I love P-47's and as a Brazilian modeler I'll build a 1/48 version of the 1st Brazilian Aviation Group called "Senta a Pua", in Italy, 1944. But I have to finish 2 P-47's in 1/72 scale...

I built this kit a while ago. I agree with you about the black and white invasion stripes always looking cool on model planes of that time period. The off-yellow tail looks nice too. I just didn't put the pin-up girl decal on the nose.

Hi Paul, happy to see you with a aircraft on the bench, I hope you have a great time building this beast, I did see one 'in person ' many years ago in Auckland NZ, but the museum no longer has it, and it was a beast, good luck for the build, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍

Great Unboxing, built two of the trumpeter 1/32 kits the P51 and the Hellcat great value for money and fun to build , my only complaint was i found the hellcat kit decals to be poor they were very thin and broke up very easily.

I recently built the Hasagawa F6F-5 Hellcat and P-51D Mustang to add to my classic 1/32 scale collection (built the Revell F4U-1D Corsair and P-47D bubble top Thunderbolt as well). Next up is the Revell P-38J Lightning. The Hasagawa kits weren't a bad build at all but neither were the Revell for that matter.
I've seen and read good things about this Trumpeter P-47 kit. Only minor issues with accuracy but overall a very good build can be had. One major complaint I've read was that the very detailed turbocharger gets buried inside the fuselage so if you want it displayed you need to cut panels and open it up. Same thing with their P-38L but this time it's the engines that are buried inside the booms with no access panels to be had. 😮

Enjoyed that rummage through the box ! The "Jug" had a 2000 hp Turbo-Supercharged Pratt&Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine (it was a beast) If I can ever finish my Fw-190 I'll start my Hasegawa P-47 :)

So many options for how one might build this well-detailed kit. I generally prefer in-flight. If I could, I would acquire at least two, the second to convert to a replica of the Republic P-47M Thunderbolt USAAF High-Altitude Interceptor-I rather doubt we will find Trumpeter ever boxing such a kit-the hunter of the Messerschmitt Me-262 Schwalbe Luftwaffe Jet Fighter. Now THAT would make a truly exciting airborne display!
Years past had I built one of Revell AG’s 1:72nd-scale kit of the latter; much more recently, I saw a RUclips build video of Tamiya’s 1:48th-scale kit of the late-war Republic P-47M variant: “Tamiya 1:48 | P47-M Thunderbolt | Full Build Video” (Mach Models, Thursday, 10 November, 2022).
You say this is a large kit: Trumpeter round a decade past (I do not recall to any certainty) had issued a couple Republic P-47D kits in 1:24th-scale, one an early “Razorback” in olive drab over neutral grey, the other a later-war variant in natural metal with the teardrop canopy.

    Hi Paul
Another brilliant review of a very impressive Trumpeter kit. Although I don’t build aircraft ( I concentrate on post war MBTs) I really have noticed how much this companies kits have improved in the last few years as opposed to Tamiya who I personally think are getting a little lazy. I have just finished a Russian T90 which I bought on line for basically half price the parts count is over 1100 no flash 3 frets of photo etch and went together like a dream. I have also just purchased the Meng Cheftain on the recommendation of Nigel’s modelling bench and it’s at another level keep up the good work look after yourself cheers David
