Mechanical engineering is the design and manufacturing of mechanical systems. You'll want to have a strong interest in advanced math and physics if you go into this major. Mechanical engineering is one of the most versatile of the engineering disciplines because of all the fields you can go into. Mr._. M.S.O we do man but you know what kids do when you show them a video like this? They be on their phones going through IG. I mean, these kids don’t even communicate bruh. One day the power went out and for the next 45min, the kids were on their phones instead of talking to each other or playing. The teachers, counselors or even the system are not at fault for some of the bad decisions these kids make on a daily basis. These are stuff that should be taught from home but I guess the parents don’t have time to talk to their kids about their future so they give them phones, video games and stuff to get them distracted. Teachers are not responsible for everything my man. I’ve done a lot more than teaching and some kids get it and some others don’t. I think that’s why I have decided to go for engineering

INSTEAD of being quiet and being patient, the kids were on their phones bloody playing games and texting they didn't even care, even in class when I'm trying to study every kid is not playing attention and being stupid. Only like a few people I know study hard and want to become something in life. So ur right teacher do show this but the kids don't CARE!
@@TheMaxAbe I see where you're coming from but that doesn't excuse the crappy American education system. And one of the reasons I think students are on their phones is because the classes are not engaging enough. Basically, it is ok for a student to use their phone to post a video of their physics model demonstrating one of Newton's laws on Instagram or to use it for a calculator/google. It's up to the student if they want to learn but the American education sucks.

Zoomer here, this is slightly true but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to learn about it. Probably the way you approach the situation, my class actually participates with the activities instead of just watching a video, my teachers break it up into parts instead of throwing thing at us constantly
Before I've became a Mechanical Engineer, I thought the field was just about machineries but I was wrong. Mechanical Engineering is the broadest engineering field that is all about Energy transformation. Mechanical Engineers are what you call Energy Engineers since we are the only ones in the Engineering field capable of transforming various kinds of energy to another forms (thermal, kinetic, fluid, some electrical such as motors and robotics, fuels, natural energies, and so on).
With this, we Mechanical Engineers should be the ones leading the energy issues of the world.
right now we have idiots leading the energy issues of the world. these idiots are driven by their feelings mostly.
Can you get into Mechatronics and Robotics without an actual Engineering degree?

Yes yes yes you're spot on. This is probably one of the best idea about Mechanical engineering. This is exactly what happens even in machinery. First energy is converted from other sources into Mechanical energy which will probably be in form of rotary motion and torque, then this motion is transmitted, modified and transformed if need be into other motion forms, the mechanical energy is then applied to do work. The different machine elements obtain their functions (or their so-called design intent) from their relationship with the different energy transformation processes going on within a Mechanical system.

I totally feel you. My first year was hell on earth, I got so depressed and stressed out but once I was done with mathematics and all the other nasty stuff, it got fun and enjoyable. I forgot to mention that there are a lot of great educational videos on platforms like RUclips and khan academy, the key is finding out which learning style works for you and makes learning enjoyable. Associating real life everyday stuff to what you're learning also makes the process more enjoyable. I also recommend meditation especially when you feel like your brains are fried and in zombie-mode. You're on this amazing journey and you can make it. I'm rooting for your success.

Rhea Cruz Speaking from personal experience, my first year was the worst, but I promise you it gets better. So just hang in there and don't give up just yet. Do you have a study partner? really helps a lot to have someone to discuss things with especially on those days when all you want to do is give up, preferably someone with a positive outlook and discipline :)

Chad Erbe how was it? Im worried that i womt be able to keep up with the math aspect as right now im doing A-level maths i got the highest grade last year because of the immense amount of recources and practice questions available, will this be the same for engineering?
Once you pass all your math theory classes (calc 1,2,3, physics, and diff.eq) it's all equation application. So you learn when to use certain equations based on application. If you are organized and are dedicated you should do great! Others will naturally be better than you and faster. But nothing can replace hard work, practice, and persistence. Cheers bud

I changed my major cus my current major Rn aviation administration had much more teachings about planes. I only picked mechanical engineering cus that school didn’t offer aviation related subject. Basically I switched my major and my college.

