      i don't think he was underrated. He was actually even more highly rated than ambrose in wi cricket circles. colin croft once said that bishop would have been the best WI pacer ever had it not been for multiple stress fractures. marshall was interviewed during the 88 series in england and said in reaction to an ambrose spell that ambrose was good, but ian bishop would be the holy terror of WI cricket. he was just unfortunate to have serious injury issues

    Atherton hitting a six to Bishop .. No way ! I can only imagine that it was a steepling ball and to an imagined flick by Athers the steeply climbing ball took the top edge and ball went over the boundary behind the keeper and Athers had to be revived because he thought his head came off and had fainted ...

    Jimmy's longevity is an outlier because he is a one-format player. People tend to forget that the bowlers he is up against mostly play 3 formats + franchise cricket . Jimmy , as good as he is, had the benefit of working in cooler climes and sticking primarily to the one format.

    • @hillbilly3772
      @hillbilly3772 12 дней назад

      He still had what would be almost a full length career whilst playing all three formats when he was younger. He played his first odi in 2002 and his last in 2015 which is a longer stretch than Kevin Pietersen’s test career.

    • @DJR1409

      @nikhiltalgeri5910 12 дней назад

      @DJR1409 lol... he last played an ODI 9 years back . His last T20 was more than a decade ago. The point being raised is about longevity and not quality.
      His longevity has DEFINITELY been helped by him being a one-format player

    • @nikhiltalgeri5910
      @nikhiltalgeri5910 12 дней назад

      And so I don't see a Bumrah or a Cummins play at 41 if they continue to play 3 formats + global franchise.
      Jimmy plays one format, mostly at home, so his longevity is an overrated attribute. He is an all-time great, no doubt, but people talk up the wrong qualities

    Anderson had the privilege of playing for England,A country where Test cricket still holds a high regard.
    That's not the case with rest of the world. So I don't see any other fast bowler playing past 40.
    Quitting White ball cricket is a major reason for his longitivity. If had played white ball cricket and franchise cricket,he would have already retired by now.
    I don't think anybody else doing that especially in this era where T20 cricket is the money maker.
    So I don't see anybody following Jimmy's footsteps.
    It's too risky in this day and age especially if you're not from England or even Australia.
