I don't know if James Caan knew just how good an actor he really was. Today's actors do not compare to those of Caan"s generation. I will miss him forever!
For some reason I became a fan of James Caan early on.. He did Lady in a Cage and El Dorado a few years before Brian's Song and it was the later the sold me. He just had that it factor and of course loads of talent. I became even more interested after his many disappearances from the screen and I heard some of those stories that made him somewhat Un-bankable in Hollywood. I said to myself, they must be absolutely insane to not put him in movies that they knew he was right for because he is way too good to blackball. Thankfully he kept coming back and we are all the better for it. Interestingly, of all the movies he made his favorite was Thief (1981) that is one of my favorites too. Plus, could see through that tough guy exterior that while yes he was really and truly a tough guy, he was also a sweetheart of a guy with a big heart.

He had charisma. Actors today have ZERO charisma. They're just a bunch of basic bro's trying to look cool for the camera.
He is missed.