Asher Alexander hey, I'm going to the 3rd year here in Brazil (M.E. is 5 years in here) and I strongly recommend you take notes before going to college on Analytical Geometry, on R2 and on R3, Introduction to calculus and functions, as in basic math too, because the biggest mistakes us undergrads do on calculus is not about derivative or some other topic learned in calculus itself, but in basic math, as in ln3 * ln5 = ln15. Here on RUclips there is a lot of channels that talk about these topics and the rest is up to you. Good luck on your course!
As an old Electronics Engineer myself , I consider Mechanical Engineering is my boss so it is the one who make it successful business or make it fail down bottom and Electronic Engineering has nothing to play in whatever hi-tech can bring with... So DAMN THE MECHANICAL ENGINEER.....

Always been interested in mechanical engineering, the problem is my math skills like most people. I was one of those kids taught by teachers who were already spread too thin, but ultimately i gave up on advancing my skills once i felt like i fell behind, and that was my fault. The Brightside is, you can always pick up where you left off, and Nower days math tutorials are just on another level on YT.
You can absolutely learn math, I was very intimidated going into the math classes for engineering, and would think how am I going to ever understand this? Then after a week or two of going to class, the teachers piece it together in small bites that are easy to pick up. Do that for a while and pretty soon you’ve learned calculus!

Keep in mind I always had very bad grades in math but in my 12th year of high school I had the highest grade but it dropped because covid. But I know I can be good at math because when I was kid I knew multiplication tables and divisions tables by heart and could answer any question a teacher asked me
This degree sounds exactly like what I'd like to major in!! Ever since I was little, when asked what I wanted to be when I was older, I always said "an inventor" and would draw "invention" ideas in my journals my mom bought me. As I got older, I always had an interest in physics topics on RUclips and watched many physics related videos just out of boredom or for curiosity. I also naturally gravitated towards movies with physics/space related themes such as Interstellar or Triangle. As I've gotten older I've also had time to contemplate what exactly math is and how it applies to our universe and develop an appreciation for the beauty/abstraction of it. So happy to have finally found what I want to do on a heart level, not just on a financial level

That's awesome! I honestly feel the same way! I am intimidated by math but I have realized how valuable it is and that with enough work I can get better at it! I have always loved building and designing things!
I study computer science but i want also to learn some new stuff in Physics and Mechanical Engineering. Because i watched also plenty of documentaries about physic and about big Names like Da Vinci or Galilei. So in future when i just work 2 hours daily(because of my side hustles Money), i can put 1 hour daily to learn this new fields.
The cool thing is the 3 fields are combining fluently together/ adding together.
I had a very very similar childhood, and realization that I wanted to be an inventor. Watching this video and hearing your testimony I now know for certain this is what I wanna do. Thank you🥹🙏🏾

As an ME who graduated 30 years ago, it is interesting to see the similarities and differences now and then. One big difference is that back then Mechanical Vibrations was an elective for undergrads and was taught at a 500 level. It was a very difficult class and it was heavily involved with partial differential equations, often a system of them. The grad students had difficulty, and for the undergrads it was a nightmare.

I feel like the reason mechanical engineering can do so much is that it’s the basis of all labor, something so needed in our world due to the extreme demand for fine arts and the lack of trade. I will definitely take this corse, of something like it when I get to college. We humans, are a race of builders, and mechanical engineering will be found or needed in whatever we do.

4th year of college, second year of mechanical engineering. It’s going to be rough, tons of math and science, you are going to get back bad test grades, life is going to happen. But the key thing is to not give up. If you really aspire to do it and make it. Then you can. Going to be a 6th year senior but that’s just it. Move at your own pace and find a method and stick with it!

