I like how Feyd didn’t really have any ulterior motive for volunteering to be the emperor’s champion. Bro just wanted to fight Paul
It’s alluded to in the movie that Feyd is a fuckin’ psychopath, makes perfect sense that he wouldn’t give a shit about fighting Paul. Great movie!
That's because despite what people think of him Feyd is a good and honorable person. He was only trying to do what he thought was right. In the end, it was Paul and the Fremen who were the evil ones. We support Feyd.
@@costco_pizzauhhhh no? The point of Dune is that there are no heroes. Feyd Rautha was a sadistic and merciless prince who likely would’ve also ruled the Imperium as a tyrant but with a slightly lower body count.
@@costco_pizza Did you even watch the movie?
@@costco_pizza tell that to his servants.
"May your knife fucking break"
It's more than that. According to dune lore, when you die, your kris knife literally chips and shatters. Paul is saying "may you die"
@@bwax3135if I remember the books right the crysknives 1/ need body proximity to stay hydrated (they're semi-organic crystal) 2/ are non-transferable except by winning a fight. So if you die your knife will dry out and _will_ shatter

It’s cool, the stillsuit will process it all.
I don’t know. Do you think he was? He’s so deep in his beliefs. He probably thinks he’s immortal.
@@MikeySkywalkeri think the moment Paul got stabbed definitely was shocking for stilgar. Maybe even made him question messiah's immortality for a second
@darklight5815 in the book during that fight Paul thinks to himself, "if I'm struck down, the Fremen will say, 'the Mahdi became a martyr so that the jihad could continue in his name.' If I win, the Fremen will say, 'no one can stand against the Lisan al Gaib.'"
We all need a hype man like Stilgar in our lives.
If you'd have him as your wingman, the spice of life would be yours.
No
You'll start to hate that hype very soon
Lisan Al Ghaib!
Paul saw him as a lesser man funnily enough, after all this. He lost his edge

*10,000 years.* That's how long the beef with House Atreides and House Harkonnen lasted.
Their feud started after an Atreides accused a Harkonnen Baron of abandoning his post during a war with AI combatants.
Paul is the last Male heir of House Atreides and Feyd is the last male heir of House Harkonnen.
Control of Giedi Prime was given to the people of Caladan after this duel, and under the direction of Gurney Halleck, who was once a slave on that world, its machines of industry were dismantled, its name and those of its cities were changed, and its forests and greenery replanted.
House Harkonnen ceased to be after this duel.
The Atreides. Despite all the odds. Won.
Not exactly what happened. The first Atreides was the son of a Cybernetic general but then defected to fight for Humanity. The Harkonnen name was sullied twice mainly- once when Xavier Harkonnen flew his starship into a star with Iblis Ginjo (a traitor of humanity and a high priest) to kill both of them, but people thought he was a traitor. Again when Abilurd Harkonnen disabled the human fleet’s weapons systems right before the final battle with the machines around Corrin in a skewed attempt to save captive human lives, at the direct ignoring the orders of his superior Vorian Atredies.
So didn't feyd get one of the sisters Prego?
@@stevenstudler5507they did and Feyd's bloodline survived that way. But the House Harkonnen name died with him and his descendants were never allowed to take up the name.
They became embroiled in other Bene Gesserit schemes. Unaware of their ancestors.

Willy Wonka vs Elvis Presley
Paul: "How about we just settle this over a some chocolate?"

