the lake Mardalstjønna, from where the waterfall Mardalsfossen falls down with a roar, then join us on our summer trip on a Tesla with kayaks on the roof along the Sandgrovbotnvegen road: • Majestic Mardalsfossen...

Hello. I have one important question about drones. Do I have to register every flight somewhere? I want to fly over free zones (no National parks, prisons ...) I have operator number, I have license (everything i need)

    • @CrazyTroll

Hi! No, there is no need to register each flight, only in restricted areas you will need permission.