Very well presented. The building is called Taipai 101 and its in Taiwan not Japan. When the wind frequency coincides with the natural frequency of the bridge, a phenomenon happens called resonance. Resonance destroys mechanical and structural components. This is the most comprehensive presentation of Mechanical Engineering I have ever seen. Well done and God bless.

Keep going!!! I was researching and preparing for what i wanted to be in the future at 15/14 too, i was extremely serious about it, whilst others thought i was doing too much. But you’re not, you’re prepared and you’re taking these precautions which will help you in the future, you’ve got this! Im now 17 going Uni next year for mechanical engineering , since I’ve already applied. I wish you luck! Everything you do now will help your future!!

You are missing the main parts of mechanical engineering.Creativity and artistic power. Without being creative you cannot design and build any car or engine or any vehicle.
The best engineers are people who are logical enough to do all the math and science and... well have an artistic streak like you said. I graduate with my degree in the spring (:

I’m in year 8, doing year 11 specialist math and I am exceptional in my science/physics classes and just a few weeks ago my science teacher recommended for me to study physics and engineering in a more depth environment outside of school. My whole life I have been curious about how electronics devices and general everyday appliances worked efficiently. I hope to one day be one of the people that make life more easier for the human race with more advanced technology soon to be invented. This video helped me a lot to know what to study and what to expect in a few short years. Thank you for this video.

I'm planning to go into mechanical engineering because I really just wanna build cool stuff and that's what it'll allow me to do but that's pretty much all I know, this has both eased my fear and made it grow but it was 100% understandable and for that I thank you, most of these videos explain things with a bunch of jargon I don't understand and assumes I already know basic things but I don't my highschool didn't even teach physics or pretty much anything so I've got a lot of catch up work to do but this is all I wanna do and my autism physically won't let me back out so let's go

Honestly, this is the major with more oportunities there is, by far. Not only you have huge amounts of options for different fields (cars, energy generation, mining, cooling systems, food production, etc etc etc etc) but also you have a lot of different jobs you can do (maintenance, manufacturing, control systems implementation, design, redesign (improving something), energy eficiency, cfd/fea analysis, vibrational analysis, piping design, selling of different mechanical products, and probably a couple more)

Only if you are good at it. Just because the options are there, doesn't mean you have those options. Dont get wrapped up in job opportunities and yearly pay when going into engineering. Make sure you REALLY enjoy math and physics or have extreme work ethic to do something you dont enjoy.
You'll also have so many opportunities to learn more while you sit around unemployed eating cheese balls

I used to work retail, now i'm just about to start my final year. I'm getting mechanical engineering and applied mathematics. At my school the applied math degree is 7 classes beyond whats required for the engineering degree and since i'm doing it in 5 years I thought "why not". As far as the math required for the classes goes, I haven't had to do anything beyond some integrals so far.