😂this comment makes a serious scene into comedic
😂😂
Paul and Feyd are so casual about the fact that they're both technically family fighting each other. I love that aspect. No attempt to sway someone you know won't listen, relations or not. This isn't cousin versus cousin. It's atreides versus Harkonnen first.
Well, of course they wouldn't try to ''sway'' each other, they are bitter enemies afterall. Redundant statement.
That's just a casual Tuesday in -Westeros- the Known Universe
They’re harkonnens, killing each other proves the blood runs true
@@heathbrewster7206 Neither one genuinely cares about the Harkonnen side of things though. Baron Vladimir or Rabban likely would, but not Feyd and ESPECIALLY not small.
One of my fav things about this scene is how scared Gurney Halleck looks at times. You really get the sense that the idea of losing Paul again terrifies him.
That was a great fight scene. I like the there was no background music during the duel. It reminded me of the fight scenes in the Jason Bourne films. The silence, and the aggressiveness of the fighting moves capture the seriousness of the scene and the movie as a whole, and as you go deeper into the film series, the more serious those scenes become. I can see the Dune trilogy capturing that quality, and I hope it continues in Part 3.
A teaser trailer for part 3 has been released.
@stefan13M it's faked.
@@Maverick-nb3rg, thanks for let me know.
I liked that Feyd was shown as actually dangerous. In the book, he's an arena champion and skilled duelist. In the 80s movie, he comes across as a blowhard, playing to the crowd, and Paul is almost toying with him. Here, Paul has precognizance and the Weirding Way, and Feyd damned near kills him anyway.
@@windwalker5765Exactily
Love that corkscrew flip Paul does.
It looks more like a b-twist to me (sorry, I do acrobatics and I enjoyed that touch too)
Me too, it was so clean and quick!! ❤️🙌
I noticed that too, I tried to learn this on my trampoline growing up. Could do just about everything else, but this one evaded me. Pretty tricky to learn.
@@jamesc8722 b-twist with a trampoline, Idk, I learnt on the ground, I first mastered the b-kick, then the no-hand cartwheel and then I started spinning
It’s not yet perfect, though, I’m struggling with getting more horizontal
@@GeorgePark-ce8gk I just had a backyard trampoline growing up, most I could do on the ground was 180 flip, I guess that’s kinda like I no hand cartwheel. I could torque a beast 1080 flip on a tramp, but that’s just what it turned into while trying to learn that corkscrew. Very difficult to stay level like that.
Loved this fight scene.
Unlike the original, no over the top background music and Feyd doesn’t stop to scream “I will kill him”.
Just two peak hand to hand combatants brawling it out.
Maybe my memory of the book isnt up to par... but i think this version of Feyd felt much more competent, he was a mortal fighters, but i didn't feel... threatened by him in book.
But here... Austin makes the most of every single moment he has, many knew he would die... but for a moment there... i really felt things could go different.
@@Alacaelum In the book they mostly circled around each other trying to find an opening to strike. Feyd in the book was rather rambunctious and arrogant, frequently taunting and bellowing at Paul (he at one point tries to use a poisoned needle on Paul). Paul however remained steady and quiet, and only made one retort against Feyd, when he shouted "Treachery", accusing that Paul has poisoned him when he cut him on the arm. Paul just then retorts "Only a little acid to counter the soporific on the Emperor's blade".
The Duel in the Lynch movie is somewhat more truer to the book. But the Villeneuve movie is much more tense and serious. There is also no reason for them to fight in the Lynch movie, Paul just out of nowhere decides he wants to duel him, just because he hates Harkonnens, i guess.
@@Dear1Stupit1Dog Oh yeah... the poison needle in his belt, now i remember that.
I always thought... "how the hell is he trying to prickle him with his belt?", if i remember correctly in the 2000s series they made the needle in the belt, it was so goofy.
This story has many more goofy things than people think or remember... and it doesnt start or end with the "magic sex powers".
@@Alacaelum I like to think that he would have attempted to grab him in a Bear hug and that way stab him with it.
I really hated the duel in the 2000s mini-series, All those lame jump kicks and crap, it was so stupid.
I do admit myself even as fan that there are some really goofy things in the book. Although you lost me with the "magic sex powers", not sure what you are talking about.
@@Dear1Stupit1Dog I didnt read all of Dune, so my knowledge is second hand, but if i remember correctly Duncan's clone for some reason has some strange "powers" that involve sex or there was a group of woman warrior that served Leto 2 that had something like that too.

