Even in this clip on stage you can see Kevin Kline's talent for movement - which the film director and choreographer made full use of for his I Am the Pirate King number, which is filled with acrobatics and athletic feats. Kevin Kline is an all around performer, he steals every scene.
This is easily my favorite version of this song! It feels like the only one where Frederic doesn't over-act. I really like how Rex Smith seems like he doesn't know what's going on until they finally explain the paradox to him, unlike in other versions where he just joins in the musical number and laughs as heartily as them from the beginning. And, of course, Routledge is my favorite Ruth. Great job, all!
+watrever33 But Gilbert and Sullivan is meant to be over acted, that's why it's a comic operetta. It may seem dated to some people, but that's the charm.
Happy Birthday Freddy! When I was 7 I thought this was the cleverest plot device *ever* 😅
Happy 42nd birthday to Frederic! In a century he'll be just about ready to retire. :)
Happy Leap Day!!!

I've never understood how this conundrum could be a pair of ducks, no matter how ingenious they were.
😂😂😂
You and Ruth seem to suffer from the same ailment of hearing loss! 😉
Is this Patricia Routledge? She is absolutely marvellous
Yes it is her. :-)
happy birthday, Frederic!
I was Ruth in my elementary school production of this play, and this was one of my favorite parts, and everyone said I was really good.
My goodness it's Hyacinth Bucket aka Patricia Routledge lol.
Bou-quet!!

Much like Frederick I too love a good paradox.
Jesus, Rex is a gorgeous man.
Ten years later: I agree.
Total snack 😍
2:12 I love how Ruth mockingly mouths the lyrics! 🤣

Me when I laugh at a fart joke/really stupid joke.

+wattever333 That's half the point. I'm guessing you're not familiar with musicals or operettas?

Happy Leap Day
That is why I am here today.
Most of the cast reprised their roles for the film version of the central park production of Pirates of Penzance.
Who is playing Ruth?
Patricia Routledge.
Hyacinth Bucket (it’s pronounced bouquet)
In the Broadway version- he did not grab her boobs!!!😂😂😂
