What this lady said, and the way that she said it, was so sincere and deeply felt that it brought the whole thing alive in front of my eyes. Thank you so much for this👏👏
Quite possibly one of my favourite paintings, Blue over Red I remember seeing it for the first time as a boy. One of my English teachers brought us art books in the 5th grade. It instantly mesmerised me. Malevich is also a pioneer, probably even more then Rothko.
Dear Lisa Dennison, thank you so much for bringing Mark Rothko close to me in such a fine way, like friends talking about an Artist they both admire. People count me to the transavanguarde painters but Rothko is one of my "friends" who "visits" me on a regular basis. I hope to see more videos with you in the near future, Greetings from Austria, Christian Tettinek. Please excuse my bad english writing!
I'm not an emotional, sentimental, touchy'feely, don't tear up at tug the heart commercials kinda guy, ...but this Blue Over Red piece, does make me aware and acknowledge a sliver minuscule smidge of feeling in me and for me, that's big. So it's an ok painting,
So you guys say that if I shit on a a canvas...you guys can still sell it for a million dollars...you are amazing man ....who cares about buying a ferrarri or a rolls royce when you can actually buy shit....
It's difficult to forget or ignore the time when legitimate art "experts" couldn't tell which of several abstract paintings was created by a chimpanzee. The human mind is incredibly predictable. All it takes is being told. Just the suggestion that something is deep and meaningful, and created by a great artist. Then, human nature does the rest of the heavy lifting. And voilà....chef-d'œuvre! Is it a coincidence that abstract painting is the preferred outlet for 1st year talent-lacking art students who are much better suited to a career in retail sales? Abstract is often, but of course not always, the Lady Gaga of the art world. An interesting novelty which the majority find entertaining, and bend over backwards to celebrate, adore, and find deep meaning within. Most especially those who have never held a brush.
It's funny that you say that. I mean I am fascinated by Velazquez, specifically Las Meninas and his portraits of the Spanish Royal Family, but you don't get the point. As soon as photography was invented, exact representations of the human figure were easy to come by, rendering painting near obsolete and driving prices up. However, abstract painting came along. It conveyed emotions, scenes from nature, mythology, even portraits. The fact that art didn't have to be exact allowed for new kinds of represenations of beauty and color. Art is so much more than an exact picture, it captures the feel of something. And this is what Rothko and his contemporaries in various movements were still able to do.
Art is in the mind of the beholder , some of the best art work i ever saw was the wall of my friends basement flat in Brighton England. It transcended anything Rothko produced . It was constantly evolving and cost nothing . The other problem was when the landlord decorated it was lost forever . Or was it ....
I love how goofy-looking he was. Ted Cruz on downers. This is one of his best not featuring the color red. Perhaps his very best. (Honest review. Will probably be removed for honesty). Seriously though, it's a gorgeous painting. Just look at it.
Rothko didn't pioneer anything except putting big fuzzy blocks of various colours on top of other big blocks of colour, Malevich pioneered Abstraction along with other Russian Modernists... Glad to help...

With all due respect, but even the title is rubbish. The pioneer was Clyfford Still. People working at Sotheby's or Christie's etc. are like car dealers. We should never believe what they promise.
1 - Art galleries have been known to hang his paintings upside down 2 - Blue stripe would work in the inverted format 3 - I have painted a dozen or so Rothkos - smaller format but up to 5ft x 4ft 4 - Why do American women have a voice that would strip paint off a canvas?

sotheby is transforming painting into real estate
Rothko is my favourite!
I read that you actually feel it when you're at about 3ft away not from a far view. Very beautiful paintings with emotions through hues.
Beautiful painting!
I just saw the PBS special on him. So eye opening. I saw some of his work at LACMA.
LACMA yes I was amazing

The power of marketing ladies and gentlemen
Are you suggesting that if someone else painted some colorful rectangles it would definitely hang on the auspicious refrigerator?
Jealous much?
@@uberglamazon more like pure admiration, for the marketing team. 👍😎
Great Video!
Only thing missing is the all encompassing artistic word that leads up to an etherial experience and that word is ”EVOKE".. .