I like how Paul has a consistent fighting style. Several times he goes for the Achilles tendon in this movie
That was a pretty crazy swipe on the landing of that flip. It's the same flip he does in the first film against the practice dummy. What's really cool is that you can tell it's the same move, but now he is a seasoned combat veteran and he's gotten a lot better. The flip is way higher, tighter spin and he's more horizontal. That is a pretty cool detail.
They renamed it the Atreides tendon after this
Was Feyd that good? Or was Paul playing him like Jamis to make a point to the Court, that if he seems hurt or losing, that he was springing a trap?
@@energyfitness5116 I think Feyd was that good. Paul had no choice but to play dirty like a Harkonen to win (in more ways than one)
@@Robodude_0528 I dunno. He had visions of the fight prior to. He spent years in the desert, Fighting the whole time. Feyd had tons of training and likely skill, but tested vs drugged opponents that couldn't beat him. He had one real opponent opponent and thought his uncle was trying to kill him? Remember Herbert's emphasis on environment shaping adaptation.
"Frankenstein never scared me. Atreides do. Cuz they're _fast."_
A fellow man of culture I see.
Didn't know the story, didn't read the books. The tension really not knowing how the fight might end was incredible. Hadn't had the kind of feeling for a very long time during a movie. Real tension, the threat of real consequences. For me it was absolutely plausible that paul could die. Loved that scene.
Yes exactly my thoughts! And the fact there is no score during this fight makes it more intense. The audience, Fremen and ppl in cinema feel the same intensity that Paul might die.
Oh one more thing, I think Paul has a bit of an upper hand here since he was trained on Bene Gesserit skills for a while. Thus, he can master pain better than Feyd. But idk, I'm just honestly obsessed with the movie 😂
I mean even tho I know the books I really could not see how Paul would turn that one out. I remember thinking in the cinema room “wait is Villeneuve really killing Paul in front of my eyes?” LoL
The single best part of this scene, that really sells the proximity of Paul to losing this fight, is that gasping/hard breathing noise he makes as he grabs Feyd's dagger at the last, and resists.
Dune is about Islam vs whites , it has nothing to do with “ religion manipulation “ as many claim, Paul made his promise and took them to paradise and won against the imperialist whites , this is literally our world now and what is happening right now , it is Islam bs whites
I like how Feyd is seen as a ruthless and cunning psychopath but he also has a twisted sense of honor to him. When faced with a real fight he treats his opponents as worthy combatants. We see it when he fights the last Atredies on Geidi Prime, he was beyond mad when others interfered to help him. We even see him repeat the line “May they knife chip and shatter” to Paul as a token of respect. The only disrespectful thing we see him do to Paul is taunt him using Chani. However this is to goad Paul into an emotional outburst and make a mistake. It is a tactical move, one often used in duels. And when he is finally defeated, Feyd even tells Paul he fought well. I like that little nuance about Feyd, how he is clearly a monster but has is own code underneath that not even the Baron can eliminate. Now this is NOT the Feyd from the books who used poisoned blades and was far from honor. However I like how the filmmaker displays character nuance even slightly in this film. Paul’s rise to villainy, the Bene Gesserit’s plans backfiring, and Feyd’s twisted sense of honor.
He doesn't taunt Paul using Chani in this film does he? I don't see it in this fight scene.
@@LandersWorkshop It is cut from this video, but the actual fight has him calling Chani a pet and threatening her.
Anyone else notice that Feyd sounds like his uncle? Baron Vladimir's nephew indeed.
Please Why me feyd sound like his uncle
Stellan skarsgard himself was surprised when he first heard him talk like that, insanely good acting!!

You fought well, Harkonnen.
Atrieides, Paul is still half Atreides/
the one thing I did not enjoy about this scene is they didnt focus on the emperor giving his blade to feyd. there is such a symbolic meaning behind it imo.
can you explain that further
If I remember correctly the emperor's blade is a Kris knife. An tooth a sha halud which is only supposed to be held by a freemen. And is never supposed to be taken off world
@@ULIMOGA The emperor had backed the Harkonnens in their attempt to destroy the Atreides via the Dune stewardship debacle, giving them his elite army to disguise as their own...
@@ULIMOGA Additionally it was an unfamiliar weapon and advantage to Paul. It's part of Corino symbolism; while the primary Imperial House, they became unwieldy. Feyd may have fought better using his own knife. He took Imperial power through symbolism, Paul through upending the political order by "desert power", alien weaponry to the Imperial Court
@@bluemassgamer17Emperor Shaddam knife was the original blade of the first Emperor. It wasn’t a crysknife.

“Lisan al Gaib!”
"Lead them to Paradise"
Jesus this movie is so f-ing good.
One of the things I love about this fight is that a lot of blade fights in films make too quiet of a sound to the point of were it makes the blades sound almost flimsy.
When blades strike each other its literally a rod of metal striking another rod of metal, so the clang should be loud af.
So hearing the way the blades hit each other at 2:04 gets my blood pumping everytime. It just gives it that much more weight to their strikes.
"a rod of metal striking another rod of metal" Its more like a rod of metal striking a worm's sharpened tooth
Considering Feyd Ratha is fighting an awakened Paul, you have to be fucking impressed with how good of a fighter he is. He almost killed someone who could see into the future.
Paul: "S I L E N C E!"

