    I think I read somewhere that at their peak there was over 300 different models. And as a 28 year marine mechanic, I have rebuilt at least 100 of the marine versions.

      Prob the easiest carb to rebuild. I used to hate them but god dame they work good when you know which one to use. That and they are great for fuel mileage bc the primary is smaller. Long as your not doing pulls lol cheers 🍻

    I love the Quadrajet! I would always use the 4 barrels on my engine with a turbo 350 transmission. You "KNOW" that its right when the four barrels open up and the transmission downshifts at the "SAME TIME".....

    Is there a way to identify a qjet carb if it doesn’t have the aluminum tag in the circle stamp? I don’t see any other number on carb it self. And I need to rebuild it.

    I have a '66 De Ville Conv. with a 429. My carb seems to have a vacuum leak, (stalling out at idle or stops, at moving speeds no problems). It does not seem to look like any of the examples, best I can tell. How do I figure it out so I buy the right part for a mechanic to rebuild it for me? I'm not a mechanic and can't remove it to look for numbers, but took really good photos. Thanks

    Can you help? I have a 1966 Caprice with a 327 275 hp motor. Unfortunately, the little red tag is gone with the date and carb number. One thing that seems strange about my carb is the mechanism that runs across the top of the secondary butterfly on the drivers side. The early carb in your video with the red tag is very similar to mine, except the fuel line comes in from the side. If you look at that carb, you can see a hole right behind the choke horn on the left side. This is where the mechanism starts on mine, then goes across the left butterfly and attaches to the back of the carb diagonally. What does this do? My secondaries open up, but the butterfly does not. What's going on??? Have you seen this before?? Thanks!

    • @QuadrajetPowerLLC
      @QuadrajetPowerLLC  Год назад

      That was the secondary dampener system in 1965-1966. You should be able to push open the air valves with your finger. If you can't, then the dampener is stuck in the bore. This type did not have a vacuum brake connected with rod to secondary system like they did starting in 1967.

    My 86 K2500 has the one with the small 2 pin plug on top that has something to do with fuel metering I guess. Is it possible to switch it to one that doesn't have that like what's on the 454 in my 85 C30 dually? Also I'm probably wrong, but on the pickups the electric choke didn't get power until the oil pressure came up and closed a pressure switch.

    • @treywilliams3671
      @treywilliams3671 3 года назад

      Mine has that 2 and I thought maybe it was a tps censor but I'm seeing it's a fuel metering censor. What is it for and what does it do?

    • @SOU6900
      @SOU6900 3 года назад

      @@treywilliams3671 My understanding is it's some sort of actuator or something for adjusting the metering rods. I think it works off a temperature sensor on the thermostat housing.

    • @t-rodshader9593
      @t-rodshader9593 2 года назад

      This is actually the same one that came factory on mine.. the newer carbs on full-size Chevys that only had that plug and it was gray with no other plugs, is for the accelerator pump shot amount to drop once warm, they no like anger make that temp switch, but I'm m sure one could be made to work, although you can also keep it unplugged and it will operate as normal, Rochester called it "dual-capacity accel pump".. it literally just kept it from being as much fuel wasted once warm on accel but on a mild build it probably needs the larger volume pump shot so it would only come in handy where throttle response wasn't as much of a concern

    • @QuadrajetPowerLLC

      Once it is warm, it continues to draw a small amperage to stay warm and open. It doesn’t turn off until key is turned off.

    So mine is a 17085226. Would that mean a 1985 QJ, model 226? As know mine needs cleaned and resealed for sure. Runs okay, and motor is from an 85 or 86 truck as truck itself is 84 with not original motor.

    • @MichaelJohnson-cm4wp

      226..The first 2 means it is 4 barrel carb..If this 2 was a 5, it would be California only.....second 2 means it is a Chevrolet application..6 means it is a Automatic transmission..The 8 means 1980 decade and the 5 means 1985

    Please let me know.
    Thank you.

    • @QuadrajetPowerLLC
      @QuadrajetPowerLLC  4 года назад

      The choke housing would have to be replaced with hot air housing. Main carb body modified for vacuum source to the choke housing. Engine would have to have all of the hot air heat source tubes for supply. So yes, might be possible, but much easier and better to use electric.

    • @QuadrajetPowerLLC

      Yes, Carter made many service replacement quadrajets with the 4 numbers and S. Fuel overflowing indicates problems with float height, needle/seat sealing, or fuel pressure too high.
