Resident of Chattanooga here. Moved here in 2003-2015 and moved back in 2021 (we own a house here). In the 6 years we have been gone Chattanooga has sprung out of the ground.....uhhh
...not in a good way. Chattanooga used to be this sweet ""bedroom community" but given the population explosion its just lost its soul. Housing and apartments are springing up everywhere taking up all that beautiful greenspace. Traffic is infuriating. Housing and rent prices are sky rocketing. I hesitated posting this but i think if you are considering moving here, jou should hear all opinions

Chattanooga used to be an affordable and great town, then the word got out. Over the past few years, a mass of upper-income people have moved here who vote differently than the general native population. This has caused a rapid and large increase in the cost of living here, has increased general and violent crime as well as it's footprint. The native population is now having issues surviving, and some of us are being forced to move further away from the suburbs in search of more affordable living expenses. One piece of advice: If you park your car anywhere in downtown, make sure there is nothing of value in plain sight through the windows or your car will be broken into in broad daylight. House prices have doubled, and rent has more than doubled. In order to move here and be comfortable in a two bedroom one bath, the household income should be no less than $200,000. In order to just survive that number can be as low as $80,000, however you will have no discretionary spending. You will only pay your bills and eat. I do not have a positive outlook on the future direction of this town. This outlook pains me as I am a lifelong resident and love this town.

When did they lower our sales tax I don't remember that and they're still charging me 11% everywhere I shop unless I go across the line to Georgia which is what all smart chattanoogans do it's only 6% in Georgia

What about the crime rate? I google crime stats and I see Chattanooga has a high crime rate. I know every city has its issues, but this is a big concern for me especially since I'm moving alone. Any advice you have to offer is appreciated.

Be prepared to defend yourself if need be. Or go somewhere you feel is safer.

Chattanooga downtown feels pretty safe. There are pockets where crime is real bad, but that's true for just about every city. I lived downtown for the past 3 years and overall felt very safe. Check the local crime map and you'll see what areas to avoid.

Да полностью с вами согласен, у нас точно также. Тоже есть места где не очень безопасно, но хотелось бы заметить что мало вирояно кто-то наброситься на вас просто так . Даже пьяным людям нужен какой то веский повод.

the problem is the country itself. It is being run wrongly. when you have people from leaving their states and cities too often and looking for other states and cities to live, it is a concern. Politicians are incompetent all they do is talk, talk and no concrete actions. Corporations raise prices

Also failed to tell people that the lowest rent you're going to find in Chattanooga is about 13 to 1500 a month and that's in the middle of crack and meth town also car insurance is outrageous you're looking at a starter of about 2 to 250 a month for liability

I’m planning to move to Tennessee in 2024 from Colorado. I wanna move to a RED state. I don’t like Colorado since it’s becoming very liberal. I’m a conservative and also a gay man. Will I be welcome to Tennessee