LOL
It’s a little more spread out in the movie. 😂

Even having read the book I was still on the edge of my seat the first time I saw this. I seriously wondered if they were going to change the ending.
I think they did the right thing here by departing from the book. Most of it was internal in Paul's mind and had a lot to do with him remembering advice from his mentors. It's hard to portray that in film so they went with a more physical fight and tried to tie in some of the themes of Paul being more in the likeness of the old duke than his own father. This is really meant to be his own bullfighting moment. You can literally see the way they make feyd into an enraged animal with his aggressive attacks and battle shouts. He charges as Paul and Paul spins out of the way like a matador. In the end he gets impaled by the bull just like his grandfather.
The knife grab was also a very clever way to capture the essence of the end of that fight while making it something original for the film.
The knife grab struck me as a nice callback to the Gom Jabbar.
I love how they let this fight just be a fight, no overly fussy shot framing or dance-like choreography, not some melodramatic musical score that's meant to make you think about deeper archetypal principles etc.
They just got to work, and it's beautiful.
If anyones not seen the king with timothee hes as awesome as he is here , think thst movie defo helped him with the weapon skills he had
This was the first movie I saw him in a leading role in, and I LOVE that movie. He killed it.
First movie I saw him in overall was Interstellar, which just so happens to be my favorite movie of all time.
2:36 That was cool. I wonder if it was really Chalamet or a stunt double.
It was Chalamet, apparently him and Austin practiced for weeks for that one fight.
I will NEVER not laugh at Stilgars reaction 😂😂😂
Don't forget "Lisan al-Gaib"
This was an absolutely smashing fight! He deliberately got stabbed to feign that he had been disarmed. Then he grabbed the blade of the other knife and guided it into a non-vital area so that he could win the fight with a stab to the abdominal aorta.
I love how they just stare at each other for a couple of seconds
this fight had me on the edge of my seat in the cinema! also, one of the best movies i have ever seen on the big screen! just 10/10 perfect score
Bro that flip was so cool
Anyone noticed how Feyd uses the same move Lanville used in his arena fight, Feyd used Atreides moves against him, but that's all irrelevant, Paul knew exactly move for move how this fight would go, he took the wounds to show he is human he's just really good at being one.💯⚔
I find the end of the fight a bit confusing. Paul has gripped Feyd's knife and has a blade stuck in his shoulder. What did he stab Feyd with?
The blade in his shoulder was the one he was gripping and he stab Feyd with the blades in his chest
Paul: SILENCE
Feyd: 😳
1. Paul gets the first headbutt in because he's been sharpened by months of ferocious desert fighting
2. Feyd draws even and gets the measure of Paul because he's also a born fighter and frightfully intelligent, he trades the headbutt back because he's just that vindictive
3. Paul tries to switch up to acrobatic Fremen moves, he flubs it most likely because he's already fought a huge battle plus the exodus through the desert (and nearly being poisoned to death) so he's surely come to the duel exhausted whilst Feyd is fresh
4. Feyd baits Paul emotionally, it works but not in the way he intends. Paul isn't exactly rocked by the taunts but it surely clouds the spice visions with which he's been running on autopilot since awakening. With that advantage lost, Feyd gets the first stab.
5. Paul is now all but certain to lose but he has now gotten the measure of Feyd, as the Bene Gesserit assess earlier in the film he's a sadist. Paul uses this by placing himself in a weakened position and allowing Feyd to stab him again, obscuring his vision in return so he can get a decisive shot with the other blade.
The best part about this fight scene, is that there will only be better ones ahead in the coming movies, and this one was already so amazing anyways.
Amazing, watch these clips still bring chills to me... even though I watched it in IMax. Such a well made movie... yes I have read all the Dunes books quite a lot. May have altered from the books but the movie is just fantastic!
The moment walter became heisenberg
I liked the character of Feyd a lot, it's a shame we won't get more of him
Both Paul and Feyd start the battle with their knifes in their right hand,
Did Feyd penetrate Paul's body twice? Once in Paul's abdomen on the left side and once in the right shoulder?
At 3:13 Paul somewhere moved his knife to his left hand and penetrated Feyd's abdomen with his left hand with a fatal blow.
Arya Stark approves?
It's insane how much the guy playing Feyd could sound like Stellan playing the Baron.
0:49 I watch the whole movie over again just for this scene lmao
The winner of a knife fight usually ends up in the hospital.
No the quote is,
"In a knife fight, the loser dies on the street; the winner dies in the ambulance."
The next scene, Paul sees the Statue Of Liberty on the beach and realizes he was on Earth the whole time
Great how Paul kills him by using the lesson taught by Gurney in the 1st film when they trained together. Feyd is so busy with his kill, he fails to see Paul's knife strike the fatal blow. Great movies.
Enjoyed the full version, but this cut is superb, especially the fight, it's super quick!
1:45 & 1:52 I love how skinny Paul looks compared to Feyd. Its a little unsettling because of how vicious a fighter Paul is.
Paul is skinny, but having prescience makes him move like a Jedi
Was really hoping Paul would use The Voice on him at the end, like the original movie.
Still good anyway.
No let him do it on his own free will
Off topic but something i like about Paul Atreides and Clarke Griffin is that both characters lead by getting their hands dirty. They learn to adapt in extreme environments and build trust with people they know would kill them. Best of all is that they break traditional customs forging new ways to settle disputes.
For those wondering Clarke Griffin is a character from the TV show "The 100"
That intro sounds like an opening to a greatest dubstep song of all time
Why is the choreography SO GOOD? I wish Lightsaber duels in Star Wars were of this caliber.
i always felt like feyd was playing with him, then caught off guard. Did anyone feel that way?
I WILL BEND LIKE A REED IN THE WIND
One of the flaws of the new movie is the lack of awesome memorable lines. Lynch’s Dune was far superior in that regard. Incredibly quotable film.
It would be cool if this also breathes a new wave into the Dune-84 cult.
Great piece of work!! From F. Herbert, to Chalamet to Villeneuve!!