Mrwaffleandmilk I've heard many engineers tell me that in their careers they don't actually do much math like they do in college. it's mostly computer programs doing all the calculations for them. In college they'd do alo t of Math, but after college, the math is almost never used
Mrwaffleandmilk I get you, because engineering is about problem solving, so you would still use some concepts from math right? because you'd still have to have an understanding of how the computer programs do the calculations in order to test the accuracy of it
Reggie Rap exactly, as even a computer makes mistakes. As an engineer it’s our responsibility to ensure and recognize an issue before it goes into an accelerated phase of development.
Go into a major that gives u a focus on your first day. Then your experience will become more valuable & you will be more satisfied knowing exactly your direction.
Mechanical Engineering focus depends on your employment & if u are lucky to keep your job in the same field.
Other majors in engineering generally have a focus by itself on the first day in college unlike mechanical engineering.
Chemical engineering focus is always around process.
Civil engineering focus is construction of buildings & structures, vibrations of structures, hydraulics of dams & canals.
Aerospace engineering is aerospace engines & fuselage structure ..
Avionics Engineering is electronics & controls of aircraft.
Mechanical is general with no focus.
Computers science graduates have an edge in programming including robots & automation.
Electrical engineers have an edge in control engineering.
Process engineers know the requirements of controls better.
Mechanical engineers are useful helping different areas.
Chemical Engineers are better trained to manage power plants & pipeline engineering.
Welding Engineering is a specialized area by itself.
Chemical Engineers are also involved in process equipment selection & design & thermal design.
Structural engineers are more involved in vibrations than Mechanical engineers.
Instrumentation is electronics, testing& controls.
Automotive engineering is a specialized area by itself.
Biomedical engineering is s specialized field with its own degree. Prosthetic design is not mechanical engineering specific.
HVAC is a specialized area common to more than one major. Generally two year associate degree is enough in this field.
Mechanical Engineers should pick up their study plan based on interest & established specialized areas in the industry.
Specialized areas include:
Power plant thermal & mechanical design,
mechanical production & industrial engineering,
mechanical & machinery design, drawings, vibrations & stress analysis .
Pipeline & storage tank & pressures vessel engineering u learn at job.
Most of it is drawings.
2 years college degree is more than enough to make those drawings & design.
Metallurgy Engineers know more about steel & heat treatment of steel & properties.
Never keep it generalized or end up like a rolling stone. The job should not drive your career path, your interest & specialized area should drive your career & the jobs u take .
As an example, a Physician knows he
or she will be fixing people & their diseases on day 1.
One who is learning to fly knows what he or she is going to do.
Focus is the most important thing in life.
Mechanical Engineering takes away that focus if u do not plan it before u enter the college.
It is true ME make good money if they are focused in a specialized field from the beginning.

I know it’s been 2 years but Im 27 thinking of doing engineering. I checked online and the engineering which gives you most freedom is mechanical. I’m interested in robots, so I just need to know if, Mechanical will give me that freedom. Thank you.

I been taking engineering courses for the passed two years but never really able to get into the program. But today I am taking my first step to finally be able to complete my degree. Zach, new subscriber here and I decided to go back and watch your early videos.
I am a semi-retired electrical engineer. Back in the day I worked at a series of Silicon Valley startups creating the next best thing in disk drives. It's a tight-knit community of competing companies where one might have the leading expert in actuator design (who also consults for all the other companies), another might have the leading expert in surface fluid mechanics (who also consults for all the other companies), etc. Anyway, disk drives require talented mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, some of whom can also fake it in manufacturability (startups have small teams). I started as an electronics technician (ASET in '75), saw the amazing talent of an EE who _really_ knew his stuff, then completed my BSEE in '89. Classes were easy to focus on because I knew the application and it was something I really wanted to know.

