finally hearing straight from the actors about how the show was treated really breaks your heart... NBC really mistreated them. Dan Harmon had to pay with his OWN money for music used on the show: The lack of promo. I'm jsut glad they are being acknowledged now on netflix!
It was so horrible how Community was treated. 30 Rock was around the same time period and had not-so-great ratings, but it was never treated like crap or was in danger of being canceled.
For its S4, NBC pushed Community from October to February for its return. So its Halloween episode was on Valentine's Day.
I think Community is having a renaissance on Netflix. It's still on Hulu, I believe.
The Darkest Timeline I mean I love 30 rock. But community deserved better. But like what Joel, Ken, and Gillian said. Without the difficulties, the show might not have been as good.

monokhem I don't work in the entertainment industry but I think what you're describing is how you make a "tv show"
30 had multiple sets. liz lemons home, jacks office, the sound stage. how many times has 30 rock gone off studio to shoot a scene outside? lots! A full muppets episode. 2 Live shows!
they had tons of guest stars. Matt Damon, James Marsden, Princess Leia, Oprah. And don't forget Alec Baldwin was in EVERY episode.
Parks and Rec. Multiple sets, multiple guest stars, shitloads of off site shoots
The Office is probably their most lucrative tv show. But I think we can all agree how it was like beating a dead horse after Steve Carrell left. Just lazy writing and poor character development.
Yes none of these shows had a paintball episode every season. But i'm sure if Tina Fey asked, Daddy Lorne Michaels woulda delivered!
Community dared to go high concept and delivered time and time again. Isn't that something that should be rewarded? Maybe if Community got the proper promo, the network execs could have made more profit? I mean we can see how popular Community has become since being available on Netflix.

I like how Ken adressed the chemistry between Gillian and Joel. It is so under appreciated. It was always funny and organic everytime they shared a scene.

Seeing ken realize that Dan paid for music really hit. You can tell, he felt upset that Dan had to do that, but grateful that Dan had so much faith in all of them to help fulfill the story.
It always blows my mind when Ken Jeong goes into his "doctor mode" and starts throwing out big words like "biology" and "digestive system" we get it Ken, you're a doctor and way smarter than all of us.
To bad he's giving out misinformation by his own definition of misinformation.

If you watch the extras in the Season 6 DVD, there's a Community Trivia thing where they ask the cast and crew trivia about Community's run-- The only person who scored higher than Gillian Jacobs was Dan Harmon himself.
So yeah, she remembers things.
The love she has for the show is amazing. Sometimes I watch actors from my favorite shows in interviews and you can tell they remember nothing about their shows, like the shows/experience weren't important enough to stick with them, and with her it's the opposite.

Joel deserves to play the main role in some big superhero movie. I still hope that the Russos didn't give him a cameo in the MCU because there are bigger plans for him. Although being the lead in the Community movie is way better, I'll take that over any superhero film (it could be both, actually).

I think at the end of the day that P&R was just more accessible than Community bc Community was such an odd, yet incredible, show. Joel did say that he auditioned for Star Lord so it's obvious that he would like the success that Chris Pratt has now.

Gillian is actually super cool
I love Britta in season 6. They just let her do whatever and it made the character so much better IMO. Britta's always my favourite character but she made season 6 so much funnier even from the first episode
One thing that I've come to appreciate of Community, is the diverse group of actor's/characters. Back in 2009 when this show was created, that would've been unheard of. If the show aired right now or somewhere in the past 3/4 years, it would be applauded by critics/fans for its diversity. Similar to the way Brooklyn Nine-Nine and others have been. Seeing how this show started in 2009, and Dan Harmon had the brilliance to cast a pretty diverse cast, this show and everything about it (and forgive me for what I’m about to say), was definitely streets ahead!

Loving the podcast. I hope you guys stick with it. These things tend to take time to get your footing and you guys are already killing it! My favorite podcast (MBMBAM) didnt really hit their stride until about 100 episodes in.

hearing them talk about their ratings and the constant threat of cancellation and how they feel and felt about it, just makes me feel prouder that I watched the show since it's original air date, I remember watching specifically for Joel because of The Soup and sticking around because it was unlike anything I was watching or had watched before, I got my friends into it, supported y'all at comic con, and getting to see all the memes and discussions now because of Netflix that should have happened way back when it first aired, I just feel so happy for y'all that you're getting the recognition now. also getting to experience the Twitter feeds from the show when they were actually active was amazing lol.
