OH snapparooni, I gotta look it up then. I don't know why, but the subscription has been acting wonky these past few months and I must've been missing out! Jess is one of my favorite Jamtrack players, and now there's more music!
Definitely a rockish side of Jess we haven't seen before. Love that she is expanding her music vocabulary. Proves she can appeal to jazz listeners, rock listeners, and before she is done probably any listener who likes quality music played by a master of the guitar. Excellent!
Not the kind of music I listen to, play or like, but I listen to *anything* Jess plays. Her audio performance is just phenomenal. She plays multiple styles exceptionally well, memorises very complex pieces, has an astonishing technique (that right hand!) is cool, calm and collected - all impossible without thorough preparation, shed loads of time, a deep, world-class talent and passion for music. She is an inspiration and an original - I'd travel far to hear her play live. Any other bass player fans of this exceptionally talented and hardworking musician? I wish she'd post some of her bass videos too! 👍
Cody Smith I guess that depends. If he bans Muslims from entering America, he's banned from my concerts. It was a joke based on what he said, I doubt I can legally ban him from my concerts and I have no means to try. In reality, I would welcome anyone, I hate anyone being excluded, even the ruler of the free world. He's still a person. I have a song in Urdu which is a Muslim language, I'll be bringing that one back for the US, it'll be a nice conversation starter. You just opened my mind, this is what it looks like inside. It's a mess! What's your opinion, Cody?
It was very surprising for me to see her playing this kind of music. Like it SO MUCH! Thank you for this awesome tune and keep up with the excellent work, Ms. Lewis!
Great playing. No matter what influence. Every generation of guitarists had role models. In 20 years some will surely be inspired by you. I'm a fan, keep it up.
Jess Lewis is beyond belief good. I kind of hate this style of music, and I wish she would stick to her jazz/fusion milieu, but here I have to make an exception. She's just incendiary on this track, melodically and technically. She just rips it up and the goose flesh up and down my spine never lets up.
If I am not mistaken, it's a 100% match with the solo by Jan Cyrka)) I believe it was featured in the March, 1998 edition of the Guitarist magazine :) I think I even have the issue CD somewhere. Strange...
Wow Jess, as a young guitarist myself, you truly are inspirational! You're so fluid with your techniques and every other aspect of playing the guitar! Very admirable.
The sole act of reproducing a song like this once you've finished recording it must be quite the challenge. I like the sound, reminds me somewhat of Bad Horsie by Steve Vai, the vibe is pretty similar. Nice tune and great playing, nothing to complain about :)
She is really great! It's always a good thing to explore new ways. Even if just this short exploration remains. But what I like the most in her (awesome!) playing, is her badass vibrato (downward motion/rhythm vibrato)! Wow! I wished, I could do that so evenly (and evil) like her. :) I have sort of a weakness there, which takes me obviously a little longer to execute it like I want it to be. Wouldn't that be an idea for a tutorial or so? Not only Guthrie's bending masterclass, but also things like a good vibrato etc.? Short tutorial-packages for short cryptonite-things? ;) Just an idea... ;) Cheers!
And it came to pass that one day the world lost the pick of destiny ... and so it began that in the lonely places of the world wizards of the new millenia forged their skills and craftsmenship into a new age of destiny where the impossible became tamed and the wild chaos of fate made musical ... into this world they marched bringing hope and inspiration where desperation had ruled too long and despair had grown tangled in the hearts of those seeking the new song in the unknown of life...stepping forward they wielded the sword of Dorian and the axe of Arpeggio sweeping all resistance to transformation aside and all was made good again ... thus the age of the six stringed mage was born unto the ever listening cosmos ... a galactic phenomenon of effulgence in imagination never before seen nor heard ... they say in the beginning was the word and to the end the grand silence ... but none speak of the between - we do and its sound is shredded in our very souls as the fingerprints of the Creator whole, semitone, rhythm, rhyme and melody made manifest in harmonic eargasms of aural joy! ... And the earth was made good again...in the distance...the scaley dragons of modality roar ... there are no words in their language for this magic...they know only that it is the very voice of their Epic spirit calling them home one last time!
Holy. Crap. Jess, haven't seen you in a couple of years, actually forgot about you, I confess. It appears you've put the time to good use. ;-) You are beyond amazing. Fierce is right.
I see, it's a Jan Cyrka tune and solo, and Jan is the founder of JTC. So it's all cool. But it's nice to know when the artist is playing their own music, and when they're covering someone else. It was the same story when "Eternal Blues" turned out to be a Guthrie cover. But great stuff -- keep it coming !
Hello Jess. This is bloody excellent, imho. At some stage, I imagine you will write some music, recruit a band, record an album and do a tour. I hope it is successful. In the meantime, please record your own versions of all the Aristocrats, Oz Noy and Kick the Cat recordings, and put them somewhere I can find them, and pay for them. Thanks.
Super clean execution with a lot of small tricks and gimmicks to make it shine. Still staying far away from pure technical wankery and retaining the groove and smooth flow. Awesome
never thought i would ever see her playing an ibanez let alone one with a trem...and then bam...trem technique for days.....she is so fucking amazing.. for me she is right up there on the shelf for me with guthrie govan, steve lukather and joe satriani...she is absolutely one of the cleanest players alive today...would love to see her and joel hokestra do some stuff...i digress
I'm diggin the tone out of the Ibanez but I honestly like the Gem she has a bit more. Steve Vai's signature model is one of the only artist branded guitars I have ever considered. If I could find the same guitar minus the carrying handle and with a different inlay pattern I would jump on it. I just prefer something unique to myself but the tone and the action of that guitar could make me look past the branding. I think I'll do some reserach and see how much it would be to either have one made for me to the same specs as Steve Vai's model with it's own look to it.
Wow. This is really impressive! Brilliant job, Jessie!
How many years has it been since we last heard anything from Jess Lewis. It's great to hear some notes being played by her hands again!!!
Its actually only been months :) Check our RUclips channel and you will find a few recent vids!