Ever since i was a child i always wanted to be an engineer but im too bad in mathematics but after all I still pursuit to college and have credits mostly minors, I dropped a lot of majors now working as a janitor and studying math by myself hopefully i can pass or enter this coming august to study mechanical engineering here in US...
5-6 years ago I posted as an undergrad of ME. that this video motivated me, because it showed me all the potential fields that I can work in and that drove me forwards.
Now, after all these years, I finished my degree (with a lot of sweat and tears) and even changed my profession to computer science.
The following text is off topic and intended for all the people that share the same feeling of failure and insecurity towards their life like I did:
During my university years and after my graduation, I worked in several fields of ME, like manufacturing, simulation and material modelling and even in the yearly cars inspection branch in ME (TÜV in Germany) and throughout the years, I couldn't find THE right field for me to work in. They were interesting and all, but nothing for me to stay in forever. After a long time of thinking about it and talking it through with my family, I changed my profession for computer science, because this became my passion (over the years) and I didn't want to work in a field I did not enjoy as much as CS.
Throughout all these years, my life was full of doubt and regret, because I this was my path to victory in a nutshell:
1. Do your B. Sc. in ME and you'll be happy
2. Do your M. Sc. in ME and you'll be happy
3. Get a job as Engineer or get a Phd in ME and you'll be happy
These were my life goals and now I can see that they are flawed, but back then I couldn't see that. And this made me miserable, because I felt that my life was going in a wrong direction, but I couldn't pinpoint it. I started to be ashamed for my ME degree, because it seemed like a failure to me, because I had it, but didn't want to work in this profession anymore.
At some point I chose to start my CS degree and I was worried all over again. Was it the right choice? Do I really have to do it all over again? What, if I'm too old for that now?
I felt, that I can't finish a simple thing and I kept going through the motions just to verify to myself that I am still going towards ANY goal, not sure what it was, but I could not stand still and reflect and ask big questions about the trajectory of my life, because I was afraid of what I would uncover.
It took a lot of time, a lot of talking to my partner and my family and a lot life experience to understand it all and work through it.
Now, I'm 29, and I don't see my degree in ME as badge of dishonor, but rather an accomplishment and I am working on my second degree (in CS). I'm lucky that I now also work part time in a software engineering company to hone my skills and learn as much as I can, because I really enjoy it.
I am way calmer now than I was 8 years ago, because I feel like I know where (approximately) I want to be in life. I am confident that I can achieve anything I want, if I set my mind on it. I'm not afraid anymore to start over again, if life makes me do.
This is a short summary of a lost duck that found its way back to a path it can follow for a while. If you feel/felt the same way, the same insecurity, I hope this helped you in any way, shape or form.
It took me a long time to realize that all choices I did and did not make, brought me here in the end to this very point. I cannot say, how my life will be in 10 years from now and that I will never be stuck again, but I am confident (and less anxious) that I will deal with whatever life throws at me.
If you have a passion for ME, please don't misunderstand my post as a rant towards ME. I loved it for years and enjoyed so much from it. And I have in the recent years found out, that my interest in renewable energies has grown and that I might pick up my studies or work as an engineer in the fields of renewable energy in the future (of course after my CS degree and some productive years as a software engineer :) )

@@fruitspunch I’m thinking of doing mechanical engineering but boy do I actually struggle in math, though ironically speaking I’ve been successful in completing my algebra and geometry classes and I take my academics very serious and I pay attention to my teachers a lot. You think I would be a good candidate for this degree, I can imagine the stress students under-go but I think I would be committed to finishing my work! I usually get 65% or 75% test scores. I wouldn’t deem myself stupid if I actually tried.
@@thesinister7676 Hi :) Well, this is a common theme I hear a lot of times. It's true that ME is a maths heavy subject, but I would say it's definitely doable. I wasn't good at maths either, but in university I suddenly got really interested in all maths subjects and this helped tremendously to learn all that stuff and pass my exams (and now maths-related subjects are among my favorites). Therefore, I bet you can do it and probably even excel in your degree, if you can motivate yourself to study :)

P.S. The stress is partly immense that's true and everyone who tells you otherwise is either super smart or lying. But again, it's doable and with some efficient study techniques it's easier than one might think. Thomas Frank made has a lot of great videos on study tips and tricks to excel in college! You might want to check them out, they certainly helped me out a lot :D
@@fruitspunch I’m considering in becoming a ME lately, It seems to me that the excuse I’m using is not being good at math and being terrible. If I practice how to do the works over and over again I would understand and excel. Other than that, All of your classes in ME is your professors basically are there for you to help when in need right??

I am so lost, i don't know what to choose for my degree and career job. Right now I am going to school and I chose mechanical engineering because I love cars and want to do something with them. Not sure what though. I thought if i choose mech. engineering that will help me to do something with cars but it looks to me it is just analyzing and drawing which i don't really enjoy because i am a hands on type of guy.. Is there any other degrees or something that helps me get in the field of cars or is this the right one. Again, not sure if mech engineering is something i should be taking because I love cars but im not good at designing things and I don't want to sit in a office since i am a hands on guy. Hopefully that makes sense.
