  • Uniden Xtrak 50 Smart UHF radio & ACCX50 car kit 1st thoughts and review.
When it comes to 4wding and exploring communications are a vital necessity. We have been using Uniden UHF radios for a long time and have 100% trust in the quality and reliability of Uniden uhf radios.
Recently when looking for a new handheld uhf radio we came across Uniden’s latest addition, the XTRAK50. This is a full 5w 80 channel handheld uhf that is packed full of features.
The XTRAK50 has up to a 17km range thanks to being 5w in power. It has a run time of up to 30 hours with its large 2700 mAh lithium battery. A large OLED display that displays info clearly and easy to see.
Built rouged and tough it is IPX7 rated water proof, the XTRAK will handle the elements you will through at it. Clear and crisp sound quality with its 2w speaker. Also backed by Uniden with a 3year warranty.
It does everything and more that you would expect from a uhf radio.
    • 5w 80 channel with the ability to switch to 1w for power saving
    • OLED display that is dimmable
    • Open / group scan with a priority channel watch
    • Voice scramble
    • VOX hands-free compatible
    • Key lock
    • Instant replay key so you won’t miss a transmission
    • Programmable smart key (instant channel, call tone, monitor mode or equaliser)
    • Master scan for uninterrupted communication
    • Shared channel quite filter
What’s in the box? The XTRAK 50 comes with everything you need. The Xtrak 50 unit itself. Detachable antenna. 2700 mAh lithium battery. Charging cradle with both Ac wall and DC car cables. Belt clip. Speaker mic and earpiece mics are also both included.
One of the main reasons we decided to go with the XTRAK50 is because we were able to get the ACCX50 Car kit to make this handheld radio a vehicle mounted solution.
The ACCX50 includes a 2.5 DBI magnetic mounted aerial that easily screws into the top of the Xtrak 50 extending its range. Easily mounted with its 3m thin cabling. A slim DC charging cradle and a magnetic mount so you can mount the unit in any convenient spot.
Over all the XTRAK 50 paired with the ACCX50 gives the best of both worlds when it comes to portable and mounted uhf radios. With a strong rugged build quality. Super crisp and clear transmissions. We think the new Uniden XTRAK50 is a great option when it comes to your UHF radio communication needs.

Good video. I’m tossing up between the 5w gme with car attachments over a permanent mounted CB

This was the first time I’d seen a car kit for a handheld uhf. I think it’s a good option over permanent mounted.
I’ve used Oricom, GME and Uniden radios they’ve all been good. But I keep ending up with Uniden.

Thanks. The only thing they need is USB C charging. Don't think anyone does them yet.

I have been using the equivalent GME handhold system but I connect it to a fixed windscreen transparent aerial. much better reception than the mini magnet aerial and very neat and tidy.

That is a good idea, I did consider that type of aerial as well. I have been using it with just the handhelds aerial and it seems pretty good as well

I live in central Queensland and we only have one phone. I use a GME car UHF for a base station with a GME 2.1 dB Antenna. I have two UH 850s 5W Handhelds and a GME 2W handheld. I prefer using a radio to communicate with my wife. The entire setup cost less than a new phone.

When I’m on my mates farm it’s the same. It’s so good having a good quality hand held uhf

Great video, nice radio for future reference that antenna is too close to the luggage rack that will cause RF to reflect back into the radio. Enjoy the view.

thanks for the antenna info, I’ve been using it with just the handhelds antenna, the range is pretty good even with where I have it mounted on the dash

Having the antenna on the roof, does that extend the range beyond 17klms?