Just went and liked my own post, til I realise I'd written myself 3 yrs ago. Unliked ;-)
Yes, it's Jan Cyrka, "Spirit" album (1995)
Well done ! Well played!

Nice! This shows a whole new side of her playing. She is definitely one of the best guitarists out there.
Love that old school Vai vibe.
Great. It's a an intense snarl. Really reminds me of Jan Cyrka!
It is a Jan Cryka track. Its off his "Spirit" album if memory serves me right.
Not sure if I should feel clever that I knew it was him or dumb that I didn't realise it was a cover. :D

He may be banned from Rock am Ring, but I guess that would be no big loss these days...
It was very surprising for me to see her playing this kind of music. Like it SO MUCH! Thank you for this awesome tune and keep up with the excellent work, Ms. Lewis!
She Amazes me with All the styes she can play, and Really Well. Amazing Guitarist. Love her.
Great playing. No matter what influence. Every generation of guitarists had role models. In 20 years some will surely be inspired by you. I'm a fan, keep it up.

I hear a ton of Passion & Warfare! cool to see Jess stretching out and adding to her styles she's great
Very nice armming play.
I 'm a big fan of you, jess!
From japan.
Insane, dominating both worlds: fixed bridge & floating bridge, what a display of musicianship 😱
She's been a prodigy from the very beginning = ) , great as always Jess !

Jess improved so much! Great work Jess! Keep it rocking!
That was different! Awesome!
A really wonderful performance.
Awesome stuff, really great control on that vibrato, so tasty not just shred. Reminds me a lot of Yan Circa however that is pronounced.
une génie guitariste ,une facette de blues girl qu'on découvre ,une performance unique ,un style très personnel ,grande classe
That style change! Great!
Satriani & vai influences :) very nice sound on the heavy side too!
Damn this girl can play any style there is from soft jazz 2 distorted jazz fusion Rock unbelievable she's up there with some of the best
Beautiful Techniques!!
great tone! what a control!

Jess - You kill it in more genres than any player I've ever heard. Superhero stuff to at least this guitarist.
Verry great cover,bravo..... !
the satch is strong with this one
It's a sabre, not sure what model though.
I feel more like a "Zen Vai-be" in there :)
Not like Satch at all. Completely Vai
She is really great! It's always a good thing to explore new ways. Even if just this short exploration remains. I'd say it's more like Satch. Totally awesome!
that's a Jan Cyrka solo... not hers
It's hard to wobble the whammy and NOT sound like Vai! haha
Tone and phrasing wise, This is much closer to Vai...