Too bad the scene was cut into pieces…

@@ApocGuy I already thought it was to avoid copyright problems, however, I wonder wether this really serves the purpose. At least in my country it wouldn't avoid copyright claims.
I Love the contrast of how the Duel begins between The 1984 David Lynch version, The Sci-Fi Television version and This Excellent David Villenueva Remake. In The 1984 version Paul Actually Calls Feyd out and is eager to Fight him. In the Mini Series Feyd calls Paul out and Paul Seems Kind of Worried, In This one Feyd just basically steps up to the challenge and Paul seems indifferent. This and The 1984 version were the best
No dramatic sounds effect for the fight but the most intense fight scene in the movie for the last 10 years
The emperor's daughter was ofcourse worried about her father before the knife fight.
But i wonder if she had to choose who to mary the harken or Paul.
At the end of the fight, Paul takes a knife to the hand …but shows no pain, no feeling of fear allowing him to win the fit…. A recall to the Gom Jabaa scene?
I'm thinking more than a little Rob Roy.
I see Paul trained at the Rob Roy School of Fencing.
My man… I thought the exact same thing 👍👍👍.
The pacing of this entire movie was absolutely flawless.
Love how Feyd basically stabbed himself.
Kind of. I think most of the force comes from Paul. Paul kind of stabbed himself more than Feyd did. He traded a knife wound in a less dangerous spot for a fatal knife wound on Feyd
Honestly I think this is what Feyd wanted even more than the throne, a worthy adversary that even if he was defeated, he could accept dying at the hand of an enemy he respected
The Saga of Dune is far from over
Paul honoring Duncan & Jamie..using there salute 👌
I will love you as long as i breathe - what a line before making the cold hard decision
I loved how much I was shitting my pants during this in theatres
He looks and sounds SO MUCH like the baron when Feyd says "Cousin....? Is that right?"
2:36
In the cinema I thought this move was needlessly slow and ineffective. But here I see that Paul wanted to immediately hamstring Feyd after the jump. This whole fight was pretty smart actually.
Good lord Florence Pugh is beautiful
Yeah, I'm taking her over a petulant pouting Zendaya any day of the week.
Never a second of doubt in the mind of Stilgar lol
Why does it sound like Florence Pugh’s lines were recorded in post instead of on microphone on the stage?
Awesome fight choreography! Will the producers be introducing the Ix, Ordos or Tleilaxu in the sequel?
That's how the boy became emperor.
The only thing that this scene needs is more cowbell
what did feyd say at the end?????
"You fought well Atreides."
@.stefan13M Which is a good callback to the first fight we see Feyd in.
Feyth is dead. Emperor Shadam had no more champion to defend his right. Either he dies right there, or kneels (resigns as Emperor and is sent to the prison planet Salusa Secundus). If he kneels, Paul then marries princess Irulan, his daughter; so de facto, the bridge between the House Corino dynasty (Emperor’s Shadam IV family) and the House Atreides dynasty (Paul Muabdid family) could be established, sealing the path for Paul to ascent to the Emperor throne in the eyes of the other great Houses of the Landsrrad (the Commonwealth of most powerful planets in the known Universe).
Paul gets that legal right by marrying Irulan, thus joining sons and daughters of royal blood from two of the greatest Houses in the Landsrrad. By doing so he rightfully inherits the throne and since he is now also a Fremen, the great Houses of the Landsrrad (which forces are above orbiting Arrakis awaiting the unfolding event between the defeated Emperor Sardukkar troops snd the victorious Muabdid Fremen troops.
Once Paul obtains the hand of Irulan, he gets the throne; becomes the Fremen Messiah; takes control of Arrakis to become the center of the Universe (controlling the most precious substance in the Universe: the Spice Melange, which allows interplanetary travel without moving and extends live by eating it allowing people to live 2 hundred years or more).
