Dude - Lost both of parents at the same time (never get to see them again) - Summoned into a world where he has to start from sratch with no relatives, money or connections - Can barely use any magic, below average physical capabilities, yet had to fend for himself since day 1 - Got mistreated and killed twice because he smelled like shit - Got beat up and humiliated in front of the girls he loved while trying to protect her honor, twice - Desperately tried to protect the people he care about and failed 80% of the time - Not to mention the trauma he had to go through with every death (dying fucking sucks) And that’s only counting season 1.
fun fact when elsa killed him the second time at the slums it was a lot more brutal in the LN then what was shown in the anime his insides were on the floor and while he SLOWLY died trying to get his insides back inside him elsa watched (he was screaming the whole time)
to be fair a good portion of the crap he got into was his own decision making. literally got his ass kicked because he ran his mouth (would have been killed if julius didn't volunteer to duel him). as for elsa, again his own decision making to throw himself into those harsh situations. some of them granted are genuinely from things outside his control (rem not liking his smell and him being unable to explain it to her). the bright side is that his successes which are numerous are also due to his actions (hence if he does nothing then ALOT of people die). Overall there is a bit of respect for him doing things the really hard way but to say he is completely just a random guy with everything outside of his decision making is a bit disingenuous. Love the anime and want to get around to reading arc 5 and onward

they skipped how Al(the guy with a knight helmet) is actually an isekaied person like subaru that comes from japan, which its a major thing in the plot as he is the most mysterious character in the series that has screentime, he also has a similar ability to return by death another huge thing that was skipped which might be the main plot of the entire series is the shadow garden. This place is inside subaru and satella is found there, as he gets more witch factors like the sloth one from bettelgeuse, he also appears there. The things is that when subaru is in front of satella, all he can think is deep and passionate love for her, but he needs all the witch factors in order to have all the human senses in the shadow garden. What this imply is that the plot of re0 is getting all the witch factors in order to get in full contact with satella.
