South India, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, on my third trip to India were my favourite part of India. It's not so crowded and people are much nicer than in the North.

Some places come to mind, Kerala's back waterways, Cape Comorin watching the sun raise and set on two different oceans, O oty the hill station. I really loved Madras! 52 years ago it was not crowed and had many things to do. Clay pot music schools, fantastic restaurants and visiting the Theosophical Society headquarters was very special. Also taking the ferry from Rameswaran to Sri Lanka was fantastic
This is a joy to watch. I retired from travelling in 2009, to settle and marry as I pushed my body as much as I could for 25 years as a pilgrim. Ill be 60 soon, with many health issues to live with, by seeing a fit younger person exploring the real world, not tourist holidays is a real education. That bus you're taking, goes to a bus station where you can find buses to get out of Tirunelveli usually to other cities and states. Talk to the people in the Tea shop or Auto Rickshaw drivers as they are free at the moment and can listen to you and might explain in detail. The people who are walking on a bus or railway staion might be in a hurry to catch a bus or train. You can make use of the technologies called Google Maps and Translate to ease the communication and commute. Tirunelveli is actually a twin-city. After the river you are crossing is called Palayamkottai and the Railway Station is located near Tirunelveli Town.

Tirunelveli is a nice place, brother. I'm also from Tirunelveli. Next time you visit any place, reach out to any college students or someone who is somewhat fluent in english. Not any random person. What really happened is that you were already at the right place , Tirunelveli junction ( Railway Station) is the main spot but you left that and got out of the city. Many places like Nellaiyappar Temple, Tamirabharani river, Science centre, Kutralam waterfall, world famous Irruttukaddai Halwa. All these were just closer to your reach but you missed it. I really felt sorry for you... I wish I was there with you... It is not a dumbest place, brother.

I'm from Telangana. Tamil Nadu is beautiful place with beautiful people. I had to visit Chennai to write my GRE exam back in 2005. When I got out of the bus, I didn't have any clue how to communicate. I went to a near by store and showed the person the address I was trying to go. He helped with find an auto, spoke to the auto driver about the fare and asked me to pay him exactly x amount. The same evening, I went to the near by road side hotel. Didn't know what to order as the menu was completely in Tamil, but I was very hungry. The waiter came to me and due to inferiority complex, I ordered something from the menu. The quantity was so little, I was still hungry. The waiter noticed me and asked about my whereabouts. He asked me if I was still hungry and I said yes. He bought me bigger plate and that filled up my stomach. When I was about to pay, he just charged me for the first plate. I couldn't thank these 2 beautiful people more. Thank you TN. It was my only visit but a memorable visit.

The same evening, I went to the near by road side hotel. Didn't know what to order as the menu was completely in Tamil, but I was very hungry. The waiter came to me and due to inferiority complex, I ordered something from the menu. The quantity was so little, I was still hungry. The waiter noticed me and asked about my whereabouts. He asked me if I was still hungry and I said yes. He bought me bigger plate and that filled up my stomach. When I was about to pay, he just charged me for the first plate.
I couldn't thank these 2 beautiful people more. Thank you TN. It was my only visit but a memorable visit.
