You are so very super and such a good feeling human being! Your reflecting on your AT hike and making your adjustments to your normal life now, will help you along the way. You are doing such Great Things in your life! Love you! Your smile and your energy are gifts to us all. Thank you!

I think I’ll always have to have some sort of “goal”….I totally understand what you’re talking about. As section hikers, we love the planning and anticipation. As soon as we get home we can’t wait to plan and hike the next!

You’re young yet. Try not to get stuck in a place you don’t feel passion. I was a nurse for 30 years but always wanted to play percussion and hike. Follow your heart. The indoors and the rat race are stressful. We get out and walk everyday. If not, my autistic adult son is not mentally settled. Nice you’re running. Swimming was my thing. Goals seem to help people getting back to the real world.😊❤

I am thru hiking next year, and I want to set myself up to be ready for the after hike period. Do you think there is anything that can be done before the hike is over (or even started) to make that transition home less chaotic or easier to adjust to?

My best advice is to take a couple months off after your hike before returning to work. It will help you decompress from the hike. And don’t feel like you have to go back to the same job or even the same home (if you have the freedom to choose). Sometimes change is good, especially after you’ve been out on the trail. And don’t be afraid to reach out to your hiking family when you get home; they’ll be going through the same post-hike transitions and will be good sounding boards!

@@cobwebroseonthetrail2447 thank you! There will definitely be other retirees out there, so I will try to make some connections
