    Thank you. This was a very helpful video for me.
    I have been studying the language by myself for almost 9 years, 4 of which are very intensive. And I was very upset that I got stuck at the stage of learning kanji. When I was in Japan twice, I didn't have any problems in speaking or listening, because over the years I have accumulated a huge vocabulary. And then one day in Tokyo, I heard a conversation between a first grader child and his mother about which kanji they studied at the school that day. I stopped them then and asked how they learn it. The child replied that they write in textbooks. And his mother added that they are always surrounded by text, so many things are simply intuitively remembered by them. This answer at some point led me to a dead end in the study. I reproached myself very much that I can’t remember more kanji if there are more than 4 similar ones. But after hearing your story, I realized that it’s normal to spend so many years studying 2000 kanji. I set too big goals - 3000 kanji in 3 years - without proper writing practice. And the textbook with kanji bought at that time was still useful to me. It was a little embarrassing to buy a notebook for a first grader, but then I was in despair. And I don't regret anything. Any experience was useful, even if not immediately. 😆

    I've found the best way to learn Kanji is through WaniKani. From around level 20 you can read a newspaper and make sence of most of a book without using a dictionary. When I first started learning Japanese I spent endless hours learning how to write Kanji until I realised I'm never in a situation where I need to write it. Even Japanese are forgetting how to write Kanji after they leave school because everything typed now.

    If you use James Heisig's book "Remembering the Kanji" you can quite easily learn 2,042 kanji in 6 weeks.

    I’m excited to learn Kanji! I already practice writing what I learn many times during the day. My girlfriend is Japanese and we speak in small phrases around the house. I’m lucky to have that environment. Thank you for the videos :)

    I am learning Kanji right now. My Japanese level is very basic so I have a lot to learn. The JLPT level 5 test has a set of basic Kanji to know for the test, so that's where I am starting. I live in Tokyo so I am looking at Kanji everyday and unconsciously associating them with certain businesses or objects. It definitely helps.
    I love your videos! keep up the good work!

    I just finished katakana and hiragana. I now usually write them all everyday as there are no ways for me to apply them in real life at the moment. I practice reading by looking at japanese comments in social media. Hopefully I'm gonna learn kanji faster as it's the most memory demanding.

    9years....My head is exploding 😂 because I already know all the Cantonese Chinese kanji, and I also know Mandarin Chinese, but now I'm learning Japanese, so... I know kanji, in 3 different writing (traditional, simple and japanese) and also have to memorize 3 different pronunciation and meaning for the same word(because many Japanese kanji have a different meaning from the original Chinese character) . Hope I can keep up the interest to learn.. thank you for making the video先生、お疲れ様でした。よろしくお願いします

    thank you for this video! I was wondering if you think it's a good idea to learn vocabulary words before learning individual kanji?

    • @BitesizeJapanese1
      @BitesizeJapanese1  3 года назад +2

      I think you can start learning kanji right after you learnt hiragana and katakana because learning kanji is like learning vocabulary in the japanese language!👍
      If you learn one kanji, you will learn a few Japanese words!

    先生、動画ありがとうございます。読めるけど書けないという人には何がおすすめですか。全く書けないわけではないですが、漢検レベルでいうと読みは2級ぐらいで書き取りは5級ぐらいに過ぎません。最初からやり直すのも時間の無駄だと感じますが、どれが書けないかまずわからないので書けないやつだけ練習するのも難しいです。ご意見いただければ助かります。(大体違う部首を書いたり一画を忘れたりするような間違いです(侵害じゃなくて浸害とか))

    • @BitesizeJapanese1
      @BitesizeJapanese1  3 года назад

      違う部首の間違いや一画を忘れたりする間違いは日本人にもとても多いです!だから気にしないでください!👍☺️
      最近はみんなパソコンで字を書くので、紙に字を書くときはみんなよく間違えますよ!(私もいつも間違えてパソコンで正しい漢字を調べています😅)
      Andreaさんの日本語はとってもナチュラルで上手だと思います!👏書きの練習はそんなにしなくてもいいと思いますよ!
      もし、どうしても書きの練習がしたかったら、日本語で好きな本を買って、それをノートに書き写すのはどうですか?
      書く練習もできるし、キレイな日本語の文章も勉強できると思いますよ☺️👍
      日本語の勉強、がんばってください👏

      Well as far as I know, Kun-yomi is the way a kanji is pronounced on its own, or when its alone.
      On-yomi is chinese pronouciation of the kanji and is used mostly when its combined with other kanji.

    Yeah, its a very time waster to write a kanji down 100-500 times just to learn it. I learened the 2000+ kanji in one year when I was in japan. By learning the radicals, and noticing reoccuring patters in readings and meanings. If you know all the used radicals (214), you can theoretically write all 2000+ down, because they are just combinations of those radicals. And its not even random, they are logical and well structured (okay, there are few exeptions)
    Example: If you know how to write 車(car), 斤(and old measurement, and a really easy and common radical) and 日(sun), you have all the components in your arsenal to write this down: 暫, which means "for a while"
    There are no difficult kanji, only complex ones, and thats what I always say to my students. Dont let the numbers scare you. Its like playing lego, you have a fix number of set pieces, and then you just build them up in different order.
    Writing a kanji down 10000+ times in unnessesary and also stressful... I really dont know why they are still doing that
