I have the exact issue sprocket not lined up also. That metal that the bearing mounted on the steel inside was welded. It was broken weldment by the bearing area. That caused the chain to be loose. I have to weld it back together to fix it.

The clip between the auger engagement and the drive engagement, is to latch both together temporarily, so you can squeeze the drive handle with one hand, while turning or lifting the chute with your other hand while still blowing! Chains have SPROCKETS, gears have cogs!!

For future reference Henry, there is such a thing as a half link that could be useful in shortening a chain less than a whole link. Probably available at a place like Tractor Supply.
I think the axle slid over, that’s why the sprockets don’t line up. Might be an E clip or something missing where the axle goes through the flange bearings on the side of the unit maybe?
Look at the triangle on the lable, it says 95?
Look like someone worked on it and put a nut & bolt on big sprocket. That might be off center. Also u can try a half link for the chain.

Lawn tractor tires are large to compensate for weight so it does not compact soil
It’s gonna push down on the soil way more than a push mower

If you know the chain size you can take one link out and put in a half link.

The chain came off bc the pin in the wheel was missing. The wheel shaft moved out of assignment when the pin was missing allowing the chain to come off
