love the intro "reason why u wanna learn photoshop so u can draw FISH"
i laughed out loud here on the intro. how many times we artist get ourselfs searching strange references or videos trying to draw specific objects or creatures. not on the case of this one but this joke can only make sense for artist to artist and i thank you for that. i've come here to learn something and i learned not just something new but fish too! win and win
This reminds me of a drawing I made as a kid.
It was just a bunch of random looking fish, and it was probably the most I ever enjoyed drawing. Just being silly and letting my creativity take over.
While I stand on the deck of a shipping vessel, your tutorials always encourage me to explore new depths of my own art.
Creating iterations can be super challenging, because you gotta stretch your ideas into ways that still make sense, but also enjoyable to see what works and what doesn't. I like super detailed designs so I often take more time and energy on iterations than I probably should π
This helped me get out of a slump, thanks Trent.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
HECK YES!!! I've been waiting for a bit of fishing minigame confirmation! xD And of course I love creating fish, and fishfolk. This will be the best addition to the box sets!
This is amazing tutorial, Thanks !
One suggestion, could you make a serie of challenges like "Draw Fishes Concept arts", etc ?
Great tutorial! This could work for traditional artist too.Just draw row of fishes on paper, photocopy it ; and color them.
Love all the videos and courses, they have helped me in my art journey immensely. Do you think you may put together a course that would cover the process of getting a character brief and designing the character based on that brief? Process of creating mood boards, silhouettes, design, etc.?
Thatβs covered in my character design workshop in great detail.
@@TrentKaniuga Awesome, I'll check that out! Thank you
The Best in the Business.! ππ
Thank you for always inspiring me to continue to learn and paint! Love your work and tutorials
Great guide to process. I will be watching this multiple times.
This is great for ideation and concepts! For in-game asset i would aproach it as making sets of heads, bodies, tales and fins. Make sure they tilable with each other. That way you would be able to generate a lot of different fish without commiting too much time
As for artistry, using that method, you could make different tiers for each body part, so some would be rarer.
Also this method is good for animations, as you could reuse them for different fish
I believe Castle crashers pulled off that technique
What you said at the end about coming up with reasons for why the fish are certain colours reminded me of when I was in college and I was playing around with a Transformers fan fiction set during the beginings of the war for Cybertron, bare in mind I'm 36 now so this was way before the highmoon games came out. I was thinking about what civilian life on Cybertron would look like as Megatron began his campaign to overthrow the Cybertronian government. I even thought about how Cybertronian flora and fauna would look and how would it all work in a cybernetic ecosystem. Wish I had followed through with it but who knows I might go back to it some day.
Can you redesign pomni from the amazing digital circus
Thanks for all the great tips! I use Affinity these days due to the $$ of Adobe but the core concepts are all the same regardless of the software. There's TONS of good stuff in this video!
Just a tip about drawing fish fauna: not all fish has fins and not all that has fins are fish πAlso, remember the eels and morays, and some sharks too π¦
thank you for this tutorial! this feels like a super secret hack! i dont know much about shading in greyscale, do you have a detailed tutorial on shading in greyscale?
You want to practice the fundamentals of using value to convey lighting. I talk about it in depth in my Easy Art Lessons. www.gumroad.com/trentk
How is the hand doing after the dog attack?
After 2 weeks, the wound is finally nearly closed. The dog had lifted about 1 inch of my skin clean off of the muscle, so its taking a while. Fortunately it seems like its mostly just the dermal layer. no damage to the nerves, bones or muscle tissue. But it will certainly leave a scar that is about 1/2 inch in size. The hardest part is that I can't lift weights till its completely closed up! Thx for asking about it. Much appreciated.
Oh man I miss the old salsa music in the intro of your videos π
Agreed
first!?
Also good tips as always!
