  • This is the first time anyone has played this golf course in 12 years. A golf course that inspired my dream of being a professional golfer, gave me my fondest memories, and saved my life 9 years after it closed: North Augusta Country Club. Located just miles from Magnolia Lane across the Savannah River in North Augusta, SC, this place is the most special place on earth to me.

Thankyou for taking the time to post this video. I have memories the same as yours for golf courses I played as a kid and a teenager in high-school. You're correct about the passion and love for the game and what golf has given me that changed me forever.

I played a lot of golf there over the years. It was a great place and everyone knew one another. I wish the city could somehow reopen it one day. With the River Club possibly going private in June it would be a great opportunity for the city of NA to have a true municipal golf course for everyone to enjoy and grow old with. Ben thank you for letting us relive the past.

Im glad you enjoyed the video! I completely agree, with the River going private, NA needs a quality muni now more than ever.

what a fantastic story, I have walked through an abandoned golf that sat next to my golf course, but nothing like this....... and that was in the late 70's ......... keep pushing Ben, and god bless you.

This gave me so many mixed emotions! I got nostalgia from a place I’ve never been, memories of courses I’ve seen go away, sad for this course still showing its promise yet still gone, and maybe even some hope that you could possibly see it alive one day again❤

I moved to the neighborhood across from the North Augusta County Club in 2007 just after the Club house burned down. I became a member after that until it closed and played when I could. My kids spent many days in the pool and I fished every pond they would let me. I wish they would bring it back to what it used to be. It was such a beautiful place to be back then.

What a video! Thank you so much for sharing. I also grew up playing on this course everyday and have similar memories with my daily foursome like the one that you mentioned. I would also be interested in helping to resurrect the course to its former glory. If that could be possible.

I absolutely love and respect how open you are being about your experiences and your feelings towards this golf course. I am so glad that you put this out into the world. I speak of my very first golf course in a similar manner. (Bluff Creek Golf Course) Only difference is I started playing golf after graduating high school and could only afford to play the 6 or 7 am reduced rates at BCGC. It made no difference. I fell in love hard. I can't imagine literally growing up with a golf course and the camaraderie that you had and having it be torn from you in an instant. Keep your head up man, you've made someone all the way up in Minnesota get in their feels about a golf course I've never even been to. I love the way you carry yourself and how well spoken and open you are, you got a subscriber for life. - Eli

Wow, this truly means so much to me, thank you for the kind words. I had so much fear that I would fall short of doing NACC justice and not portray what it truly meant to me. To hear that it resonated and connected with you is incredible, it's amazing how regardless of time or place this game can connect people so deeply.

I was so afraid they would turn this place into housing developments as well, but once the city obtained the property I gained some hope, yet to be determined what they do with it.

I worked at NACC from spring of 2008 until they laid off most all the maintenance staff. This would have been around the same time you were playing there. I was at Augusta Technical College earning a degree in golf course management at the time. The closing of this course changed my career path because I never worked in the golf industry ever again. I loved working on that course. It was indeed a beautiful place and we put pride into keeping it up even without the resources to do it right. Thank you for this video, it brought back so many memories of working and playing there. Also, Go Tigers!

Truly appreciate your passion for this course and recreating virtually. I can’t wait to play it again that way, but after also growing up on that course, I would love to see it come back to life and play that one all over again. Had my one and only hole in one there! Again, thank you for sharing this. Brought back tons of memories of NACC!

I can promise you did not play as much as we did growing up in the 80s and 90s parents would drop us off every day or ride with grandfather at 7 30am to the course. . We would play 54 to 72 holes, we gambled when it rained putting in the locker room to the air vents. Ms Kay worked in proshop and basically raised us out their. Jd was the cart guy and would let us pick up rang balls or take the carts underneath.

That brings back a lot of memories of playing that course with my brother! We were members of this course and my dad would drop us off on his way to work! We would play all day and eat in the old clubhouse and go back and play the rest of the day! We would be on the practice putting green late in the afternoon for my dad to come pick us up! So many great memories playing this course! I sure hope they bring it back!
