- Join us as we build the Voronoi Evolution project!
This project is a series of 12 pieces inspired by the patterns on dragonfly wings and on giraffe’s fur!
The pattern, called a Voronoi Tessellation, was first characterized by Georgy Voronoy in the early 1900’s, but was mentioned by Descartes and others as early as 1644.
I created the original designs using RhinoCAD and Grasshopper, then arduously cut the many wood pieces to fit together like 12 giant puzzles.
We created this video to show, not only the end result of our work, but the process we followed to design and create these 12 pieces.
In addition, we’ve created a pretty cool animation ( • Voronoi Evolution Expl... ) that shows how the Voronoi pattern evolved in our project.
For more general information about Voronoi Tessellations, a good place to start is this Wikipedia article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voronoi....

I love this video. What a cool design.
They turned out like art. Cool idea Rich.
Wow! You're a really great marketer!
Very cool design, made even more interesting knowing the math behind it.
It's amazing what we can learn by trying to imitate nature. Love the design Rich!
Thanks Rasmus!
Who knew math could be art! These look great!
Next you’ll be telling me that music is math. Craziness!
@@loen.design I’ve been on an anti-math thing on the podcast for a while but recently got convinced that math is probably art.
вот уж действительно дизайнерское испражнение максимизирующее неиспользованное пространство
